Status Update and Future Gameplay Revisions

Status Update:

Hey all! Incredibly sorry to keep you guys in so much suspense for so long! I apologize for really failing on the communication front this month; I'll make sure that I don't have another dry spell on status updates like this again. The rewrite has just been dominating all of my attention, unfortunately, and when I make updates I tend to try to make them huge and informative affairs like this one which takes up a lot of time. From now on I'm going to try to change my habits so that I'm putting up more small work-progress updates a couple times a week; they won't be very large or exciting, but I do really want to do more to just let you guys know I'm still alive and working like S does on his tumblr.

That said, you are absolutely getting the rewrite this month, along with another public update! It will be up late on Friday the 31st, as a Halloween treat for you all!

Tomorrow night I should be able to give you a much better idea of what all features you'll be able to enjoy once I put it up, as I'm still in the process of integrating all the new systems together and I'm not positive what will work yet. Fair warning; it will have a lot of rough edges, placeholder UI, and many aspects will not be fully implemented yet or not implemented at all. I've been putting together some pretty radical changes to the game this month and it will take a while before they're all fully fleshed out.

On the upside, this will definitely be the last time I have to do this sort of redesign/rewrite! There may still be some significant gameplay changes to the game in the future, particularly as far as balance is concerned, but this will be much closer to what the final version of BS will look like at least on a basic level. I'm going to try to ensure from here on out that you will definitely get at least two playable updates a month, and if I can manage it I would like to have them become even more frequent moving forward, though that'll depend on a lot of factors.

As a final note before I get into the meat of our planned gameplay changes; this update will have very little in the way of new art or animations and is very much focused on gameplay and code changes, however the next update will be on November 15th and contain a backlog of sex animations that we've been putting together; at least 5 new sex animations with variations, and then hopefully more animations later in the month as well. I also want to get around to finally implementing at least the first of the long-anticipated cum-shot animations.

Future Breeding Season Gameplay Revisions:

With the new build there are very major changes to the way pretty much every system in the game works. This is a big departure from previous designs I had considered, and totally different from the previous build. Stats will no longer change independently from one another; instead, raising your monster’s stats will be much more like leveling up in an RPG. Don’t worry; the way client requests work will also be changed appropriately to reflect this. Mind you, much of what is written here WILL NOT be implemented yet come Friday, but this is just to give you a very good idea of where I'm trying to take things.

Levels:
Monsters will level up once they've gained enough XP through breeding and being fed consumables. The amount of XP required to level up will be based on the monster’s level, and it will rise considerably as they grow in level.

Growth Modifiers:
Every time your monster levels up they'll have a random chance to have each of their stats raised. This random chance will be based on their growth modifiers for each stat (represented by a letter rank) that the monster is born with. Perfect S rank growth modifiers will be incredibly hard to breed into your monsters.

There will be no individual caps on level (every monster caps out at level 100), however it’ll be considerably more worthwhile to level up monsters with better growth modifiers as they'll have better stats at max level and gain stats faster, and only a monster with all perfect growth modifiers will ever be able to max out every stat (this will be a huge feat; maxing every stat will be only for the hardcore grinders and not necessary to complete the storyline).

Breeding/Harvesting:
The amount of XP a monster will get from a breeding attempt will be directly based on the level and STR stat of the monster they’re having sex with as well as their own CHA. In addition, repeatedly breeding the same two monsters together will slightly increase the pregnancy chance every time, meaning that after enough breeding attempts you're always guaranteed a baby.

Harvesting will be significantly different to how it is now. Monsters will generate a certain number of “hearts” each day that represent how many times that monster can breed in one day (the number of hearts they generate each day will increase with STA). If a monster has any unused hearts at the end of the day they get “stored up”. So, for instance, if I have a dickwolf who can breed twice each day and I don't breed him for four days in a row he'll have eight hearts stored up. When you go to harvest a monster you'll get a consumable from them for every heart they have stored up, so you'll only have to harvest your monsters periodically instead of every day to still get all their consumables out of them.

However, every monster has a maximum amount of hearts they can store up before they just can’t take it anymore (this number is based on their WIL). If you let them go too long without breeding or harvesting they'll misbehave and take matters into their own hands (so to speak), causing them to lose all their stored up consumables as well as reducing their happiness.

Consumables:
Instead of having every consumable be unique and having consumable quality directly vary with a monster’s stats, there will be only one measure of consumable quality and 10 possible quality levels (though, they can still have unique effects due to monster traits). When harvesting, the consumables produced will have a random quality, with a higher chance of higher quality consumables if the monster has high stats. This means that consumables with the same quality/effects will be stackable and therefore much easier to manage. Each monster type will still have its own special consumable effect as well.

Consumables will directly increase a monster’s XP based on their quality. It will also be possible to feed your monsters consumables directly from the breeding menu. I'm also considering adding the ability to upgrade your pens with a “trough” that will let you place a stack of consumables that your monster will automatically eat each day.

Happiness:
Happiness will determine how much a monster likes you, and the likelihood of either good or bad events occurring with that monster when you breed them or enter their pen. A monster will lose happiness if they aren't harvested before they store up too many hearts, or occasionally if you fail a random event involving them, however generally happiness will be much easier to raise than it is to lose so you won't constantly need to worry about it. A monster’s happiness will go up slowly every time they're bred or harvested, but it can be raised much faster by catering to their preferences, or succeeding in random events involving them.

Preferences:
Monsters may have preferences for particular other monster types, particular consumables, individual monsters or even the breeder themselves. A monster’s preferences can change over time and may develop or grow stronger with repeated exposure, or may change based on choices you make during events involving them. The stronger their preference, the more their happiness is raised when you indulge it. Preferences will also be significantly affected by traits. A player will be able to safely ignore a monster's preferences with few to no ill effects, but indulging a monster's preferences will provide bonuses and benefits.

Personality Traits:
Personality traits will be special kinds of traits that influence how a monster acts in events and can affect their preferences and relationships with other monsters. Unlike most other traits personality traits may also change over time. Personality traits won’t be implemented for a while, though depending on how much of an issue it will be to implement, we're looking at having unique visual features and idle animations for monsters with different personality traits.

