I'll be uploading a first look at 5.4 for patrons in a few minutes here. This build is still very restricted in what it can do; for the most part it's just a demo of the new breeding menu, but I wanted to put it up immediately just so you guys can have something after months of patient waiting. Sex animations are not displaying correctly yet nor can offspring be produced, but I'm close to having both those functions working. I will be uploading an additional build next week that should have more of the game working, and by the end of the month it should be fully playable. I really appreciate your guys' patience in this and I extremely value your support. You will not be disappointed by the final build; it's just a matter of getting it to work. I've ended up in a situation where I'm rewriting pretty much every last line of code in the game; it has been a trying process but in the end the result will be worth it. Anyone can decompile the .swf and examine my progress, and I absolutely encourage you to do so and offer suggestions if you have them.
Along with this update I'll be uploading .swfs of the new animations that will be available as soon as this new build has progressed far enough into the Creations section of our Patreon. I think you guys will really like them.
Also, I'm continuing to look through the applications for the PM position, and we're about to move forward on that. I apologize to anyone who has been waiting to hear back from us while I've been focused on trying to get this build into working order.

ReplyDeleteAs for the people critiquing backers and H-bomb's progress. It's getting really tired already, the point has been made.
I'm in the side that thinks Patrons are throwing a lot of money on very thin promises, but, even I think that the constant complaining and straight hating is getting tiresome.
I don't think the posts that keep everyone reminding just how much H-Bomb is on the Bahamas swimming in money and not working on the game will convince hardcore patrons, they already made they decision and probably only extreme circumstances will change their minds, insulting them won't do better either. Those posts aren't accomplishing much and like I said the point has already been made, anyone on the fence I'm sure has been convinced on either side.
That being said, I would love to see more constructive criticism and solid gameplay suggestions.
Such is the ways of Alpha builds, no? Better to get the new foundation set early, so that the later builds are easier. Looking forward to the new stuff, and wishing well toward swifter, (and more importantly, less stressful) progress.

Well, the new build isn't playable at all (I don't think it should really be called 5.4, actually..), but I'm glad to see our monsters with portraits that actually represent what they look like. Looks like pregnancy chance will go up every time the same monsters fuck, so that's different and possibly a good thing. They also gain experience from breeding. Not sure where that's heading except higher pregnancy chance at the moment. It's going to be very different.

I personally would have preferred to wait the additional week for a more playable demo but the trolls would have had a field day so I do understand you having to rush this out undressed as it were. I think I probably speak for quite a few when I ask if you could take the time to explain the "experience" system/menus more fully in a blog post ... Basically I'm wondering what the "E" represents and if there are other letters (A~E) It looks interesting but it's not obvious. I'm sure it would make more sense if the breeding system was working.

DeleteI gotta say though, there is something magical about finding out the inner workings of the game mechanics to make breeding empires, I too was clueless for a long time until I really got to play the game.
The best trick, at least in this patch 5.3 and older ones is to save before breeding. Load until you get pregnancies in the "first" try.
You can start with few monsters and make a lot like that. This also upgrades the monster stat caps by a lot, just be careful not to inbreed too much or you get a bad trait.
Try to fulfill the silver and gold requests little by little. You can also save before delivering one, so you get a trait you want and also check the next request so it isn't too crazy or asks for a monster type/stat you can't get easily.
There are new things with donating and stuff, but I haven't checked those much.
Finally the strongest thing in the game is getting the breeder pregnant by selecting the same monster twice in the breeding menu. You can get Human intellect, which makes the breeder child learn traits just by breeding with others.
There are other ways to make money, if you have a monster with high stat caps and can max them, then its consumable will sell for a lot of money.
I wish the upcoming releases make it so you can only save when you go to sleep to stop the save/load madness, with careful balancing to breeding chances and other stuff it would make for a better experience. Instead of clicking menu, load, do action, menu, load, do action, over and over and over.
You really can't progress through the first payment month? It's pretty easy, given the amount of handholding (the marchion(ess)'s elf juice alone sets you up for any stat requirements for the first lot of sales, anyway). All you gotta do is pick your first breeding pair reasonably carefully and stock up on holstaurus milk and use the pink pearl from the beach event.

