Breeding Season Panel at Anime Central

Hey all, still working away at the next update (items and new save system). Progress hasn't been particularly exciting but it's moving forward and there'll be a release soon; there'll either be one big end-of-month update or two smaller back-to-back updates next week (one with the new gameplay features, one with a couple new events/animations).

I also wanted to announce, however, that I just got approved to run a Breeding Season Q&A panel at Anime Central! For those unfamiliar; ACen is a big anime con that takes place in Rosemont, IL each year (near Chicago). It'll be running from May 15th to May 17th this year. I'll be running a panel where I'll show off a bit of the game and then answer any questions people might have about it, and also any questions about the process of going about crowd-funding an indie game project, our team, etc. I'll have more details about the exact time and date of the panel once the schedule is finalized. It'll just be me there (S and the rest won't be able to make it, unfortunately), but I'm sure we'll have a good time.

Also, I will be absolutely floored if anyone is brave enough to show up in some Breeding Season cosplay; I will even be offering secret prizes to intrepid men and women who dress up as characters or monsters from the game. Of course, I will allow significant leeway to anyone who needs to alter their character's outfit a good deal to ensure that they don't get arrested or something :P.

Looking forward to seeing you guys there!

  5. Hey Hartista, remember you said you'd try and be better and talking to the community and give progress updates a few times a week? I really wish you'd actually start doing that, even if it's just: "hey, things are going well". Glad to hear the update is coming along though, keep it up, and congratz on the panel thingy

    1. With this game, do you honestly NOT think we're all some kind of weirdo? Let alone the ones that will take it a step further and cosplay? More power to them, honestly, and nothing wrong with weird. Creepy is where it gets messed up.

    2. Yeah, weirdos are fine; I only worry about douchebags ("hey, show us ur titz hurhur"/"fags r gross"/"wats with the fattiez?") and entitled dumbasses ("hey, I know a guy who owns a computer and he said it shouldn't take more than 35 minutes to write the game I want. I think you must be a scammer")

    3. Anon at 2:43 AM they should have some security guards at Anime Central so if some douchebag showed up and if they have the balls to do it started making a scene H-bomb can just have them taking way by security.

BS cosplay would be awesome. Do post pictures (if the cosplayers consent, ofc) if anyone does show up in costume.

  14. Just make sure there won't be too much guys asking questions about frequency and overall quality of updates. No offence, in general an idea to show up on some sort of -con full of perverts is great in many ways, and you really do have balls if you're ready to break the wall of your porn game to the real world, but it would be much, much nicer if the game itself would at least be at the stage of late beta-testing instead of bunch of triggers and 1/50 of all potential animations. Don't want to hurry you up, but I've got a strong feeling that there are some ways to enhance the speed of development of the version, appropriate even for SFW presentation.

  17. I don't know why people are complaining about the"lack" of updates, this game gets updated more often than any other game I know of that has a three man team.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I mean you see the exact same response with other games in a similar position, such as TiTS, where people are constantly angry and frustrated with a lack of updates and communication from the developer.

Oh wait actually no one seems to be mad at Fenoxo, actually people seem to have a whole lot less complaints in general when it comes to that game.

Clearly it had nothing to do with the last actual functioning version of this game being 3 months old or anything. No lets just blame the consumers because there are "only" three people working on this flash game.

Flash games take time people and expecting 3 people who are working on one as their full time job to actually release a meaningful update more than once a year is totally unreasonable.

      Delete
    2. You seem to have some really low expectations here... To play devils advocate, Flash is ways easier to code than you are getting at. 3 people working full-time hours can put in about 6000 man-hours a year (50 weeks after vacation * 5 days a week * 8 hours a day * 3 people), which can get quite a bit done. (not to mention there are 4 people working on this).

Not to say that it is SUPER easy work and they should be done already, but a good team can get out a meaningful update every few months, just as this team does.

      Delete
    3. I have to agree with the anon at 7:54 PM things with Fenoxo are just complicated to a point where I just lost interest in the whole thing.

