By the way, a lot of people have asked about player customization and that is in our plans, actually. I'm not sure when we'll have it in, but I want to have different hairstyles, eyes, skin-tone, etc that you can pick from. I know a lot of people have asked about body-type variations for the player too, and unfortunately that's more difficult (different body-types can not as easily share the same animations, etc). It's not off the table entirely, but it'll be a long time until you see it in the game. As for boob/dick size variations, that's easier for us than body-type variations, but still a bit tricky. It is, however, something that I know a lot of people want so I do want to do it eventually. Oh, and futa player is definitely a yes, but unfortunately it's another "not sure when, exactly".
I think the lips look really good and sexy. Not everybody has to have the same animelike mouth.

ReplyDeleteSomething about the coloring and contour seems really off to me especially when nude. This goes double for the male variant on spurples blog. It's almost like their heads do not look like they belong on their bodies.
Like... why is the male's chin and female breasts contour a thin black line and the body a pinkish brown randomly varying sized line? I don't know if it's just that, I'm not really an artist but it seems like the art is inconsistent in a lot of places like that and it makes the whole thing look weird to me. The contour parts that get really thick particularly stick out. Like look at the forearms of the female breeder when in the farm outfit. Why are they so randomly thick in that one picture? It Makes up like a third of her forearm.
After looking through more images, I think it is indeed more the color of the borders that's throwing me off. The tracing color is way too light for what they're supposed to do and that's why the nude bodies are the ones that stick out for me. The thickness just makes it more apparent in those areas. Also, the inconsistency of using black borders sometimes doesn't help and makes it stick out even more.
DeleteIt is mostly S-Purple's style, but it is also because of light/shadows. S uses the thicker lines to kind of emulate the darker shadows, since he uses cell-shading.So for instance the thick lines of the f!breeder's arm is because it is behind her, in the dark etc.
DeleteI feel that the black is just because this is, first and foremost, a mock-up and not the final product, just like the other sketches. SP is mostly looking for the right "feel" in these...in the final he takes care to make it have a whole theme better.
If you look at some of his older drawings, he uses more black for his tracing, it seems to be more of a thing with his most recent artwork and looks pretty weird to me in some images especially ones like this where there is still black being used even when tracing around skin. Seeing some being black while the rest being a light brown gives illusion to the viewer that the lighter one isn't the same and with the added extreme thickness, it almost comes off as a weird glow instead. Which of course doesn't make much sense in the image. That's why the face of the male doesn't look like it belongs on his body and that's why the female's breasts looks really weird. Also the female with the farm uniforms forearms look like glowsticks because all the rest of the tracing is consistent (more or less) until you get to the really thick light brown forearm lines.
DeleteI'd love to chalk this up to style but it's coming off as more of a mistake to me...
I think that either type of outline would be fine, but it looks very odd when both are used in the same game, a hundred times moreso on the very same character model.

This new one has big sultry lips that makes her seem sluttier, which I just don't prefer but I guess they are fine too.
All in all the old eyebrows and mouth gave the impression of "I'm here doing this weird stuff thanks to my parents but I'll plow through" which I loved.
As for the body, recent one had much better thighs, so thick yet still acceptable on her body type.
But these are tiny minor complaints and the new one is just fine enough.

