I was hoping I would be able to give you the 3.5 update tonight but unfortunately things didn't go as planned and I ran into some issues. I'm pushing that back until Sunday 5/19. I really apologize to those who have been waiting for this and/or donated to see the cumshot animations. I promise to make sure this update is extra awesome just for delaying it so much.
The timeline for the new features will be Male/Male Animations on 6/2, then Neoteny (definitely the catgirl, hopefully the harpy and holstaurus as well) by 6/16. And, of course, both features will be optional and toggled from the options page.

Are the delayed cum shot animations going to cut into any of the effort put into this month's winners?

I really have no problem with people having their own tastes or opinions and expressing the desire to not see particular things in the game, I do intend to offer toggles so that people can turn off anything that squicks them or they find personally distasteful. I do, however, have a problem with people disrespecting each other, so please just keep it civil and quit the insults and name-calling.

DeleteOutside of the very niche fetish issue, I foresee a problem with feature creep. He doesn't even have all the animations done for the adult models, standard gender and now on the schedule is young models, standard gender, followed by futanari models. It's essentially tripling the number of animations when they aren't even completed once.
DeleteWhat about futanari cumshots? Would that need to be a separate feature, or would we assume that would just go along with futa? This is before any of the dozens of gameplay additions that were suggested get implemented.
I'm excited for the potential growth, and thank Hartista for all the awesome work done already, but I think the schedule is a bit aggressive and wouldn't mind gameplay updates on the 15th followed by fetish updates on the 1st.
It's entirely accurate that the number of animations I'm going to need to add in is going to grow exponentially with new monsters/features/etc. Hopefully you guys will understand if not all of the animations are implemented for all of the pairings/variations right away. This is one of the reasons I'm looking for animation help.
DeleteIdeally, I'll just be able to find people to help me with the animation. Worst case scenario, in the future I might need to slow down the rate of features being added. I've been thinking about making it just one feature a month, but I don't know if this would upset people who've already donated.
It'll make adding new monsters later on a substantial undertaking. But if what we had was fleshed out and working? A big update with a new monster each month or so isn't so bad. But I urge the author to go look at Project X, they bloated too much too fast, so they ended up having to make 9 or so enemies each with 2 different animations for each of the 7 characters, every time they added a new level. NOT INCLUDING Boss animations for everyone. So adding in all the features and then adding characters is probably the best bet in my own opinion, But the author should really decide for himself.

Announce in advance that at some point in the future you will change it to one feature at a time, then keep up the current schedule for a month or two. People who have already donated will then get their features at the rate they wanted
I believe it was put into the description that there would be unique animations. (For the Neoteny.)
DeleteFurthermore i doubt people would donate almost 200 dollars for a feature that is a simple aesthetic change with copypasted animations. Some of the animations wouldn't even be feasible due to the physical size difference, not to mention it would be a huge amount of potential wasted.
It would lower the workload, but it would be pretty costly in terms to the quality of the features. Which since he's now getting paid for each feature he implements, quality should be held at the highest regard. In terms of the workload being too extensive, i agree with you, just an advanced announcement would probably work if HartistaPipebomb is unable to get help art wise.

ReplyDeleteThe voting system is flawed in that it uses a FPTP system, which doesn't account for similarity between ideas. There is currently $182 donated for a new species to be added by people who want new content, and yet Neoteny won with $165

One major update a month wouldn't be cutting back ENOUGH, if you ask me. I think the categories need to be less broad, or made with the understanding that only one or MAYBE two breeds will be "fleshed out with each added feature per month. With maybe a non-donation poll to reflect which are the most popular breeds, with HBomb making the final decision on which art to add each month for each feature and creature. Just throwing ideas out, because I want this to remain a fun project and not HBomb feeling that they sold themself into indentured servitude.