Relationships:
Monsters that you keep around long enough will begin to form relationships with each other and the breeder. Two monsters with opposing personalities may become rivals, or if a monster has a strong preference for another one and you breed their crush with someone else they may start to get jealous, or, of course, two monsters might fall in love, etc. These relationships will be reflected in special events and you'll have some influence over them and they may lead to special storylines, however they can also be safely ignored without negatively affecting your gameplay. It will be a very long time until this entire system is properly implemented, but once it is I hope that it will go a long way towards giving the monsters on your ranch a lot more life and character.

Energy:
Rather than feeding/breeding/etc taking up time in order to limit the actions you can take in a day, they'll instead cost energy, which is a resource you generate every day. This change is for a few reasons; primarily to make it simpler and more intuitive to keep track of how many various actions you can fit into the day and do the math in your head. Also, you'll be able to roll over some of the energy you don’t spend one day into the next day (up to a maximum). There will also eventually be ways to extend your energy. A monster's DEX stat will reduce the amount of energy that actions involving that monster take up, just like it did with time.

Mostly, though, this change is because I just thought it felt wrong that a super high DEX monster can apparently only last a couple of minutes in bed :P.

Stat Effects
(the math on these is far from final, currently stats have a linear progression but may be changed to suffer diminishing returns; this'll require testing)

STA: Increases the number of “hearts” a monster generates each day, but does it as an average over time. For instance, if a monster has 25 STA, it would generate "2.5" hearts a day on average, which means that every other day it will alternate between generating 2 hearts and 3 hearts.

STR: Directly determines the amount of XP this monster’s partners gain when it breeds with them. Monster’s STR x Monster’s Level x Partner’s CHA = Partner’s XP gain.

DEX: Reduces the energy cost of actions involving the monster. 1 DEX = 1% less energy. Also gives breeding a chance to “crit” and gain twice as much XP, 1 DEX = 0.5% crit chance.

CHA: Increases the amount of XP that the monster receives from breeding multiplicatively. Also increases the amount of happiness that other monsters gain from breeding with it. 1 CHA = 1% more happiness on average.

WIL: Every point of WIL increases the number of hearts the monster can store for harvesting by 1. It also confers a 1% per WIL chance to resist negative events like sickness and happiness loss.

FER: Raising this stat directly increases the rate of producing offspring for this monster as well as how much that rate increases with repeated breeding between the same two monsters. 1 FER = 0.5% higher birthrate and +0.5% rate increase with successive breeding.

Traits:
Traits will work pretty much like before. However, leveling up stacking traits will become more difficult: instead of the two monsters having their stacks added together for that trait in their offspring, there will instead be a random chance to have a child with an additional stack based on how many stacks each parent has. If both parents have the same number of stacks and they both give that trait to the child, that chance will be 100%. For instance: If dad has 5 stacks and mom has 5 stacks, and the child inherits from both, the child will have a 100% chance to have 6 stacks. However, if the dad has 5 stacks and the mom has 4 stacks, the child will only have a 50% chance to have 6 stacks, and a 50% chance to have 5 stacks.

Also, there will be more gameplay-oriented traits that will only have an effect on certain monster types: this is in order to further differentiate the monster types.

Client Requests:

The client request system will be overhauled into something very different. Instead of just three faceless clients representing a random set of requirements you will actually get a list of both randomly generated and storyline generated requests that are given by actual NPCs in the game (like Roxie, Lily, The Marquis, etc). You'll be able to get more than three requests, but requests will still be sorted into bronze, silver, and gold based on difficulty and how rewarding they are (storyline quests will be platinum). More difficult requests will have a time limit associated with them, and will go away if you don't complete them within a certain number of days. Completing these requests for the NPCs will increase your affection with them; and in the future will unlock further storyline and romantic options.

Because of the changes to how stats work, stat requests will be much less common. Early in the game, requests will mostly just focus on monster type and level. Later on, there will be more stat and trait requests. I'm also thinking about including appearance requests eventually.

Additionally, you'll occasionally get consumable requests that will ask for a certain number of consumables of a certain quality. These will pay much better than selling them to Kay normally.

Alright, that's a ton of text, I apologize if I forgot anything big or left out any details. I'm still not sure exactly how many of these changes will make it into Friday's update, but the changes to how leveling, stats, and harvesting work will definitely be in. At any rate, I need to get back to that :P.

  4. You could have consumables act like stat items in pokemon, where they are a second stat pool added to the first. This stat pool is capped in some way, and my have diffrent caps based on monster type. Like Dickwolves can get +100 extra strength from items and catgirls only get +50. Also better quality items giving more to a stat so you need fewer. This can also be use in an items fed limit so there is no cap but only 100 items can be given making high quality items far more worthwhile.

    2. Are you referring to the E.V System? But please don't implement the I.V system. It's tricky enough to breed monsters as is, let alone have to worry about values that you can't see influencing stats :P

  5. Oh man I thought you OD'd on something.
And also, can someone create a table of all the monsters and the currently available sex anims and update it every time new ones are added? Maybe either a graph or an excel file on google drive?

  6. Just when I thought you're taking a lot of time for that rewriting I saw this update and WOW!!! You're taking that time for a good reason,
Just one thought though: Will you also consider affections to certain traits and aversions as a balancing antipole? They could work the same way but negative and will fade to change to some aversion else if you breed it often enough. Also there might be some sadistic breeder out there that likes to provoce their monsters.

    1. I decided not to include aversions in order to allow the whole preferences system to be something you can safely ignore if you don't care about the bonuses extra happiness brings. That way managing happiness doesn't end up adding too much for the breeder to worry about.

If you DO want to piss off your monsters, though, just refusing to breed or harvest them for a long time will definitely do the job. They'll get lonely when not played with :P.

