Alright, I can't make you guys wait any more. This isn't nearly as finished as I'd like it to be, but I want to at least have the Christmas event available for you guys to enjoy. I'll be putting the update up in the Creations section of the Patreon page in about 20 minutes.
You can view the female version of the Christmas event by clicking on the map button. Traits are not working correctly yet. There will be a much more substantial update for you guys at the end of the month. I just wanted to do something for Christmas T-T.

10 hours ago, H-bomb's update explicitly stated "Tonight Patrons will be getting new traits as well as the new event system and our special Christmas event," (key word here is "Patrons") so you shouldn't have been expecting any non-Patron content tonight. Plus, H-Bomb released 5.4.2 to non-Patrons earlier, so you didn't get absolutely nothing.

And that every single promised delivery date he procrastinates, tries to do everything in the last 24 hours, delays it 1 or 2 days, then apologizes on not delivering (again.) I don't really care that much, for $1 you can do whatever the fuck you want, but it's really sad to me that people have given you $10 or even $100 a month and get nothing for it.

I study programming and graphical design, and I can say, the time they had since 5.3 was released, considering the money they get from patreon, was enough to add at least ~10-12 new animations and to improve the old ones. Also I have no idea why are they facelifting the old models, that were already great, instead of creating new things, it's an obvious waste of time, obvious time stalling.

DeleteReal games take years and years to make. I feel for you dealing with all the trolls and people desperate to get off, but keep at it and prove them wrong in the end. Like most smart people, I just find something else to occupy my time until the rewrite is finished.
ReplyDeleteReal games aren't made in flash, and do not require monthly payments in order to continue development on it. Real games make their funding with a finished product. Real games have hired alpha and beta testers, not people paying for it. Tell me how this is a real game.

Indie game devs don't work the same way as AAA developers, so you honestly shouldn't hold them to the same standards. They don't have a deal with a publisher who will pay them in advance for making a game. They pay out-of-pocket for development and staff. Beside all of that, you can't define a game based on how it's developed. That's not how things work. A game is a game, no matter how it was made and no matter what the budget was.

People are paying him to be a full time developer, this isn't a pipe dream or something. This guy is legitimately being paid to develop, and the output currently is horrible. DeleteA game is a game, but a certain quality and work load should reflect on what's being given to the developers. This would honestly be different if this was donation based, and he was also working a full-time job. But no, this is his full-time job. And he's been full of excuses for so long.
Right now what he needs is a change in work ethic and goals. Also if cannot handle the coding part himself, he need to relinquish some of his funds and hire a better coder. If this means he actually needs to get a proper job somewhere else, so be it.
Honestly, I wish people would actually vote with their wallet. Right now he does not deserve the money or confidence of his patreons. Hell, even a temporary freeze on his funds to show the harsh reality of this would be a good change for him. To tell the truth, I don't think Harista has a loyal fanbase people think he does. I'm pretty sure many people are doing $1 donations, or a small amount, and think that such a small amount doesn't matter, whether they're happy or not with current production. Some probably don't have any care, and are continuing to pay because they've already done it before. Or maybe he doesn have the loyality of the patreons, but that honestly should change.

Watch_Dogs, Assassin's Creed Unity and Ubisoft are prime examples of "real games". They were bad, and Ubisoft deserves to be punished for it. They have lost the faith of their fans, and they should realize that their decisions were horrible.

Ubisoft will be able to continue to get away with stupid decisions and broken games, as long as people keep funding them to do so. Harista, and any other developer as well. ReplyDeleteAlso, keep it up! Might be a little hard to keep a timeline and meet the seemingly ridiculous demands of an army of anons at the same time. But, seeing how far this had progressed since I started supporting, I think this year will be seeing some awesome updates from you. Gotta spend extra time working out the kinks before adding more material, right? Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

ReplyDeletehello i was just wondering if hbomb is planning on putting up a more stable version, i checked the old logs, but i didn't find a post about 5.4 becoming stable. in the update right after 5.4.2 release he said he was just a little bit away from re-stabilizing it.

We had three man teams churn out stuff better in quality than 5.3 including professional user specs and manuals within the span of 10 weeks for projects with a limited budget of $100-$400. This is pretty disappointing given the time and budget you're getting. Do yourself a favor and hire a competant project manager or sit down and make a non-changeable schedule you can actually stick to, because this has all the trademarks of a inefficient leader.
ReplyDeleteAnother tip would be to make updates EVERY DAY. Two days at most, on a RIGID schedule. You are seriously underestimating what updates can do. Since you seem to not understand from previous experience, here's how they help and why:
1. They help keep patrons/supporters/potential investors involved. Even just simple comments such as: Made some changes to function ABC so it's more compartmentalized or optimized subroutine XYZ to run faster/better already suffices. <>
2. They help keep track of changes you've made, as well as what you need to fix. Best thing is, bug list/some form of version control comes for free on top of keeping people in the loop.
3. They help keep you AND your team members on a schedule to get things done more quickly and efficiently because people see what's been done and can estimate a completion bar to a more accurate degree.
Heed this advice, as this is what I've done personally with much success, otherwise you'll be creating your own shitstorm for the future.
For <>, since it was parsed out: Failing to do so will make people think you're unresponsive. At which point, no degree of apologies will help.

DeleteIn the business world, no one's going to pay you if you"tried" to do something. If you make unwise promises and fail to keep them, you'll get shat on at best and fired/lose all investors/get sued at worst. It's like kids learning to draw. Sure they'll start out wobbly where encouragement helps. But at some point, you'll have to say, "Look, this is shit. Redo it now and make it better or there will be no reward." Otherwise, they can't improve if you keep babying them all the time.

