Hotfix 7.3.1

Hey, putting up hotfix 7.3.1 for patrons in a few a moments. This is a small hotfix, but it addresses the last of the save issues and lets you enjoy the new intro. Sorry for the dearth of programming updates lately; we've had our attention stolen away by some challenges in designing the revamped UI and with website development. I'll be excited to show the new UI changes we're coming up with soon!

I'll have to ask you guys to stay patient in regards to the next public release: still making sure we can get that to work correctly with the split swfs.

Also, decided to keep the .exe and .swf versions separate this time, as that appeared to be a bit confusing for some folks, and in addition switched to using .zip rather than .rar as that's a bit more universal.

Additions
- New intro! Added a little bit of spice to the beginning of the game, as you get to see the breeder traveling to the ranch for the first time!

Bug Fixes / Balance
- Should finally have all of the save issues hunted down and handled. Please let me know if any remain.

Known Issues
- There may be some weird game behavior when monsters with disabled traits are obtained
- Some animations have been disabled or are glitchy due to the new overhauls and colors
- Colors are incorrect in a number of pens and animations
- No tutorial yet (but soon! thanks choco!)

  1. Can you please add a tutorial now? Honestly its not asking for much. I mean if you can make a new intro then I'm sure adding a 'how to' section shouldn't be too difficult right? Also can you Capitalize fenris's name. While that's not a big deal it's still annoying. The website doesn't need to be done at this point in time.

    4. An in-game clickable link to an external HTML page would seem to me a good compromise between in-game manual and nothing at all.

    5. To be fair Unknown, there is NO tutorial currently. Even if you click on the refresher option it's the same result as though you chose to skip it. No need to attack people if you haven't tested it yourself first.

    6. Elaborating on the "known issues" section of this update - community member choco has put together a tutorial. HBomb had to proof it, and he was sick two weeks ago, and once he was done proofing it Spurple had to take a week off to monitor his bathroom reno. Once whatever graphics necessary are made the tutorial will be put in.

      Expect it in within the next few updates!

  4. Personally I think you guys are doing an amazing job. I still laugh about the "Where's Waldo" character in the small bunch of trees near the bottom of the map. Anyway, the only thing I am seriously worried about is there is not enough of variety between all the options. I.E; Futanary Trait and Ferrel Trait. Where as I understand there is not as much of a demand for those traits, but it would be nice to be able to tic those options, and actually see more of them in there. I love testing each and every patch that comes out on both male and female breeders, as well as seeing if I can find any glitches. However, that is the one thing that stands out the most for me. Not sure what the blue lightning bolt is all about, and I have yet to find a use for it, though I am sure it is explained somewhere. Regardless, that's my only real complaint, honestly. Love the fishing thing though. Adds for a casual pass time.

    I would like to request/suggest that once things get more going, we try and see if we cannot get an exploration system going on, with random encounters thrown in with various types of creatures you can find both in Shop and in the wild. This will help make it more immersive, if you are even worried about that. But only allow creatures/races to show up that have already been unlocked. Aside from the plant, of course.

    Just my thoughts. Keep it up, and I look forward to the many more progress patches you guys dish out.

    2. Also, you can tick the Futa and Feral traits. They're in the options. Feral has become an option since 7.1, and Futa has been there for donkey's years.
      Aside from the plant? Are you talking about the large-chested Alraune by any chance? Her name escapes me right now (a little tipsy)
      Anyone know how the game decides to decide if Margo will show up the next morning?

I mean Sirens, Harpies and Seraph can fly, for gods sake. Surely they could invade also.

      I note also that Feral and Genderbent is currently impossible. Futa Feral on the other hand is, but very very difficult to make happen.

    5. @ Squark I think you got it backwards. At least on the version I'm playing (7.1, cuz I ain't got no money) there are all Genderbent+Feral (Tiguy, Dire Titwolf, Empusa, Minotaur, etc). And there are no Feral+Futa nor Feral+Neo, which is understandable. It would add a crapton of work if they added those. :P
      And about the invasion random events, they added those way back, when there was only the Dickwolves and the Catgirls available. Plus, I think they added it to help the beginners, so only the initial monster were included. And, ferals are meant to be harder to obtain, so I dunno. But it would be a nice thing to see, though. :)

  5. Hei guys. I have been a long time fan (ever since this great game's creation really) and just love the progress you have made. I am not really a "white knight" as what people call the dev defenders but I do believe there should be less bitching at them.

    With that said onto my 2 cents and perhaps good idea in terms of game story and char development and other related things:

    I am pretty sure players of such games as Breeding Season are familiar with Corruption of Champions. This game popped into my head when I was looking at the world map due to Shawn's Waldo comment and noticed the desert area. That totally reminded me of the Sphynx and pyramid area (possible great additions in terms of locations and monsters. Pharaoh's dogs and cats anyone?). Anyway, my suggestion is to also try to get some in-depth story like that going, especially with the similar feel to CoC and the map exploration and the fetishes included. Give it a look, it could be eye-opening.

    1. Perhaps a singular Sphinx like cat that's the unfortunate result of a Breeding Experiment that the Breeder has the choice of taking in or releasing/donating? But only as a one-time event.
      As regards the Pharaoh's dogs, the only equivalent (as has been found painted in the pyramids) is a real breed called Basenji. Sort of like a Rabbit-Dog. On that subject, why aren't there Bunnies in this game?