  7. I think all of this is great. I really like the trough idea, the more upgrades for the pens the better in my opinion. I do have a could of concerns though: Firstly is small numbers. It bothers me when things move by fractions. It may just be a perception thing, but still. Even if it's just moving a decimal and leaving the system as is I think it would be better, however I think a system that moves in 5's and 10's is ideal. Secondly, is I am weary about anything that happens randomly. I'm unsure about this one, some randomness in a game, I feel, is essential, but I think that instead of being perfectly random having it lean one way is better. But again I'm unsure about that one I'll get back to you once I've played it and felt it out. Those I feel are really tiny things that don't really matter much. Overall I'm very excited for the direction the game is going

If you'd been watching S-Purp's tumblr you'd being seeing all the good stuff coming down the pipeline. You -might- change your tune. Plus I got to talk to the guy at length and play a few games with him before things got really heavy this last month. I'm supporting him because he strikes me as a good guy and wouldn't "walk off with my money".

Then again, that -was- around the 10k mark. LOL!

I guess i'm just saying, be nice. These aren't "miniscule" changes he's making. But they aren't the ones you wanted, obviously. It's your money. Do whatcha want. But no need to make it sound like he isn't doing -anything-, cause I know better.

  9. Sounds interesting! I'll admit gameplay appeals to me much less than storyline and art/animations, but I'm glad to hear about what work is being done :) It sounds like it'll make the game 'last' a bit longer though, which would be nice.

I assume after the bulk of this is done, you'll have much more time/attention will be allocated to animations and other visual content, so I'm looking forward to that, whenever it happens.
Although inevitably there will be waves of people who prefer the old system and whine about revoking patreons, but then again, that happens with literally every change and update to the game :P

Oh! One question. When you implement the save system (which I assume would be a prerequisite) would you perchance think of adding a 'gallery'? :) So players can revisit one-off animations without restarting their game every time (marchioness scene, maybe even unlocking breeding animations to view after they've happened in game)
Oh - or some sort of achievement system? I'm a total completionist and mini goals and such ('breed 10 futa catgirls' or whatever) would be nice.

    1. I like the idea of an achievement system. Maybe if you get them all then you can access that gallery, where you can see all the animations in the game?

  10. Two questions, hope H-Bomb is still around.

    1. When I started playing way back, the thing that caught my eye the most were harvesting animations. When S-Purple joined I dreamed of how they would look with these new artistic skills.
You mentioned that giving SEX animations for every pairing would become ludicrous later on when new monster types were created, rising exponentially the amount that would have to be done. But harvesting doesn't have this problem, when a new monster type is created just 1 (maybe 2 for the male breeder?) animation is needed.
On what level of priority are the harvesting animations according to you? From what S-Purple has shown, we are getting straight sex pairing with breeder for all the current existing monster types at least, but we havent seen anything concerning harvesting. (never, really low, in the super future, soonish on the list, litterally after sex animations, really high)

    2. Small Lore question. Monsters are bred to keep them at bay, they are all about sex, but what if someone wants to have a cat-girl girlfriend? Or be really affectionate with a holstsaurus but not in a sexual way. Do monsters respond in to human emotions, in this case love, in other ways than sex? In the breeding season world, would people get bad looks for treating a harpy or whateverm like a wife?. I remember reading that monsters are intelligent but I to what extent? Would that play a role in the question I asked?.

  11. Thanks for the update, sounds like a very big overhaul, now that we've got some more details on the plans. I hope you can manage to achieve a more regular contact schedule, like you mention ,even if it's just to say that you're working on the same thing you were working on when you spoke last time; it's the act of regularly communicating that people appreciate, and the silence kills.

In other news... looking forward to being 'critical' bred by my dickwolves....

    1. Yeah I wonder how that works.
In the breeding season world, females are super adapted at taking huge penises, which should be super pleasurable, then having sex with a dickwolf is even a stronger experience due to the natural aphrodisiac they carry. So sex would be ultra intense, and THEN this dickwolf is so dexterous at sex that the already incredible intense experience gets enhanced to the extreme, in which he manages to hit the exact spots at the right times and at a moment that seems magic (Like the breeder for some reason just was super into it, more than usual, and the dickwolf caught on that and then got lucky with the crit)
I imagine the female breeder would be KO for the rest of the day after that.

    2. Hey, chill. Just a suggestion. No project is flawless. You want standardized, predictable results the first time every time with no wait? Go eat at Mc Donalds. Would cost ya about the same after the second trip.
      *sigh*
He's always been up front with us, each post always detailed what the current build is experiencing and the coming schedule was looking like, even the "month and a half or even 2 months of fucking waiting".

So, no offense, but if you could do a better job, then do it. All the impatient patrons here would likely jump aboard because they are chomping at the bit for a "more porn, faster" game (And I might just find myself supporting two projects). When really we should be expecting something with a bit more quality and replay-ability. Just with the text of this update alone, it makes it sound like no two playthroughs will be the same. Maximizing the benefit from each monster will take slightly more deliberate care, but even THAT's optional. And to top it off, if you follow S-purple's tumblr you can get a good idea of what's being made as he posts a fair chunk of the assets he creates there. (there's your easy fix, it was certainly mine.)

If you're reading this and aren't sure you wanna stick around, just chill till the mid-Nov update. Won't cost you anything, and you should know pretty darn quick after the backlog of animation is released whether it's worth your next donation in December.

      I've said my peace.
      Happy Halloween, fellow breeders.

    3. Hey Mr. Chill. Learn how to spell 'piece'.
You say 'no offense, but if you could do a better job, then do it.' By your logic, if anyone has any issue with anything that they can't do better themselves, they should just shut up and pretend it's fine. Not how it works.
No one's expecting perfection, but H-Bomb seems to be full of bullshit in many of our opinions. We have the right to criticize - especially those of us who have/still are contributing to him.

  15. Good job on the update news ( I personally preferred the old art style, this new one looks like a kids educational game but maybe it'll grow on me ).

Looking at all of the negative comments you received on the last post it might be worth while you having a 'Community Manager' to handle update posts and answer questions from your Patrons so you can concentrate more on the design side. You could then do a bi-monthly post for the updates.

    1. I wholeheartedly agree with this idea. Maybe you could ask someone from the blog, or the patreon page. It'll just be something done for free, but, like you can pay them in the form of small bonuses. Like, if they were a $1 patreon then give them access to the debug codes, or if they were a blog-person give them early access to the game.

Of course, this'll probably sound like a bad idea in retrospect (the reward scheme, not the idea of a community manager) but I'm just throwing ideas around.