DeleteYes, a larger workload is definitely obvious, why do you think he's looking for animation/art help? There are no "demanding" donators, just people who want to be treated fairly and a couple of people bitching about content additions not being something they personally enjoy. There are a large sum of people who are incredibly vocal, in most cases it goes hand in hand with being stupid, but stupid people, and loud people, they're both very common in the real world, and even more-so on the internet, this isn't a sign of the "coming of the end".
The only reason HBomb is still doing this, is because he's getting donations. Those donors are people he can't exactly exclude in any way if possible, it's one of the faults of accepting donations. As soon as it turns into something that the mass donors do not like, then it could stop getting donation support, and when that happens, this most likely won't be developed any longer.
The point is that the options which are winning right away are the most popular niches. Once they win, they are no longer donation magnets. Get it? The workload increases parallel to the donations drying up. Gay is in. Cumshots in. Neoteny in. Futa soon and then its down to increasing furriness and ever more specific bits and pieces. Each month the next two most popular donation draws will cash out, never to be heard from again. Then it'll be down to people donating simply because they appreciate the work already done and out of respect for the artist... Two of the more outstanding traits of internet inhabitants...
DeleteI think the way the donation system works is that HBomb is eventually going to put all the donation stuff in but people can donate to fast forward it actually getting created. So everything on the list will be done at some time or another but if you want it now then you need to donate for it.

(I'm a different person, btw) He is trying to say that HBomb won't be getting as much money and HBomb will eventually be releasing just small updates untill the game is all dried up from the lack of donations and the decreasing amounts of people wanting to play it. After a while, when the current popular niches are already in the game, it will go downhill.
DeleteThere is no lack of new things I'll be adding to get excited about and donate for. Also, these big-ticket features have won but this isn't the last you'll see of them. For instance, cum-shot animations and neoteny will go into the game, but I've decided I'm still going put up "cum-shot animations for neoteny creatures" as a separate donation feature (as it's an entirely new set of animations that I will need to make that is as large as the number of cum-shot animations that I've already made).

There's also people asking if the cum-shots being delayed will cut into the current donation winner development and quality questions regarding male/male animations all unanswered. Not to mention the last month's winner being delayed this much. I have questions of my own, and a suggestion i would want to donate for, but I'm kind of wary given the current state of things. No offense at all of course, i do enjoy your game, but getting something i want in seems a bit risky in both what I'll be getting, and when I'll be getting it even if it won, then there's the whole unanswered questions part. I'm going to be completely upfront with all of you: there's a reason I have been clear that these are donations, and not the purchase of a product or service. There is absolutely no guaranteed relationship between you giving me money and the thing you want happening. You, out of the kindness of your heart, give me money, and I, because I am not a douchebag, attempt to implement the features you want.
Show of hands, how many of you have designed, drawn, animated, and programmed a flash sim-RPG hybrid sex-game before? Well neither have I (and by the way, if you actually have, I would love to talk to you). I'm not even a software developer, I went to school for Biology and taught myself programming. Realistically I have absolutely no clue how long it'll take to put in these features and there is a very limited amount of planning I can make for the future. I am playing this all by ear.
I absolutely cannot promise that the features you want will go in, nor can I promise when they'll go in, or how they'll go in. I CAN promise that I'm not going to dump this project as long as people still care about it, that I'll do everything in my power to be as fair and accommodating to the people who were kind enough to donate to me, and that I want to make this game as much as you all want me to make this game.
But I am not a company, I am a dude who just graduated from college who lives in a converted closet and works a 40-hour a week job with a long-ass commute every day and is giving up his free time to do this.
If you donate, please donate because you like my work and you think I'm a good guy and you want me to keep doing what I'm doing. I'd like to hope that I've gotten to the point where you all can trust that I'm actually putting a lot of effort towards this, and I actually care about talking to my donors and figuring out what they'd like. If, however, you donated thinking that this was a purchase and you're expecting X services rendered for Y payment then just ask me for a refund and I'll give it to you.
Hey Hbomb i can assure you this guy loves your work. I can also assure you that i will always support this game as it is one of the best H-games i have ever played even though it's still in early development. I just wish i had drawing skills and could help but i also think that there are plenty of other lurkers here who love this game and support you!

