S-Purple's art update!
This update is mostly just replacing much of my art with S-Purple's. The process isn't nearly done yet, so in many places my art is still lingering around, the dialog portraits don't have all of their different expressions yet, some things are still being redesigned, etc.
There have also been a few bug fixes, but some of the older bugs are still lingering around.
Expect the rest of the promised Events update to be coming later in March, along with the rest of the art overhaul.

ReplyDeleteI know not all of the new art style have been implemented yet, but consider replacing the boring blue boxes for menus with some of Shwig art, as in Shwig draws new menu backgrounds and buttons, so that the menus will be consistent with the art style :)
I'm pretty sure everything was going to be revamped. This is simply what they have done at the moment.
DeleteI think some antialias would help the new images. I put some of the images through GIMP's antialias filter and I liked them a lot more.

DeleteI tested it for a few minutes and the artwork is beautiful but I have a few bug reports: the first harpy you buy now is behind the background, the backbutton by in the dickwolfdorm is misplaced, the nextbutton for forwading the sex scenes seems unusually disproportionised, maybe it will fit when the rest of artwork is done, it's not getting dark any longer, the pregnat player is still looking like normal, Cordelia doesn't react any longer when she's cumming and the last is more an request then a bug, can you switch the buttons when your first talking to Margo? Because for all other dialogs the bottom button is the finish button, not for her.

comments on aesthetics and playability: 1) The new character art is definitely an upgrade from the old style. Bravo! 2) The new background art is good, but needs some improvement. The overall effect is that of a pointilism painting - grainy texture where it doesn't seem to belong. 3) The text boxes now need contrast. The old style (black text on white boxes) worked fine, especially with line drawings behind them. The new incorporates colors and semi-translucency... which makes some of the text (especially with the grainy backgrounds) very difficult to read.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like theres is an issue with the clock. I have seen just three digits show such as 20:3 instead of something like 20:32.

Hmm, I usually play this game in full screen mode and noticed that Shwig's art is at a lower resolution that the old. It's kinda like playing a game with 32-bit graphic monsters, but 16-bit everything else.
ReplyDeleteMaybe sharpen the images some, while it still looks good the pixelation is quite noticeable when zoomed it like that; where it wasn't an issue before.
That is not becouse his art. is in low res but becouse his graphics are not Vector type which totally beats the whole point making the game in Flash.
DeleteIn other words. They got lazy and imported image instead of maging vector shapped version of it. Just look at the big freaking arrow pointing left on sex/harvest animation.

DeleteThe pixelated edges/aliasing effect is 100% intentional. The point was to make the game look retro, like a 32-bit game. If I wanted to vectorize the art that would be trivial, but we don't want the anti-aliasing. We are actually intentionally making the game look low resolution as a stylistic choice.

Hmm, kinda a shame I think. Some of your animations were pretty good (Catgirls and Holstaurus in particular). Guess will have is see an animation from Shwig before we can really tell how well this 'retro' look is.

Go to the Legend of Krystal Forum and download the .swf file. Then just open that in a browser window (Chrome, FireFox, etc.)
DeleteHmm, if you are going to have a clock tower in town, the hands ought to match whatever the game time is.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the new font fades into the background at times and is unreadable (ex: Entering the guild hall, the date blends into the dark brown of the roof). Maybe a different font or color because black will blend into the background really easily. Or maybe change the date and time to images like the client and inventory links. Like a clock with hands (it's not like we NEED to know the exact time). Maybe something like a desk calendar for the date so you always have a white surface to put the date on. As for other font related things (like money, or talking), some kind of backing for the lettering so they don't get lost in the background is needed.
The new art is gorgeous, but there's something a bit off about it. I think it's the fact that the outlines are a little blurry, but whatever it is makes the new screens and dialogue boxes hard on the eyes. Will these be touched up later?

DeleteWould it be cleaner if it was done with vectors? Absolutely. But the style is still cool, it's less cartoon-ish.
The switch away from vector art to pixel art was a stylistic decision. The game is supposed to look retro.