And his excuses and apologies can most certainly fuck right off.
He has not kept his word.
There is no game update - just a status update.
I see a lot of work invested in this game, and a lot of money. I just want Hartista to be responsible and keep his word. Frankly, I think his talents are better used in game design than project management. Do you understand that I'm not personally attacking anyone, or the game itself, I'm just deeply concerned.
H-bomb doesn't need you to defend him. He can defend himself, if he wants to. And he was never under attack, not by me, anyway.
I believe we're on the same side here, we're just approaching the same goal from two different directions. You strike me as optomistic, while I'm clearly pessimistic. But I'm not trying to stop the game, I'm just trying to get H-Bomb to see that we're concerned about him always apologizing and delaying but rarely updating game content. And if money wasn't involved I wouldn't have said a single thing.
But yeah, let's not argue. We both have better things to do I'm sure.

Will the Feral trait appear at all (placeholders?) in this rewrite?
Will you also be implementing the larger pallet of available faces, hair styles, and colors hinted at in past posts?
and will the existing debug codes still function? I'm assuming they won't, and there will be new codes generated

Did you even read all of the previous posts' comments? You could learn a lot from it.

Oh yeah, and get a community manager. Seriously.

    2. Oh, I see. You're suggesting that he meant a STATUS update, not a GAME update.
I got confused. I assumed in two months of saying he'd do it that there'd actually be a game update in there somewhere.
      My mistake.

    3. Chill out bro... Yes..you are true in some kind. But for me it is the 1st encounter of "Silence Octo Month". Will see if next time whether it is still occurring or not. I will just give another chance. Frankly speaking I am from $1 increased to $ 10 and right now already reduced to $1 due to have a good prospect to lost of hope. With due respect, this is what I felt inside. Interacting with Fans certainly will a crucial part too as you cant neglect your fans. Not saying we pay a lot, but what makes until today $ 23,000 is the power of accumulation. Building it is hard, but crushing it just like ABC.

    4. I just don't get it.
He doesn't update the game, he ignores everyone for entire Octobers, despite the fact that he happily takes their money the whole time.
He's in the wrong job - a guy with his talents should work in politics.

    5. I'ma repeat what I said above.

Hey, chill. Just a suggestion, I ain't tellin' you what to do. No project is flawless. You want standardized, predictable results the first time every time with no wait? Go eat at Mc Donalds. Would cost ya about the same after the second trip.
      *sigh*
He's always been up front with us, each post always detailed what the current build is experiencing and the coming schedule was looking like, even the part where he "ignores us for long periods while we support him" was always addressed BEFORE the down time. Anytime there was a problem, he mentioned it and did his best to work around. Rather than cobble together a poorly coded mess that would wobble forward another 100 feet before being too heavy to even carry itself.

And yeah. "Community Manager" is probably a good idea. Someone to help answer the simple questions that many newcomers ask, etc.

      I've said my peace.
      Happy Halloween, fellow breeders.

    6. Stop telling me to chill, leave me out of this. We're not discussing my emotional state - we're talking about what Hartista says vs. what he actually does.
He doesn't update the content of the game when he says he will. Repeatedly. Yet he's accepting donations with the understanding that he will update the game. Can you understand my concern? Do you see the discrepancy? All is not right here. And he doesn't have a solid track record, either. He's ran off, and then came crawling back apologizing before.
You sound intelligent. I'm surprised you're not more skeptical.
My last point is that he still hasn't updated the game. He ignores criticism. Hartista = good developer, bad manager.
      I'm dissatisfied and concerned. Period.

I do appreciate that you're trying to be civil. Points come across best that way. But please leave McDonalds, programming (I am a veteran programmer), and other extrania out of this.

    10. I understand your disappointment, but you are misunderstanding one thing: you presume that he is being irresponsible. That's a common misunderstanding about people with ADD, and it's easy to see why. The people without neurological conditions can't imagine what it is like to have one, and don't understand the magnitude and amount of problems that they cause. Because the neurological condition is often not clearly apparent, it is easy to underestimate it's influence on a person's life.

I am not saying that people with ADD should be able to just slack off and do whatever they want and get away with it because they have a condition. I am saying that, as ADD myself, I am 100 % sure that he is not lazy, slacking or irresponsible (people with ADD rarely are, btw), but he is probably more diligent than most of the rest of the world, because in addition to the work load he has, he has to fight his ADD every day, and I know personally what it's like. Maybe the development is slow in your opinion, but he is doing his best. I respect him that despite his ADD, he is trying hard and does a magnificent job considering his neurological condition. You just can't demand him to keep up like "normal" people without neurological conditions, because he is not. You can demand him work as hard as others, and I'm convinced that he does, probably even harder.

The problem with him seems the same that is common with ADD people: They try to manage like people without neurological conditions, and end up making a promises they can't keep. They think: "this time I will try even harder", and when they notice that trying harder don't work (of course it don't because the problem never were in the trying part), they get stressed, and that devitalizes them even more. I have been doing it myself, and am trying to change my ways, so I won't disappoint people and myself all over again. But it is kind of hard when all your live you have been brainwashed to think that you should manage like others, and you are just lazy and irreponsible.

Community manager is a good idea. And I really think that he shouldn't try to make status updates more often, because it clearly stresses him even more and divides his attention from the process of actually making a game, which should be priority number 1.

      Cheers.

    11. ADD or no, he is still being quite irresponsible.
If he's aware that he has the problem, and it hampers his work, it is his responsibility to compensate and work around it.
My wife has ADD. I know how exactly how it is, actually. And I have Asperger's syndrome, myself. I don't make excuses. I have to try 2,000% harder than 'normal' people to do simple things, like checking the mail for example. But that's life, and I found ways to deal with it. The mail gets checked regularly.
I don't know how long he's had a problem, how severe it is, or anything. I don't know anything whatsoever about the guy. I'm just concerned about people giving money in good faith, and the guy not delivering on his promises.
Frankly, I've only played the actual game twice, it's not my kind of thing. I don't care about it in of itself. But if he says there'll be new content and there isn't, and he consistantly does that while making gobs of money, I feel bad for those who still contribute. If contributing makes them happy then by all means, no problems.

tl;dr: I don't like how H-Bomb is continuously breaking his promises while making a lot of money and it makes me upset, because he has a lot of talent and a strong following and he's only going to ruin it by making people mistrustful of him. I don't get my ideas across very well, but this seems to be the best I can manage.