ReplyDeleteI agree the expression is a bit 'sluttier', but to be honest, that's actually closer to the original look of the breeder, and I don't think it goes so far in that direction that you can't imagine her as a reluctant participant in the breeding trade. The other face was TOO innocent.
Until character customization is a thing, people have to use their imagination to make the default model fit their fantasy. That means that ideally, the face should work equally well for the wanton and the virgin. I think this does.
Very good analysis here, which I'd like to expand a bit.
DeleteThe big sultry lips does bring her visually closer to the original look (she looked like a super slutty country girl), but one thing that stuck with me is how she interacts in the Harvest animations with the monsters. She looks like she knows what's she's going into, but there is still a bit of "yikes and now I'm getting fucked by the monster" (and enjoying it) after getting the cum-harvesting part done. Which speaks to the feeling that I talked about earlier (I'm here doing this weird stuff thanks to my parents but I'll plow through)
It's not like she's a virginal girl getting raped, she's still enjoying and all but that's where I wanted to go with my other point.
The sultry lips give the impression that she's there saying "ok, where are the monster dicks, I'm going to leave them all dry" which is a bit on the other side of the spectrum. Closer to the old look but farther away to my interpretation of her personality.
But all in all you are completely right in that it is reduced to the internal fantasy the player is imagining for her. And it is a matter of taste if the recent face is too virginal or innocent enough to be the middle point, or, the new face is too slutty or sexy enough to be the middle point.
I guess people can say that we are over thinking this way too hard.

This fembreeders new face just looks so... Vacant. I don't like it at all. The old one was very expressive, and I feel like no matter what this girl does it's still going to be a vacant expression.

Besides, I thought the player character was modeled after the idea of "girl/boy next door"? I thought every NPC and monster appeals to some fetish in some way, and I think having the breeder be the single "girl next door" was genius. If people want her to be sexier then sure, character creation options, but I really really don't think that should be the default.
Although, I wouldn't mind the option to let my girl next door breeder gain sexier features and body after mothering a few monsters ;) But that would be a long ways off.
Overthinking? Maybe. But if the art makes the difference between some or most players seeing the character as "super slutty country girl" (in your words) and "newbie" (paraphrased), then it's not the internal fantasy determining how players see the art, it's the art determining which internal fantasy the players use to see the character.

But I didn't, I saw her more like you did, and I'm glad. It's a much more interesting character that way I think.
Anyways my point was that I think this is important discussion, not really overthinking. I'm probably not the only one who would determine her character in my head based on the art, and for the main character that's pretty important.

Newer model looks good, and what everyone is doing is putting it down because of a facial expression that will always change during animation. Hpb even said that you'll be able to customize the breeder's eyes and other parts soon enough. So give him a break and pick something more worthy to complain about.

I think I need to clarify a bit.
DeleteThere are 4 fem breeder designs so far:
1. First one that Hartista did, the original skinny country girl with huge boobs and hips who visually fits in a sex sex sex game.
2. Redesign from S-Purple, here she has her silly socks on and those proportions who some people have accused of looking like a dwarf (I think this is the one you are talking about?)
3. Recent wip from S-Purple, this is the one most of us are talking about here when we say "older" or "recent" better proportions, good boob size, warm smile, small lips and city-girl-moved-to-crazy-sex-farm newbie look, this is the one I like and others have commented about.
4. Most recent wip from S-Purple which you see in this very post from Hartista, this one has big lips, fixed feet, not so wide thighs and less innocent eyebrows.
As I said I'm fine with the new design too, its just that I feel version number 3 has a special something about it that ties in with the lore. Not really putting the new one down, I just like the discussion.
Given that she's the daughter of somewhat famous breeders, we would expect her to have generic advantages. Yet, she's also an innocent city girl. So, I would expect her to have generous lips, figure, etc, but an innocent expression, including eyebrows. Personally, I like the narrower hips a little better, but probably the wider hips are more appropriate. Boobs at least this big, and full lips seem right on, which also fits my preferences. The freckles are a nice touch, heightening the innocence, even though they're neither here nor there.

ReplyDelete1- The only problem with your colour is that it has the brightness of a 1000 suns. It's so brilliant that only the blind can look directly at it, and they'll probably be able to see it too
2- Not bad, but your edit is in a different resolution
3- Not a bad idea either, but again the resolution difference makes them look like tits from minecraft
4- Lots of flaws here, your shadowing/hashing here is worse than that of the very first version of this game.
Don't take this as trolling, but as a direct way to tell you that you're not suitable to be part of this project. Kudos for your willingness and efforts; suggestions are always welcome to be discussed here.