This game is amazing, and I'm glad with whatever decisions that are made--the only thing that I have problems with is the fact that (and i know this has been stated before) but the text is a bit hard to read? For someone with vision problems, having distinct text from the background is a major influencing point. If not a more opaque text background--maybe a white stroke around the text itself would do it better?

Yeah the text is kind of hard to read in this version but otherwise looks amazing. since you yourself said that was the bit you least enjoy drawing it is understandable. While I'm a bit worried about the whole bestial looking anthro looking moster clash this bit I really enjoy

Hey man, got pointed towards this game ages back and thought it looked promising, but with Shwig working with you, it looks amazing. I'm no fan of bestiality, so having anthropomorphic males is a step in the right direction in my eyes. I'm gonna wait a bit for the new art style to propagate throughout the game and then probably give you a shout out on my blog to get you some more traffic.

DeleteIt's funny you mention file size, because it has actually gone down since last update. The newest update is 3.49 MB in swf form (most of the 11 MB in the .exe version is the wrapper), while the last update was 3.72 MB.

DeleteVector animations is unique one, because you will have to deal with flash... and ActionScripts not the best instrument to make games. hmm, but making game on ActionScripts with bitmap images....
About size we both known that is just a beginning... and flash kind of buggy with huge amounts of data...
Is there plan to show the difference with Neotony for males and elf ? Because I got a Dickwolf with Neoteny and an Elf Slave Girl with it too but they had no difference.

ReplyDeleteThe debt is just a plot device in the beginning and it still needs some work to make some sense (weird kind of doubling per month). It is all mostly a placeholder while he was working on other things.
DeleteIt's been a while since I've bothered to play to the point of paying off the debt, but I think you can play on regardless; just like if you miss a payment it's not really Game Over either.
Speaking of the debt... how exactly does that whole thing work? It doesn't just double, and I can't figure what determines how much it goes up.

DeleteWinner screen actually lasts for like 2 minutes and then goes away. It used to play a song. Never remembered to make it skippable.

Deleteok, got past the winner screen, have 0 debt, status shows I have my next payment at 4 mil and some change...next month rolls around, debt collector comes, pay that 4 mil,winner screen again, status now shows debt -4 mil, next payment is still at the 4 mil, next month she comes again, demanding the 4 mil payment...endless loop of now requiring 4 mil per month..

Does this game have keyboard shortcut for Save/Load?

ReplyDeleteGame plot & animations made me so addicted to the game :) I get used to the HartistaPipebomb's graphics but Shwig's is very promising can't wait to see it completed.
It would be nice to put the same pregnant picture of the breeder to the status screen. Also a pregnant animation while breeding already pregnant character would be awesome!!
Hello, it is a great game. There are some ideas, if you don't like them than never mind, but please tell me, if you will make something or if you have plans about it.
ReplyDeleteI think it would be great, if you could start with male character too. Later you have lot of money so you could make some upgrades, for example more place in monsters huts, better home or some automatic robots for harvest or another market with luxury and very expensive mosters. Another Idea, you could make places like forest, mountain, lake and so on, where you could catch your own monsters, for this you would need some new items for catching monsters. If you want to have dildos, you could make some whips or other items, which would hurt monsters for better stats or faster activities, but you would need to make health for mosters. This would be good, because monster could die too, when you are too harsh. Another idea is that, you could make specific monsters for harassing queen or royal guards, then you could pay less or later. It would bee good, if some clients have time limit or there was some rival farms that could steal your clients or you could steal their clients and i wrote above about harassing so you could harass rivals with mosters.
Sup, I prefer the old game better, the more cartoony feel seemed better for me and i feel like the more animalistic monsters were better because the game is a game about breeding the animals. In the real world, animals are selectively bred not people this seems to take away from the point of the game as its just a bunch of humanoid things banging each other. Would it be possible for you to put the 4.2 version up so i could download a copy of that game since i preferred it more?
ReplyDeleteHey this is p. cool, just notifying that futanari chickadees display the normal chickadee sprite in the positioning of the normal harpy sprite, and the neoteny trait doesn't show up. No gamebreaker, just a bit weird.

That said, you just go ahead and do your own thing, most of us aren't paying for this. Nothing kills a game faster than making the developer get tired of catering to people. Long as you're having fun, somebody else out there will be too