I appreciate your sensitive and courteous comment here. A lot of people don't like seeing 'dissent', so I get attacked. I feel that agreeing to disagree is ok. Plus, I can tell you know what you're talking about.

      Cheers :)

      Delete
    12. Now I understand your comments better. I understand your concerns. If I would have donated a large amount of money to the project, I would be concerned that I will never get what I paid for, because I have no illusions about management of ADD.

I respect your attitude concerning your AS, and I agree that he is responsible to compensate and work around the problems. He just may not know how to do it. If he's like me and many people I know, he keeps hitting his head on the wall, because he has no means to work around the problems. Medication is of course important because it makes many things possible, but in the end the management of the 'condition' is about changing a behavioral patterns, planning everyday life, and finding alternative ways to think and do things. It is a slow process, and hard especially if you have no 'tools' for it, because you are basically lacking those things that are needed in the process. What tools are needed, I guess it depends strongly on a person. It may just be that he doesn't have necessary tools available. I don't know where he lives, but here in Finland if you manage to get a diagnosis (which is a miracle by itself) it is unbelievable difficult to get medication, coaching or other necessary help. Often people find themselves fighting a desperate battle by themselves. Some will manage by themselves, and can have really good live without any additional help, but for some that is impossible.

Or then he is just irresponsible, like you said. We have no really way of knowing it. In worst case he might be cheating everyone, though I don't believe that. In any case 'understandable' doesn't make a thing 'right'.

A lot of people don't certainly like seeing 'dissent', I have learned that a hard way. There is also other reason that they might attack you. You write a reasoned and mostly polite text, but there are parts that have a bit aggressive tone, and that might set people up. Even I got bit aggravated by those parts at first, but thought that you aren't just troll, you have a point, and seem to care about this subject, so you deserve a proper answer. And you didn't seem to be much aware that your tone might be reason why you get attached. I recognize myself on that. I have angered a lot of people without knowing why, because I have problems of controlling my tone and expression (and because I don't know all those social rules one is expected to know), but I have made a progress.

I have noticed that emotion often makes it harder to get your point across, and harder for you to get the point that others are trying to send, and thus it disrupts communication. I have taken a policy, that if I can't answer calmly, I don't answer at all, because otherwise I am just hurting my case.

There is Asperger's syndrome in my family, and I suspect that I might have it as well. :)

I hope I am not too lecturing or rambling here. It is not my purpose, it's just my style. I hope you don't mind.

    13. Is it weird that I'm enjoying this conversation? Anyway, good point about Asperger's. I had no idea I was coming off as aggressive. There's many social things I am literally blind to. Funny how it comes across even in my text (although I strongly suspect I'm the exact same way in person).
Anyway, I suppose we can agree that H-Bomb could try a little harder, but that it isn't easy for him. I want to throw in something about how much money he's making, but A) that really is none of my business, in truth, and B) being smacked with a wad of cash can capsize your entire world view. So, I'll just leave it to that I should be more patient, and maybe he could take some steps to reinforce the quality and timeliness of the product these good people are funding.
Hartista's probably read some of my posts, he probably gets the message. So, I'll step back. For now. And if I do feel it necessary to criticize in the future, I will re-check what I say before I say it, so that I don't piss people off with my aggressiveness. I want to be clearly understood, not ignored as a troll.

    15. This is new to me. Thanks. Autism Spectral Disorder looks to be a pretty vague term. From what I understand, it covers a lot of stuff. My theory is that the physical part of my brain meant to recognize certain facial expressions, social mannerisms, and 'between the lines' meanings instead handles literary things. I could read at the college level when I was 8 years old, but I was never comfortable touching people - even hugging my own mother. Guys would make well-intentioned playful digs on me, and I'd completely go Chernobyl on them. So... yeah, I'm going to go try to learn more about this while DSM V thing.
      Thank you kindly, anon :)

    16. I don't think it is weird for you to enjoy this, I do enjoy too.

I am many ways socially blind as well, but I find it very helpful that others tell me where I go wrong. Maybe I won't ever understand those things intuitively, like 'normal' people do, but I can memorize the rules. The problem is that unless people tell me where I go wrong, I can't learn, and they don't usually tell because they assume that I know already, and it doesn't help that those rules are often complicated and lack the logic I could understand.
You are clearly intelligent and nice guy, I can see that. And I agree with you. I hope that he at least puts the money in good use and gets help.

I really enjoyed our conversation, and would like to ramble on about Asperger and other things, but now I got to go sleep (it's 0:30 AM here, I have stayed up to late, naughty me). I am glad that I have been helpful. That makes me smile. It's nice to go to sleep knowing that you've had positive effect on someone.

    21. I don't have time to write a proper response to this discussion as I'm still chest deep in getting this update working, but I have a massive amount I feel I need to say about this project, my problems with setting and meeting deadlines, coping with ADD and neuropsychiatric disorders, the lessons and realities I've been faced with over the course of this project, and the ways I'm working to prevent these problems in the future and ensure that I can make good on all of my promises. After this update is done I'm going to set aside some time to write a very long, very thorough reply to this discussion because I honestly feel I owe it to all of you.

I also have to say I'm honestly moved by the level of respect and decency that you guys have shown each other here. I'm aware that may seem melodramatic, but it's very rare that you see a vehement argument over a complex contentious issue between two totally anonymous strangers in the comments section of a porn game blog that ends in mutual understanding and kindness, and I am frankly proud that it happened on my blog.

I also want to be clear that I am reading and internalizing as much of your criticism and support that I can, and that I'm extremely serious about doing whatever I need to in order to improve both myself and the game and to repay all of the incredibly generous support that you've given me.

  23. It lives! Like the overview of the new system but have some questions/comments/thoughts

    1) Exp boost by mate's CHA..... why? Crit chance with DEX is also a lean in that direction. Seems like a fall back to having multiple things doing the same thing. A modifier of sell price makes more sense than that.

