I still want to have a fully playable build (as far as breeding, time/energy and requests) ready by the 30th but some major features (saving, events, many traits, preferences) may not be available yet. I'm going to keep on putting up builds as soon as new features become implemented and keeping you guys informed of progress as it continues.

Alpha Build 5.4.1 (demo)
Alright, the AnimationViewer continues to be a butt. What I'm going to do is put up the build I have currently that just adds offspring (minus some bits of UI like being shown newborn monsters correctly) so that I have something more for patrons to play around with. I'm going to see if I can do an additional build tomorrow with the animations working and maybe some more of the UI if I can.

DeleteIMHO the new builds, even if unfinished, look more like a game to me than the old ones did. Maybe thats because you got rid of all the old stuff(Animations, Pictures, etc.) and remade the whole gameplay with more in mind, not just throwing new things at a wonky build which then dont function correctly

this was funny first or second time but now it's just pathetic.
That whole idea to make new UI and system for literally everything while you are alone was WORST IDEA ever. You should just stick to old system and do updates with animations/events and make new system WHEN you hire someone that can help/do your job.
...oh wait no you wouldn't be even able to do updates with new animations since most of animators you have in your pseudo "team" are working on their own projects for Christmas/New Year/etc...

The only two people who actually get their shit done with transparency and commitment are Swegabe and Fenoxo. All the other just take the money and delay, run off, disappear, you name it.
Sure we get bits of news and plans and images here and there but at this point you have to wonder if that stuff will even get into the game before 2020.

DeleteHate to say it but Patrons are the reason why everything goes downhill. Why? Because they get money for nothing. When this was a private donation project, they had to work and THEN they got money. That's how it should be.
Sure, 1 Dollar isn't much. I agree. But think about the big picture. You encourage them to be lazy. Make them work for the money again.
Yeah these people complaining are pretty silly. It was a clunky game to begin with, but if you liked it then okay why not pay ten bucks or something to express your appreciation and encourage further development. But paying that much EVERY MONTH is insane, for a game at this level of quality. There are far worse games and far better games, and this one is at the "good enough to buy if it costs $1 or less" level. It could get better but it probably won't, except through expansion of content. Good on the programmer for getting lucky, but I hope he doesn't take this project or its fans very seriously. He just stumbled into a "dummies give you their money" trap and sprung it and a lot of money rained on him; at no point did anyone do a good job at understanding anything or communicating to anyone (except S-Purple, who clearly understands how to draw nice-looking sprites). The game is bland, its UI is clunky, the audience has bad taste, and the audience also has no understanding of how long software development takes. It's just fools blundering into each other and spilling money. What is happening to this guy is little more than a lottery payoff and any conversation about it that doesn't recognize that fact is probably not going to get anywhere useful.

This is a widely known fact that shows up constantly throughout the software development industry. But Patreon donors are generally not knowledgable about software development and it is of course understandable that they wouldn't be familiar with this.)

Truth is, all of us can do with our money whatever we please. We could have a beer, bubble gum, make a donation to church or veteran fund, throw it in beggar's cup or slip in stripper's thong.

Some of us chose to donate a few bucks to this project. It's a good will on our part, and it is said on Patreon like a damn mantra.
There is even a way for you to get your money back, if you think you are being swindled.
If you think it is CRAP, then do not touch CRAP. Simple, I think, but apparently not for everyone.
We are all adults here. Our money is our business. Cut your whining, and get on with your lives.
if you use to buy a drink, you'd expect to get server a proper drink. One you can actually drink. In drinking condition. And not 3 moths later after you where charged 3 times from your former money (not yours anymore, neither the drink).

DeleteAtm the people who should be annoyed the most are the patreons, Im guessing your not one please correct me if that isnt the case. We pay a lil bit to get the game updates earlier, generally we are meant to be two updates ahead however public release has caught up. I don't count 5.4 as an update as its not finished, so really you shouldn't be angry as your on the same page as we patreons are, except we get an incomplete version which lacks a few features.

When he's delaying updates several times, giving updates that are unplayable or already warning about next update being incomplete then patreons will just piss on this project. They will stop their support, wait for game to be done, eventualy they will download full game for free from "alternative" source.

ReplyDeleteI've been reading up on how to code in AS3 Flash and learning how to create and modify .swf animations in Flash professional CS5. I'm confident by next month I can start making simple test creations and save enough money to commission a few sprites each month. When early alpha gameplay is finished (lets say a year) I will join the kickstarter/patron community and start producing for a living. Talk about a great income and way to make your own business! I'm enlightened by the community and happy to see competition is scarce!

ReplyDeleteThe last update was a screen shot of the new UI. The new one badly and barely implements one of many missing gameplay elements. How on earth are people supposed to "play around" with it? At this point I'd settle for shoehorning the new animations into the un-rebuilt game engine while H-Bomb works out the bugs in the expanded system. Is that a possibility?

I don't want to be rude and what we were given prior to this travesty was nice but this is the final straw. It's become abundantly clear that you didn't really have anything ready for the halloween release, and the fact that you dick us around and tell us we'll have something playable when we get this instead is a little pathetic. Until now I was very impressed with the changes that you'd given us because there was always something to see. A lot of people are saying that you just bit off more than you could chew, but you're making consistent and real money off of this now. The fact that it's slowing down is a bad indicator for the future. It's sad, anticipating something constantly and being handed little to nothing despite what we were promised. The weekly updates are nice and all, but we're still not really getting the full picture. Might be time for another quick apology, because we deserve one. Usually I consider it highly annoying when people get all indignant about something like this, but it's happened thrice and what we were given just isn't a big enough change from last time.