  18. As exited i think people are to see you at anime central. Problem is i think discussing a game that is not anywhere near done is premature and a waste if time especialy when considering that patrons have been paying you a small fortune to focus on a game full time that is yet so show any real significant advance in the last few months alsonafter being silent for a whole week then just poping in to say theres going to be a small update and we doing this other thing now. Finish the game first then youll have actual bragging rites. I mean what are you going to show bugs broken klunky animations, seriously get rid of mitsies your previous animations were way more organic and his work on his own site is of better quality patrons do deserve better

  19. I'll try and make if I can to Anime Central H-bomb not sure if i'll cosplay or not.

  20. Well, first off, thanks for the progressupdate.

I hope saving, loading and the most important events to 'beat' and play the game will make it into the next update(s).
Sounds good for you to be approved for ACen, however I'm also a bit confused here.
What exactly will you have to show ?
How much time will be used on preparing for ACen ?
Won't you just drive the nails into your own coffin (or however that idiom works) with either an embarrassing presentation or neglecting the game over the ACen ?
Certainly that last line sounds a bit dramatic, but as you already often enough realized how much your lack of experience can mess up your work, I'm pretty sure this will be extreme stress on all ends.
So yeah, I hope for you and this game that you'll get over the consequences of the rewrite / recoding asap, so that you can focus on the benefits of said recoding that you were hoping for all the time.
And then you definitly need to think up some good lines for people asking about the progress, because despite all the trolls and haters that will not make it out from under their bridge to bring the hate to ACen, I'm pretty sure that there will be some (former) patrons that will be pointing out last years (still ongoing) desaster.

  23. V brave considering you have little to show at acen , you and your panel better be as gifted as houdini, because theres going to b some pd off patrons asking questions withoutthe sanity buffer the internet provides.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Actually, I think you'll find that people will be more or less nothing but personable and polite, in person. It's the internet itself that makes so many people feel like they have carte blanche to be aggressive, condescending douches, when if they were face to face with the target of their ire, they wouldn't behave nearly so poorly.

      Delete
    2. Yes they would use less expletives in their words of course but even perfectly polite questions could be hard to answer. Like "I have been dumping a ton of money into this project and for the past 4 months theres been nothing but excuses and delays, how fair do you think it is to use this event as another excuse for cashing in but delivering nothing?" Or "if you were working for a boss how pleased do you think he would be about your progress?" Or "do you think mitsies will ever animate anyting close to the original dickwolf harvesting animation?"For example, even from a developers perspective this is moving at a snail pace and the team is yet to meet a single target

    1. Man, you know, I've been holding out for H-Bomb and trying to be patient since I know he's gotta be busy and stressed but - I can't help but completely agree. Will all of february and early may be "sorry, no updates/slow updates, prepping for con lol!"? Will S-Purple take over updates again? Will a proper build be released before then?

I hope he does at least push for a functioning build sometime soon or better yet, before the con, especially since he'll likely be using the panel to try and lure in new patreons.

      Delete
  26. I actually think that by setting himself up for the con, Hbomb is giving himself the mother of all deadlines. But, I actually think we'll start to see pretty quick progress in the next month or two if he keeps chugging away. I say that based on my experience of how dev cycles realistically tend to go rather than because of any particular inside knowledge. If we don't start to see faster movement by the end of February, then maybe I'll start listening to the complainers, but for now I think Hbomb's biggest fault is promising more than was reasonable for a relatively inexperienced dev to promise, a classic mistake of someone who doesn't realize that twice as much code means more like 4-8x as much work, not 2x as much. Okay, and not checking in as often as he should, but I think he's working on that.

    ReplyDelete

    1. just like he stated in his post on 29th Dec, where he addressed someones post about leaving for not making things in the way the poster thought would be best. He admitted that he has problems with management and programming and promised to work on them.
On the other hand, HBomb had shit planing skills before patreon and it didnt change since then. One would think it is possible to predict his work process correctly after programming for so long now.
Logic says "things should get better", history says "things will slow down even more because HBomb doesnt learn".
      Lets hope for the best

      Delete
  27. its not that much money. he stated in a post last month that he gets not nearly as much money as the number on patreon.com makes you think. But you are right, the work progress is laughable at best for that payment each month.
But we are self to blame. Nobody ever mentioned a deadline or progress time when money got involved. There was only the promise of 2 updates a month and a update can be anything from a new patch to a few words like "still alive, till next month".
But he promised to work hard on the project and himself last month so lets see what comes up because I personally doubt it will be a new patch because of the tons of stuff he has to do for the con.

  28. What is funny is that you can download the latest version of this game for free if you just google it. But of course it's better to support lazy developers.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think you're unclear on the concept. The point of the Patreon is to support the devs, not to buy something that can be gotten for free elsewhere. The rewards are "thank you"s, not products purchased.