    2) Do like the increase fertility for screwing all day long; although if you keep Fertile, I can see a problem with infinite spawning. Maybe a counter balance of if the female gives birth, she's done for the day (using any remaining hearts she has that day) to recover from childbirth/egg lay. Could even add a new trait - Litter: allowing multiple births a day (mechanic save hearts that would be lost up to the litter rating so she can keep going).

    3) Sounds like the clients are improving a lot; it'll be nice to see the other NPCs more than once ;p. As for the clients, you are not going to give a bronze, silver, and/or gold right at the get go are you? You character starts as an unknown in the community and you need to prove your worth to get better jobs; what jobs that are available to you should be based on your reputation.

    4) Trait stacking; do like. Worried about Human Intelligence though; currently with the bug you can basically improve it by screwing a smarter monster. Who ever heard of 'screwing your brains IN'? ;p I'd suggest the HI be the max level you can learn a new trait at (so if HI is 2 and trying to learn Fertile 7; can only learn upto Fertile 2). Maybe at learn chance modifier based on HI and the trait attempting to copy (more developed traits being easier to study)

    Now for comments/suggestions/ideas:

    1) Monsters inheirting physical traits outside for their breedline. Examples: Other breeds born from Harpie's may grow feathers or wings, Catgirls with Demon horns, etc. Something besides the color scheme for Strong Family Resemblance to carry over. Could even be stuff like skinny/fat to not only get the breed we want, but how it looks as well.

    2) Last but not least, you need to decide on an end product here. I'm pretty sure you do not want to be doing just this one game for the rest of your life (the whole system change is an indicator of such). Determine how far you want to push it and set some end goals (not times, just decide what finishes the game and do those). Extra stuff can always be added as patches later, but you are suffering from a severe case of feature creep. Putting in every little suggestion is NOT going to make a better game or a finished one.

2a) Forget the battle system (at least for this game); you game has never been designed for it and you'd essentially be making a whole new game for just that. You can always make a battle game latter that can use Breeding Season data to make a combatant. It just doesn't fit your system or setting at all, it'd be better as it's own thing.

2b) Stop adding new monsters. You have mentioned before that you had never intended to make animations for every combo and that was fine before you got financial backing. Now you are committed to making a product, you cannot pass it off as 'don't feel like it' or 'never intended to,' it's time to be more professional about it. Finish the monsters you have and then finish the game. New monsters can always be added later as a patch.

This last bit probably isn't going to be a popular opinion, but you are bogged down in non-essential details and not looking at the big picture. This game will NEVER be finished at this rate. Just because you are getting good ideas, doesn't make them appropriate for the current project. With this being your first 'work', you should keep in simple and save the other stuff for future projects down the road.

    1. The crit increase seems to be much too high in any case, without even playing. Increasing Dex results in less energy to breed, so you can do it more often, then you get more and more crits as you level up, which will increase your DEX even more, so you can breed even more and crit even more, which will lead to leveling up even more ... you know what I mean. It's in all likeliness too powerful like this.

      Delete
    2. Couldn't agree more with points 2a and 2b, adding additional monsters is the next level of stupid if the existing ones completely lack animations which for me and many others is whats most interesting about the game.

    3. I'm with IronVein in terms of suggestsion 2/2a/2b ... not sure 1 is practical from an animation standpoint. But defining "done enough" is extremely important. 6. 1) I'd love to do something like this, but as always it's a matter of limited resources: Anything requiring more art/animations will take away from the effort to add additional art/animations elsewhere. At the very least, I very much intend to add more small trait-based visual variations as we go along, as small visual variations that aren't significant enough to affect animations don't require nearly as much work while they can still help spice the game up with more variety. Of course, I'll continue to keep hiring more art and animation help as I can to expand how much visual content we can pack in the game.

      2) Believe me, we're definitely aware of the need to have a set scope. We have a tentative feature list for both the beta and 1.0 release and a game plan for reaching them, though I'm holding off on sharing it until it's more concrete. It was very hard to have a defined plan for the first few months because our budget kept growing and we had no idea where it'd stop, or if it might suddenly drop out from under us, but now that we've stabilized a good bit we're in a much better space to set realistic goals and plan effectively. I'll be honest and say that many features I've said I want to include in the game exist in the nebulous space after 1.0 release and will depend on how long we can afford to sustain the project, but I've tried to be clear that any of that stuff is in the murky future unlike other features we've come to a final decision on and are absolutely going to be part of the game before 1.0.

2a) The Battle System has always been one of those "in the nebulous space after 1.0" features. If we do ever get around to it, it will be essentially an "expansion pack" and be included a long time from now.

      Delete
    7. 2b) I prefer to strike a balance. For the near future there will be two more monsters (after fluffdragons) and then we'll be focusing entirely on filling out animations/events/etc for a while. That doesn't mean that will be the limit to the number of monsters in the game, we will continue to add more monsters later instead of filling out all the sex animations.

To be frank I actually disagree with the notion that the game would be better if every possible sex pairing has an animation, and I think I should explain why because it is as much a creative decision as it is based on our resources; when all is said and done everything we add to the game means there were other things we could have added to the game but didn't. When we make the decision between adding a new monster and adding additional sex scenes for existing monsters we're balancing how much enjoyment players will derive from more sex scenes involving existing monsters versus new sex scenes with new monsters. I strongly believe that more variety is more compelling, and I'd rather sacrifice having a complete set of animations for every pairing than a large amount of monster variety. I would rather have only 5 sex scenes involving a holstaurus as well as 5 sex scenes involving 2 new monster types than 15 sex scenes involving holstauruses. I actually think one of the worst things I did for myself in the development of this game is set up the expectation in players early on that every pairing would have an animation, because there's no reason why that should necessarily be the case.

If we actually filled out every last sex scene for every monster we would end up finding very significant diminishing returns in player enjoyment, because you reach a point at which it is just more of the same: if you've seen 20 other animations in which these two monster types have sex with other monster types, will you really care if you don't get to see the one animation in which the two of them have sex with each other? This really begins to matter when the alternative is to get to see an entirely new monster type having sex instead. I personally think variety is much more compelling than completeness.