How you chose to word the entire thing makes it sound most definitely like people will get what they want. You can't pull a 180 and not tell anyone about it, saying that because you used the term "donation" that there's no relationship between the donator and you besides a moral one. Especially since you created a system which revolves around bidding money to get a feature. There are auction donations held all the time and such that use the word "donate" but there is still an obligation to the winner. So where does it say anything about any of this anywhere?
Understandable but irrelevant. There are people who have had less experience do projects like this, the difference is you're accepting money for it, albeit donation or not. You also built a system around features to encourage people to donate for features they want implemented, with very limited information about everything. Then when you get people asking questions and pointing out what you're doing, you make a rant like this.

Irrelevant. Understandable that there are limits and I assume everyone knows full well, but i work much more than this, and i get paid far less for creating something i enjoy and occasionally having to listen to uppity people. You're not "giving" up your free time either, this isn't some gift for us, the donors allow you to use your free time of your own free will towards this project. No one is forcing you, you're choosing to work on the game, so this is completely and utterly irrelevant.

I assume you are putting a lot of effort into it, but you're working yourself into a corner and the choices you've made thus far are your own. You can't encourage people to vote for features while it says you get your feature, then say "It may not be implemented because i don't have time and it's a donation, which means i don't gotta, but i will if i have time, despite saying it will be".
You don't create a system that revolves around competetive bidding and features being implemented, if you want people to donate because they think "you're a nice guy", they do it because they want their fetish porn done. You have a dedicated donation button off to the right which includes none of that, which includes no promises, no anything, just to donate to support you. This would make sense if someone was using that button, but they aren't. They're using a bidding like feature you implemented and made promises on everywhere including on the page itself. Everything so far has been well merited, especially due to your own wording, your own choices and how you yourself set up the system.
If you're having problems, do things differently. If you want to communicate more with your donors, then do so. If you don't have answers to questions, say you don't. If you don't have time to implement features, then stop taking money from people saying you'll implement them then take more than a month to do so and wait until you do have time. There are simple solutions to all of your issues, and none of the people who comment here or even the donors are at fault.

DeleteDid you try being literate for once in your life? Scroll up, there was a guy asking questions then Hartista flipped out. Then he got a reply to his long rant. Then Hartista flipped out again using insults while earlier saying he doesn't approve of people using insults and wanted people to be civil, which he himself doesn't even do. While the response to his rant was questionable, the entire behavior that Hartista exhibited was that of a temper tantrum. This never had anything to do with refunds but all of it was about the behavior. If you can't understand that, then you shouldn't be posting because it's been stated many many times. Try reading before posting and try thinking before calling other people trolls.
I think both sides were at fault. This could have been handled way better by HartistaBomb as well, thinking otherwise is just silly. When one has to resort to criticisms with "fuck you very much" and "callous douchebag", whether they're rude or not is simply not the way to treat anyone. I could understand if the guy was actually insulting back or such, but even then, why not just delete the comment instead of going out of your way to insult people? It's in very poor taste, especially to people who actually contribute to the game and see him going out of his way to insult others instead of actually being mature about it. A nice person doesn't go out of their way to insult people, for whatever reason. There is also a lot of detailing issues that should be fixed when it comes to the donation system that he should actually comment on in a blog post or on the forums, rather than leave it to speculation and get angry at people who get flustered at not only how they're treated, but poor wording on HartistaPipebomb's explanation of donation voting.
I think this conversation really isn't going anywhere though, everyone's either blindly defending HartistaPipebomb as if he could do no wrong, or insulting others.

The point was that the behavior was uncalled for, incredibly aggressive and hypocritical. It has nothing to do with the immunity one is supposed to have from being a creator (Which i assure you, no one does.). It has nothing to do with justification, or how others act. It's how the creator has talked about ideals that should be upheld when talking to others then doing a 180 and insulting someone else because he didn't like what he said. It being rude is debatable as it was mostly incredibly blunt and forward.
The point is, even if it was justifiable which in this case it isn't, why did he go out of his way to insult someone else and do the very thing he says to others that they shouldn't do? Then say people should donate because of him being nice. While this whole misunderstanding could have been avoided by either deleting the comment and trying to clarify somewhere, or just not being a complete dick back.