Ahhh Come on, Let the poor newbie's discover the "Oversight/Exploit" and believe they're the next Bill Gates. It's supposed to be a fun little game. You really don't need to fix every little exploit, just the ones that mess up game play.
DeleteBesides, while the save trick does more or less eliminate less than perfect matings, you waste so much time getting the perfect offspring that you could have bread and sold several mediocre ones and purchased a harpy pen ... ETC. while you were hitting load thirty times.
I believe it is a problem, even if you try to set your own goals and lines you wont cross it ends up being too enticing.
DeleteYou can set a personal limit of saving just once a week, or once a day, or just that one time you really want to get that monster/trait. But in the end there will always be that feeling that you could have accomplished a lot more in-game using that "exploit".
I keep saying, "ok I promised myself just 1 save per week, but I really want this elf to breed before the week ends" and then I end up going back to multi loading.
And all in all, what we are saying is that it's just poor gameplay. Spending 10 minutes loading and reloading ad infinitum gets super tiring, you get what you wanted, and then it's to the next couple of monsters. You can easily have 90% of your play time wasted at looking at the load menu.
Maybe you and others have super self control and only save occasionally, or even just once per session. But to me it is a hard thing to do, specially if I'm looking to build any kind of cool breeding empire, or even just get that desired monster I want to pamper with the looks/traits I want.
So the demo looks pretty nice, but one thing I found hard to read/look at was the Stamina stat (the yellow was super bright and made it difficult to read the white lettering as well as being really harsh on the eyes.)

Yeah, I like the female zombie, but I'm super disappointed in all the male monster designs so far. If ever female monster is super hot, mostly human and has great proportions than why are 90% of male monsters ugly, anthro and super huge/buff/beastly? :( At the moment all we have are NPCs for the humanoid males (elfboys aren't counted since they're basically female anyway)

BS monsters literally give birth within seconds. Hell, the pregnancy for the player only lasts a few days. Adding periods isn't exactly going to make the game seem 'realistic'.
Monsters in breeding season arent born via normal reproductive means, theyre summoned full grown from the void. H-Bomb delivered what he promised on the 15th which gets the train back on the track, but we still need to accelerate and get to the orginal destination in a reasonable timeframe. DeleteJust curios, is anybody else peeved by "strong family resemblance"? I really don't like how it makes all my monsters look the same. Even when the parents are two entirely different species (changeling) their offspring will still look like all my other monsters of its type. It even seems to override "are you sure...", no matter what came first. You can avoid it if you don't want that I guess, but once it pops up and spreads in my stock like a disease thanks to human intellect it's a real buzzkill for me.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion "strong family resemblance" should be removed, since offspring usually seems to inherit the looks of its parents anyway so it doesn't really add much to the game other than an arbitrary barrier for customer contracts.
Is there anyone who likes this trait because they like a certain look for their monsters? I could do with a bit more diversity and surprise in my breeding without having to carefully sort out the unfortunate bearers of this trait...
I agree, this trait quickly changes your roster to a clone army under certain circumstances. Maybe it could be tweaked to only work for the next offspring and then disappear entirely from the pool? Or you could turn it into a single-use potion. After all, you only really want that effect to happen if you want to preserve a certain feature.

Same goes for changeling, mutagenic, cruel - i don't like it so i keep breeding monsters away from these traits. If you get a look you like FamRes will keep it for you in future.
ReplyDeleteWhen you want to change something buy a fresh monster with FamRes and breed it several times with current (already own) FamRes monster. Because of fresh appearance from new monster, the offspring will incur a bit modified look - every attempt will look a little bit different - and you keep offspring looking closer to what you prefer. This is how you adjust how FamRes monster is looking.

ReplyDeleteIf it's any consolation, this new build isn't playable. No animations, no births. It's little more than a screenshot of the new UI. It may have been released "on time," but I'm not sure what it accomplishes apart from preventing one section of the troll attack.

Im quite serious when I say im considering going back to school and learning animation and programming. Talk about a dream job! No way I could make this amount of money a month without a ridiculous amount of work. Early retirement too!
DeleteI understand the feelings of those who wish there was more progress. But their frustration must truly be coming from the fact that they enjoy and appreciate the game that has been produced thus far; they want more of it! And so do I.

I have to say that as a patron, while I do appreciate the update, this 5.4 build is completely less playable than 5.3. It only seems to be exactly what you said it was for. A demo of the breeding UI but no information at all otherwise. Can't really call it a demo, more like 'here's a layout for how the breeding menu will look like' because without knowing what any of these things do there's no way to actually play with and work with said menu.
