Hey all, extremely sorry with the couple of missed progress updates; I kept delaying the next one because I wanted to get the breeding menu screenshots in it and I kept being sidetracked by other tasks, I should've posted something. I have a JSFL script I've been working on that automates the process of dividing new animation pieces into skin and primary color layers and unfortunately I've been struggling with it lately. It has some big issues with some concave shapes and I've been trying to hammer it out so that we can get the new animations prepared in time for the update.
Here's the work-in-progress breeding menu, at least; it's obviously missing some bits still but it should be done in time for the update. The two different folders swap which is in front when you click on the one behind. There's still a lot for me to get done before the 15th, but I'm going to see how much I can power out by the end of the day.

ReplyDeleteThat UI looks brilliant. Honestly the old one felt cramped and made breeding specific pairs super annoying. I'm very glad you've spent a lot of time on the breeding menu. I feel like my patronage is being used well and will continue to support this team.

ReplyDeleteSay will there be a favorite mister or auto breed option? I think it would be nice to have a fast and easy way to select certain monsters incase you have a lot in a list.
Also the ability to sell monsters as soon as they're born would be nice.

Because that's exactly why H-bomb said it, instead of just posting a 'lol it's not done yet' post on the 15th.
DeleteIn a worst case scenario, tomorrow I can at least put up as much of the game as is working currently. There may be many crucial elements that won't be working yet, so you'll be able to poke around with it, see the animations, play with the menus, etc, but there won't be much in the way of gameplay possible.
DeleteI'm not sure how much I'll be able to complete by tomorrow yet; it really depends on how difficult it will be to implement the remaining systems.
If it's not really playable yet I guess there's no point in reminding you to clean out and fix the bug report thread. But please do it anyway after you post the update.

Hard world but we are all grown ups (theoretically) and should be able to understand that a work in progress is still a work in progress even when it takes more time than at first expected.

DeleteI can't wait for the new version either, mostly because the dialogue bug has popped up in my current saved game and now EVERY dialogue locks up the game. It's basically unplayable. I hope the new version fixes at least part of this problem.

It's one coder promising too much and getting the job extremely staggered vs. Large companies with teams of coders, designers, and creative directors; that promises too much, fails to deliver, denies fault when criticism hits, tries to make up without admitting fault, etc.

ReplyDeletehopefully H-bomb reads this. whether or not he makes the deadline, i seriously hope he takes a few days OFF direct progress for the game to work on getting the team together to assist him. two people is not enough to do this, and hes likely going to burn himself out trying to do it. the more stress you got on this crap, the more mistakes you make. the more mistakes, the longer it takes.
ReplyDeleteas i posted before, i think the 4th hire should be another coder to assist with the load. i mean if nothing else he could just set them to debugging the crap and do the setup work himself.
You need 2 side bars like in total commander or windows explorer that would make the game much smoother. Now you need to search for the one u want to breed, than you need to search for the other and if you forgot the name or misclick u need to start over.
