Hey, here's the hotfix fixing the biggest bugs from the last hotfix. There was one bug that I was unable to replicate, which was the issue with saving and loading that some people were having. Bug Fixes
- Fixed the memory leak, still working on optimizing
- Using the breeder from the breeding menu should work correctly now
- All monsters except elves should now have a consumable effect (still being balanced)
- Added a back to the scrollbar for better scrolling
- Dickwolf x Dickwolf now have the correct number of hands, and other small animation error fixes
Known Issues
- You may have trouble loading saves from earlier versions
- Can't sort by monster type in the Item menu yet
- There's no tutorial yet
- Pretty much all of the in-game stat and price values are placeholder; do not expect things to be remotely balanced just yet
- "I hate words" can cause strange issues (maybe you should try liking words more)
What's with all these updates, Hartista? If you keep making more progress than advertised and just generally going like a bomb*, we'll never get the trolls back and it will be so very quiet around here. Don't you miss being called a scammer by anonymous strangers who haven't the first idea about it? Good fun, but sadly it seems those times are past.

ReplyDeleteNice! Everything's really coming together now. I love the Dickwolf x M-elf animation. The town's looking much more refined. Can't say just how much I enjoy the "talking" animations for the NPCs. Great touch.
ReplyDeleteOf all the older stuff being touched up I hope there'll be an update for Dickwolf x Dickwolf. It's a nice start, but needs to ramp up and finish! Probably low on the priority list, but just saying. Don't want it to get overlooked. :p

ReplyDeleteIs there any chance we could get an in-game graphics option to change the background color used for the border areas on the sides of the game window when playing it in fullscreen mode? The default white color that gets used for the background is very hard on the eyes, and it would look a lot better with a black background on the sides instead. A simple toggle option to change from white <-> black or maybe even a list of basic colors (white, black, green, red, etc) would be a great addition.

DeleteAs another suggestion, it would be great if when you select the House and advance time to the next day that the game just discards ALL the queued messages from the previous day(s). At a certain point in the game when you have enough high-level traits on your monsters that they are able to breed very very quickly it creates an obnoxiously long backlog of messages that continue playing over and over and over again for the next several days or more. I think anyone playing this game who opts to advance to the next day is basically alright with not seeing whatever notification messages there were still left to be displayed, more or less.
ReplyDeleteAlso, toggle options to disable/enable specific types of status messages would also be good. For instance, being able to turn off the 'such and such monster was born' message would be nice, since I already know they were born based on the window that pops up prompting you to decide what to do with it. Basically the idea being to let the player decide on what notifications are relevant to them, instead of simply forcing ALL the notifications at them. >:|
Any chance we could get a full and frequently updated list of all currently available scenes on the side bar or something? It would eliminate the hassle of trying every single monster combination to see which pairs have scenes and which don't.

- why do catgirls have such WIDE legs (catgirl maid, catgirlXbreeder?)
- Why do catgirls even have the claws out? Claws are supposed to be retractable. A catgirl fingering another catgirl with those claws? YIKES. We see it's a catgirl aready, those huge claws could use some trimming
- Forbidding anonymous accounts was not a good move. Most people want to stay anonymous for a reason, and most won't bother making new account or accounts with their personal info. This reduces the people who respond to the most rabid fans (and people who don't care if they are associated with porn games)
- Buying monsters when you have all the pens in mission impossible. Shops should give you X of EACH monster per refresh or something.

ReplyDeleteSo for the summary: The art is great, but the game has become boring.
The core gameplay has been neglected for too long now. It's overly simplistic to the point that the monsters stats/grades/traits don't have a lot of impact and give no motivation to 'building a better beast'. H-Bomb is spending most of his time reimplementing the 'extras' of Breeding Season (5.3 or before); things that may not have any significance with the current system. The Guild for example, the function of the guild were made to help get around difficult/complicated client requests, of which there are none now; just levels.
The core needs to be fixed (i.e. the relationship with breeding and selling monsters). At the very least, you need a new tutorial. Something that explains how this system is supposed to work.
I don't like playing the bad guy here, but the game has become all fluff and no stuff. Looks without substance. Heck, you gave us codes so we could even look at all the animations and bypass the gameplay entirely... kinda self sabotage there. It terms of gameplay 5.3 is still superior.
Hbomb clearly agrees with you; that's why he said "Pretty much all of the in-game stat and price values are placeholder; do not expect things to be remotely balanced just yet". My impression is that he needs to keep ahead of the artists so they don't get blocked, which is why balancing and whatnot is taking longer.
DeleteHe's not 'ahead' of the artists at all. Given the amount of animation just with the current matchups; there should be plenty of work for the artists to get those 'placeholders' fixed. Placeholders that have been there since 5.4 while he re implements stuff that may not even been appropriate within this new system. That's at least 6 versions with little to no change to the system; that's just wasteful. He needs to stop adding stuff and get what's there working. Either that or get another coder; his backlog is ridiculous.

DeleteNo, he is behind the artists in amount of work done; or more accurately, the artists have done more meaningful work than he has. Yes, the game mechanics need to be fleshed out before adding additional events/shops/story. Events and such are more of a finishing touch than the main point of the game; events are like putting icing on a cake that hasn't been baked yet; it's just makes mess.
DeleteThe previous engine, while a bit unbalanced, still gave an obvious and meaningful change when you did something. With the current engine, monsters level up at a rate of every other mating regardless of the circumstances and there is no tie in to the importance of level, how it relates to stats, or if stats are even raising. You just need to screw until you reach the required level and then your done, with stats having no bearing or use. It's a level grind in the most rudimentary of ways as it doesn't feel like you accomplish anything when you level up.
On the artist side, there is plenty of work waiting (remaining combinations of mating, consumable retrieval, story characters). H-Bomb has more important tasks to do and can add art at his leisure. The game is not (or should not) be dependant on the art; if it is, he's doing something wrong.
DeleteI agree that I would prefer the game to come back into a playable-as-a-game state, but I think we can agree that Hbomb is not unaware that it isn't in that state. So, the substance of your criticism is that you think he should prioritize the rebalancing ahead of events and other more peripheral features. I agree insofar as that is possible, but I see several plausible reasons why it has not been so far. Regardless, the fact that Hbomb keeps listing it and the lack of a tutorial as "known issues" makes me think that he intends to get to it soon.