That said; I want to reiterate that it is absolutely a balance: if we had 100 different monster types each with one sex scene each you would rarely ever even get to see a sex scene because the vast majority of pairings in the game wouldn't have them. I think there is a sweet spot that we want to reach in which not every pairing has a sex animation, but you will very regularly be seeing them. I'm also very aware that right now the balance needs to be tipped very much in the "more sex scenes" rather than "more monsters" direction. Like I said before, after the next 3 monsters are added to the game, we're going to be focusing exclusively on sex scenes for a long time.

Overall, I absolutely understand your concern for making sure that we avoid scope creep, because it's a deadly killer and the most dangerous trap for ambitious projects such as ours to fall into. Until recently it was very hard for us to judge exactly where our limits would end up, but now we're in a much better position to make these sorts of solid plans and it is absolutely our focus to do so. Our brainstorming and waters-testing period is mostly over and the shape of the final game is starting to form.

    8. Damn, I had written a huge reply to the first half of your post as well, but it seems to have been eaten by the blog. I'll see if I can recover it.

      Delete
    9. I guess I'll concede the point (don't agree, but will let it go). It does require SOME kind of animation however (kinda jarring sometimes when it doesn't.) Maybe a leadup sequence that doesn't need specific sprites like:

      1) Mons face either from either side of the pen,
      2) Eyes bulge and ogle each other (depending on happiness/lust)
      3) Charge each other and comical 'fighting in smokescreen' animation
      4) If they have a specific animation, show it at smoke clear.

That way at least something is happening every time (unless animation is turned off). You don't need to animate any of the first three steps (just a standard eye google and then have the still monsters move toward each other). Just some boiler-plate animation.

However, wouldn't it be just as difficult (if not more so) to make your 100+ monsters, each unique in some way. Making monsters with complementary powers is cheating (Harpie/Stallion consumables are not original ideas)

Mechanically, the only REAL differences between monsters were:

      1) Gender (Futa nerfs that)
      2) Unique Trait (Can be breed into any monster eventually, nerfed)
      3) Consumable Power (Traits to give consumables all the powers- this one in particular is very bad IMO)

Essentially that is nothing different between these monsters in the game toward the end AND THAT makes the game stale after a while. Need a specific reason to keep a Stallion, Harpie, etc down the road other than harvesting traits (client requirements are not enough; especially with Changeling).

      Delete
    10. The lack of meaningful differences between monster types is definitely one of the things I want to address. I have a few ideas floating around, but the one I'm focusing on first is having a number of stackable traits that are only active when they're present in the correct monster type and are otherwise just carried traits. Since traits are already capable of bending the game mechanics quite a bit, it should hopefully do a lot to differentiate the feel of different monster types so long as the trait is interesting enough. I'd also like to do more things like the Seraph consumables where some monster types just have naturally different mechanics for their basic gameplay. Luckily between the various new stat, happiness, and harvesting mechanics I'm trying to get working in the game there's a lot of more design space opened up for hopefully more interestingly differentiated monsters.

      1) Boil down consumables to a quantity. It's has already been proven that too many consumables will affect game performance. Each consumable currently carries a lot of data that simply does not matter once it's used. If you MUST have extra powers, make it based on how many consumables you use at one time instead. If you want a method to 'improve' consumables, maybe a distillery (processing raw material into a more refined form; lab being a good candidate; the cum dumpster lolz). That will free up some processing power, simplify the save file, and help differentiate the monster types more.

      2) Traits should NOT eclipse Stats, but enhance them. Currently a lot of traits make the stat the emulate look like a waste of time to build: ex. All Night Long 10 with 0 STA can still breed 11 times. Trait enhancement should make the Stat look good, not replace it. This is usually done as a multiplier (ex +10% per rank with rank 10 just a doubler). End result is roughly the same, but you still need to build the stat to get full effect. (All Night Long 10 with 0 STA would be 2, 4 at 100, 6 at 200, etc).

      3) Game breakers can weaken a game: Human Intelligence, True Breeding, Incorrigible.... stuff like this can make the game too easy and thereby boring. I'm not saying to take them out, there is a certain sense of achievement when you can accomplish it the first time, but then ALL your offspring are super beasts and then the high fades. This is more of a warning to avoid too many OP traits.

The following are a little more specific and may not apply anymore:

      4) Futa/Neo options: Currently the only hide their corresponding sprite, it should also hide it from the trait list and shouldn't randomly appear in the wild or be inheritable anymore. If I don't want it, it shouldn't be there at all. Talking about the option of Futa/Neo not taking Futa/Neo out of the game for those that may misinterpret.

      5) Changeling - despite being called such, they never change themselves. Maybe change this to a rated trait for the chance of changing into the last thing it breed with (barring pen size restrictions, pen already full 0% of changing). Currently Changeling is strangly dependent on what pens you already have and it really doesn't make a lot of sense. Also gives meaning to have a monster of every breed type.

Worried about word count, I leave at this for now..

    12. How to make monsters unique based off of what we have now:

The Basic Six - 'The Bread and Butter of the game'; only way to improve a stat modifier past the parents' level is to have said basic as a parent (Wolves for STR, Cows for CHA, etc). Not sure if the modifier is just a rank or an actual number that is expressed as a rank so not sure how well that'll play out.

Elves: Only race that can be either gender. Definitely get the mechanic of breeding with another monster could produce an elf of either gender.

Serpith(?, just realized I have yet to do that): Off hand (maybe, not this one), cannot breed it (no offspring starts like this); must be made.

-Bug Note: With dialog turned off, there is no way to know what the Marquis wants to finish her quest.

Vary true and its best for him to read the comments for a few minutes some people seem upset and are acting like a broken record H-bomb try's too fix it but some of them are like " This is our game not yours now snap too it H-bomb my money pays for your shit and fuck off with these excuses and apologies if you can't get your shit together then find someone that can" at least that's how i see it and H-bomb doesn't need that kind of crap i can't what for the website to go up so i don't have to see this kind of bullshit i can understand criticizing but some of this is just uncalled for its truly pathetic i'm just glad H-bomb has gotten wiser and skips over some if them.