      Delete
    2. Then why doesn't he release the newest version for public use for all officially instead of giving it only to those who send him bucks, huh?
      Checkmate shiteaters.

      Delete
    3. @Anon 7:57
He releases on Patreon with whatever he has newest as both a way for him to create more patrons ("Hey, I want to see the new animations, here's a buck."), as well as give incentives for those who already do ("Why should I constantly and continously donate my money? Oh, because he gives patrons stuff early.").

It's your business as to whether or not you google the newest version and download it, or give the devs a dollar so they have the ability to continue working on it. There's no "checkmate shiteaters", there's only "How do I get ahold of this newest release."

      Delete
    4. It seems like some people have really distorted ideas about this stuff, as if getting something at the lowest possible price is somehow morally superior to giving money to the people who made the thing.

      Delete
    5. It's about 2 days (max) before the newest patreon release will be available for free from other source. Obviously people prefer to get it in 2 days than in 2 months, when HB will be kind enough to throw old trash for public...
Some time ago I was thinking about becoming a patron, but no system that demands credit card (even for paypal!!!) is thrustworthy to me.
Finaly, with this progress speed I'm suprised that there are still people who care to donate. Money to support devs in... that's the question: in what? After all excuses given recently we still don't get even weekly updates. Last updates are mostly about convention event. Let's say it: all the work about event is meant for making money (more popular game = more $$$) not for making progress in development.

      Delete
    6. I'm the OP. I've already paid over $40 for this game. I'm done. I supported as much as I am willing. I should be getting early updates just for my initial donation. This business model is for idiots.

there won't be an update till around early February. He stated what he worked on, what he planed and the beta for non-patreons needs a post, too, so unless shit happens he won't make one.
So I would predict the next update comes early next week. Maybe an art post from S-Purple, you never know when these pop up.

  30. I agree with Anon@ 7:58
I made in total this year, $17,538 gross income, working a job where I need to constantly put up with shit (Literally).
H-Bomb makes in a month more then I do in a year, but here's where I disagree with you, anon.
More power to him if people find the game so awesome he has people like me give him money- I do agree he needs to work towards the completion of the game, but for the $1 I donate, he's working as hard for it if not harder, then I expect. I don't worry about the gross sum of money he gets- I only worry about the $1 I know he gets from me.

  32. @ Anon 7:58AM and 8:14AM:
I think you both misunderstood what I wanted to say and/or I simply phrased it wrong. I meant that HBomb does not get 25k a month. It is less than 20k after patreon-cut, tax and paying the other team members. Of course it is still a huge amount of money

  38. It's literally right there at the top of the post. End of the month, meaning saturday at the latest.

Of course he already missed the 'two smaller back-to-back updates next week'-thing. We'll see if he makes it.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. What's irksome is not as much that he missed the back-to-back updates, but that he didn't even take 5 minutes to post "Hey, looks like it's a single update this month after all" ... He did promise that this year was supposed to be different.

      Delete
    2. If he does that people will just whine and complain about that instead.

    3. And you... believed him? People don´t change unless they absolutely have to. And so far, with more money coming in than ever, he´s been given no reason to change.

      Delete
    4. Didn't say that. I said it doesn't matter what he does, people will find other things to whine about.

    5. Sure, because that;s all it is, right? Whining? It couldn't possibly be legitimate criticism.

    6. So he said in the post that it will be either 2 back to back-updates OR one big update at the end of the month.
And you obviously have enough brain to realise that there will be no 2 back to back updates now.
Then why exactly does he need to TELL you that it's not gonna be 2 updates ? And HOW does that mean he MISSED any update whatsoever here ??

The only thing I'd say he should have left a post about would be a small summary of what they posted on patron about why the blog was taken down and what the plans for the blog are.

  39. Vanilly, I know you're busy with your LiveStream right now (very cool!) but since I know you do read these posts I thought I'd put in a request. A while back I'd mentioned that what really made the Kittengirl, Vealtaurus and Chickadee appealing in the original animations was the fact that their expressions and poses (particularly the idle poses) were "saucy" ... these creatures may have been smaller, but they were very much in charge of what they were up to. (The larger eyes were also cuter; I'm sorry to see all the female eyes getting smaller.) Just something I thought you might be able to help pull off with the newer designs too.