I told you earlier, H, you should focus all your attention and resources on making a full-playable version of game as soon as possible, so we test something and actually play something even if it's not that much new content in it. Otherwise people will be VERY upset, especially patrons. You seem not understand the power of reputation and punctuality, but it's very important in fact. It's not me whining, it's quite unpleasand tendension that you're making deadlines and miss every one of them. You should either hit them or stop making them (for folks at least).
Hope you'll evaluate you priorities and work methods so that you would not have any regrets afterwards.

i agree with this dude. we(or at least i) dont give a shit about that little event that you made. i want to see more of the world. more monsters, more exploring, more goals, more characters, and more and more varied fucking. youre doing a good job, just not in the right area in my opinion. working two days to be raped by a box? thats great and all, but its not as fun as meeting kala in the forest or finding something on the beach, or even doing something more for the marchioness.

a. Give the trial releases 1,000,000 to play with until the game is playable.
I'd like to see the extra barn spaces/barn upgrades next.
Those sound pretty good it would be nice to get more upgrades as well btw did you guys get any new monsters yet for this update my memory is a bit foggy.

DeleteThis game needs balancing or realy well designed traits. Upgrading stats class - i mean letters next to stat - is a pain in ass. You barely can upgrade it by 1 grade, lets say from E to D. Offspring used to have the same stats as parents or sometimes even worse. It barely happens to offspring inherit stat with better letter. After 10 months game time i only managed to reach 1C 1D 4E as best result. Reaching 2C seems to be impossible at the moment. I guess maxed monster should be 6A or 6S grade so it's not going to happen without supporting traits or changing grade inherit mechanics.

The code is not solid, rewritten or not
I really wanna see this turn into a finished successful project some time in the future
but you need someone who is expert at their fields
and at this current point it's the code that is failing (self breed, frame loss at the "purchase monster" menu among the other things)
Someone with greater experience could proofread the code and make corrections if its not hardcoded and is designed to be read easy( it should be)
There is no shame in getting help
especially if you have the budget
the more good people you have the better

First of all, an introduction: I'm a patreon. I sat here quietly for the last 5 months, spending my money on this game and waiting.
ReplyDeleteWhen patreons got, after 1 1/2 month of silence, nothing but 3 little flash animations I said "well, at least it's something". At this point, there were already promises of a soon rewritten game.
After that, the process seemed to pick up pace. Big words about new content, improved code, easier and faster to implement new stuff and almost 40% of the rewrite done.... So I waited and paid the monthly subscription in the hopes of better days.
But this update did it. This update is the final drop that lets all of my frustration and disappointment overflow. That's it. I had enough. I'm out. After over 4 months of rewriting, I leave.
Yes, it is H-Bombs decision on which part of the game he lays his focus.
Yes, it is H-Bombs decision to determine how he spends his time and money.
Yes, it is H-Bombs decision to plan how to please every little fucker that thinks after paying 1$ or nothing he has the right to determine what is important or not.
But, after 4 months of rewriting and another deadline and another excuse and another promise, the game gets a holiday event instead of fixing things that are way overdue like saving & loading, introduction to new monster system, text for every npc, map, almost everything with consumables, town hall, events, flashing out the request system, traits and balancing overall.
Let us look back a few days. Friday, 19 Dec.: "I'm planning on a release complete with traits, events, and the new save system for Patrons". All he did was 1 tiny event that needed a hotfix after the release and the npc introduction for Roxie. I'm not sure if you can call it "complete trait system" when the trait names are "Test 9 1" or "Test 8 2".
It is not only this... let's call it setback, it is the whole series of big promises after which follow minor failures. Yes, every update brings new content but every update also leaves 2 new things that need a rework, a fleshing out, a redesign which comes late or complete balancing.
It's just so frustrating to pay for a game which has so much potential and every month you think to yourself "next month for sure" or "well, we all have a life to live. Shit happens" but by everything that gets my dick hard, we paid 25k this month for that update? Fuck, for 25k I can get my own programmers and flash animators and get this done in a quarter of the time. Only problem is, I don't have 25k. And don't come with "you don't know about programming". I know a shit load about programming because I did it for the last 6 years of my life. I pay my bills with it and I paid my monthly patreon with it and it finally reached a point where I can say "this is not worth my money".
Again, yes it is H-Bombs decision how to make this game. That includes team members, content, speed of production and everything else.
But I also have the option to say "fuck it, I'm out". My decision, my choice. Same goes for every patreon. I can't make you support or un-support H-Bomb. I can only state my opinion, see if you relate and hope that you change your decision. Hope that you see that this is not how things should be.
Maybe, one day, I will come back. But with this progression speed, I won't look back nor regret this decision. The only thing I regret now is that I ever believed and forgave every false promise while paying for it with my money.

it is not 4 months of rewriting, it is 5 months.
With this in mind, and the really long list of things that need to be done, I guess the rewrite will be done around early-May.

Seconding someone else's desire for different kinds of nipples (perky, inverted, elongated, erect?). Can't wait to see all the combos of animations. I'm a patron and downloaded the latest version; there is no save or option screen, and many animations seem like they're being overhauled, which is great. Starts out with a lot of gold so I can buy and breed, so it looks like this was a Christmas present to view the Christmas event and some sex scenes. You probably mentioned that somewhere and I didn't notice, so I was confused at first because it's definitely being worked on. Looks like someone plucked out all the derpy (sorry former artist) art, I'm guessing it's been copyrighted or something and you can't use it anymore. I love this game, it has potential and I can understand why so many people are being whiny entitled bitches about it.