  26. Great up date I really love it. But from playing the latest version of the game I have to ask if it is possible to add an x fact to all random event based on how many times you visit a place. For instance I came through the full game one time with out ever getting the random event to go meet the elf girl Marchioness even though I was went to the castle 30-40 through out my game. What I am suggesting is could you add an x factor to the randomize function ex. (the current random event generator) * X(X is 1 to start with) where X is the amount of times you have gone to the place like palace, beach, farm event and other places add later with events. This way it will become more and more likely that you will actually get the event you want. When you have had a specific event ex. wild dickwolf event then X should be set back to 1 again. Hope you will implement something like this so that we can see all the new content by being persistent and not just lucky.

  27. LOl... high DEX monsters lasting a few minutes.
But say, since you brought it up, should breeding time depend on some traits or stats or something?

Hair trigger / Orgasmic - sex lasts shorter
Frigid /Slow boil - sex last longer

  29. Too late, I don't care anymore. Do what you want, and if the rest of people keep funding you, take that as a sign to continue at your pace.
I honestly don't think about funding you again, I don't see that money going somewhere worth investing.

  31. I think the harvest system could be better, we could choose how we want to harvest, using hand, mouth, feet, ass, and each one could have levels, more level, more you harvest, this way the interactions with the monsters would be more diverse and have little of everything, handjobs, blowjobs, footjobs, anal, vaginal, etc.

Seriusly I got to ask you pledgers you know who you are if you dont think H-bomb is doing hes best or not being serios about the game then why are you still pledging? and if you ask me just because your pledging dosent give you the rights to demand things from H-Bomb its donations and you donate because you want to support some one

  34. Hey, you guys thinking about upgrading the monster apparance as they level up? Like lets say a lvl 1 harpy is small and cute but a lvl max harpy is big and way more exotic. Seems like a lot of work, but it can be really cool.

  36. I must say that all the gameplay changes sound reasonable and good. You've done some good job there! I can say that for sure.

However, I am disappointed with lack of new content, since it's not you who is working on it alone... or are you? I don't know who is managing the work there, but If you're the boss I believe you should push your artist a bit more :)

    2. Pretty funny really. 31 days, 5 animations, and I guess we'll see what the new coding is like in... probably 10 or so hours. But I agree with Anon @ 8:37am in that the amount of content is a massive disappointment for how long we've been waiting for this update and while Harista's work MIGHT be sort of "Alright, this is pretty cool" it doesn't really compensate for the amount of time. Honestly having their main artist go on holiday when they wanted to do a month-long work slam was terrible planning and without him the other 2 animators don't have anything to do. Now I'm not sure when S-Purple went on holiday, but 5 animations? Sorry but having done animations and lots of artwork myself I know he was either slacking, out of idea's, or went very early in the month when they wanted to do the most work.

Sorry but regardless of what is put out in this update I personally feel like it's a lot less than they should have done for the amount of people supporting this project, and seeing as S-Purple is getting paid like a fucking king to do this project I honestly don't think there is enough current content to justify the amount he is getting paid. If of course he is getting his 1/4 cut of the massively monthly income. Just feels like these guys do take their sweet ass time doing the content side of this while from what I see above, Harista has been working his ass off.

Now before anyone says "you do it better" or anything like that, S-Purple IS a way better artist than me, but that doesn't change anything I've said here. Damn these 1st world problems I have! RELEASE MY PORN AT A SCHEDULE TO SUIT ME! :D lol

Still... I like this project too much to stop supporting it. Damn you H-Bomb, damn you for making me love this.

    3. MadMrWobble Couldn't agree more. The comparison of price/product ratio is too damn low. The game is amazing, but considering the amount of cash put into it, the development's real slow :(

    4. I would argue that s-purple puts out more content than the other's can keep up with. they have 5 animations completed and yet, I can think of like 9 poses that s purple has released on his blog that aren't in game yet. Like 10 monsters, and moster variations. and a couple of event scenes. The reason he was able to take 2 weeks off is probably because he's two weeks ahead of everyone else :P

      Delete
    5. Anon @ 3:53 - That's totally my fault for not checking his blog (I hate spoilers).

But if that is true and 2 additional animators cannot keep up with S-Purple and H-Bomb whom had until recently been carrying this project by themselves makes me think those animators are slow as fuck. Because H-Bomb and S-Purple had fairly steady updates each month with just them, and now somehow additional workers has slowed progress? What does that say about them? Sorry to bring up the money thing again but for that amount of money they should be working solid 9am - 5pm at least, and 5 animations says that they do not do that.

Apologies to S-purple however, I was probably too harsh in my original comment. You are a boss and I admire your skill. (more like jealous and envious and want to eat your heart to steal your power)

    6. They just basically rewrote the entire game. There's no way they could spend a whole lot of time dinking around with new graphical content, so this is the perfect time for S-Purple to be gone.

That doesn't let the rest of the crew entirely off the hook though, depending on the state of the rewrite. Basically, I'd say that H-Bomb is a very inexperienced developer (as opposed to 'programmer'), who is still getting down all the additional skills necessary to manage much more ambitious projects. The big thing is that it sounds like they finally have the design skeleton relatively firm, and progress should be a lot smoother from here on out if so.

      Delete
    7. If my understanding is correct, H-bomb re-wrote the game. S-purple is entitled to this time off, and that is fine. Like I said above my comment was too much and far too focused on him when I didn't even bother checking his Tumblr to see just how much work he has actually done. Thus the apology at the end of my last comment.

However, the other 2 working on this project, as far as I know, are only animations using S-purples assets to create each animation. Which mean H-Bomb and S-Purp have kept their word and done the work, awesome. Now what about them? They have everything they need, animating only, so how come they only got 5 - 10 done in 2 months? (Pretty sure the last animation to go in game was the Machioness)

I'm impressed with the new game update and I can't wait to try it, but I still feel that the amount of content over the last 2 months has been poor at best. So from a purely content orientated view, it's lacking.

Now, in this post of any post I make and I have been wrong and you can prove me wrong like Anon @ 3:53 did I will apologize for my mistake and acknowledge that I was incorrect. But unless that happens with SOLID proof, I still think there are some people in H-Bomb's team who are dragging their feet.

    8. From what I've seen, S-Purple's done his job tremendously well. It's just that the work he's done hasn't been implemented into the game yet. It's up to the animator to animate the sprites and then the game designer to actually code the sequences in.