    2. @ Squark Yes, I'd like bunnies too. Seems pretty obvious, something quite basic for all "furry" porn games. But hey, considering the amount of work they have and the amount of work they can actually get done, not only I think they'll not add anyting else, but also maybe cancel some planned additions. And that's all I'm saying, cause I don't want to start a war here. lol XD

      @ koolgam3r Anyway, about the content you suggested, it's all interesting, and I agree with you, especially regarding the storyline, which I think they will HAVE to get digging fast, and apparently they are, but we'll have to wait and see (as always, no surprise there). About the navigation though, I think they're two different types of games. CoC, TITS and FOE are more like text-based porn games, though, right? That makes them possible to add much more broad content, fetishes and storyline more easilly, while in BS, they must add all sprites, animations and stuff, and that limits their possiblities a whole lot. Then agan, both games are good, and who knows what'll happen from now on, right? :)

  6. So you guys are really planning to put cameo OCs from other artists, like Taboolicious? If so, I would like to sugest Excelia, since she is a minotaur and would fit very well on this game, and maybe one of the main trio from Queen Opala, from Gabe, and Gala, from Carmessi.
    But don't worry too much about this, keep the focus on the normal breeder animations!

    1. To put one of the Opala girls in this game, they'd first need permission from Gabe.
      Also, I've played both games (Gold version of 1, full version of 2) and they both have their problems.
      One is very linear and gets boring fast. Two has no run function which makes overland travel very dull and monotonous, even though it has far better artwork uses the "Another World" overland theme from Chrono Cross.

  7. Hi! I was checking Spurple's streams, and noticed that recently he is working on lots of gameplay stuff (which is awesome ;) ). I just have a question: what about Harpy animations? Are the scenes going to be ready for the next month for Vanilly to start on schedule? Or does that mean that the wolf animations are delayed?

    1. It is almost thursday and animation update is nowhere to be seen. I remembered at the time like this we supposed had seen the harpy animation sketch just like we saw wolf's during cat animation progress. Seeing how much they've working on gameplay stuff right now, I guess they've done all the wolf animations?

    2. Yeah, that's what I'm wondering. In order for Vanilly to keep the animation schedule, at least some of the harpy scenes should be prepared already, but we didn't really see any colored versions (or the variations) in the updates, and I haven't seen it in Spurple's streams.

      There is already quite much tension with the animations, I wouldn't want to see more delays/issues with them...

      Where I am, they have about six hours and five minutes of Wednesday left. But I've learned that sometimes real shite can get in the way more often than one would like. Perhaps let SPurple work and have someone else post the updates?

    5. Yes. With 4 team members, art update shouldn't be a huge problem cause anyone of them could upload it, right? I doubt making an update on arts/animations will take an hour from their precious time. I remembered two months ago, when they started making animations, we never miss monday art update (they've upload it right on time!). But then...The monday art has became "late art update." To make it worst, the content was repetitive (no new content, just a copy from old entry.) Sigh. I and some other just want to know the animation progres. That's all. We got rights to know.

  8. Thx for the update on the public release. I did some math on my own s per the number of animations. All i can say is good luck to the team as it is an up hill path. As per the public release plz work on 7.3 as we are near the end of the mo now anyway and getting 7.3/7.3.1 out to the blog on about 4/1 - 4/8 would show how big the change is from the old .sfw only we have right now. As per the art team keep up the hard work.

      Perhaps some sort of blurb about a resurgence in the number of Breeders trying to become what you are and coming to you for advice on how best to manage the various aspects of the lifestyle?

      Also, what effect does/will the happiness meter have?

    2. @ Squark Currently, high happiness allows a monster to activate random positive events. There are currently 3 of them:

      Gaining new preference: You monster is pining on whatever, it's adorable and they like catgirls now or whatever XD
      Random stat increase: Your monster is in exceptional mood and whatever. That's the only way to increase a stat past its growth rank (F,E,D,C,B,A,S)
      Trait swapping: Your monster acquired fans. They'll mate and pick up traits from each other (Actually, I don't think this one's working currently. It says the monster won't be able to breed for the rest od the day, but that doesn't happen, and I haven't saw any exchanged traits. Also, since I'm here, can I ask of the devs to put the event monster to the right, the mate status to left and the mate scrolling list to the bottom? It's annoying that you can't compare them head to head when you're choosing them)

      But yeah, that's all. I'd also like them to add negative events when the happiness is too low. It would add to the importance of the happiness. Plus, that would teach the auto-harvesters meanies. Hum. XD

      If it's set up anything like Slave Maker, then it's painfully simple.
      The .exe is for those that can run it, and those that can't should run the .swf in a browser.

It's like an old post of someone (Arghh! can't remember whom..) stating her concern about BS taking years to complete will invite many game devs to shine with the BS blueprints in their game and soon BS will be forgotten. This game, while still in early development, looks promising with 3D graphics. One devs, huh? That's impressive.

  16. I've been checking in on the progress of this game for quite some time because I see potential in this project. I've also taken interest in the comments because I am curious to see what the supporters of this project have to say.

    There has been some stink going on about the pace of 'progress' and its been an interested back-and-forth debate. Here is what I have to say about the matter.

    We all know games take a tremendous amount of time and effort. There is no denying that patience is needed for programming and art integration; however, let us not forget the format of 'Patreon' and how it can be used in a negative way.

    Monthly support adds security to the creator. It is a sure expectation of income. It tells you exactly how much money you will receive and gives you confidence that you will receive it again, month after month. Now having said that this formula is dangerous, because it can create a mindset of "continuous progress means continuous profit".

    Use yourself as an example, if I asked you to build me a boat and I told you I would pay a large sum of money every month to build it and said "take as long as you need", you would build the boat fast or slow? Majority I imagine would build it slow, because it's guarantied great income, month after month. It's common sense really.

    Now take that analogy and apply it to this game. "We will pay you $32,296.00 a month to build a flash game and you can basically take as long as you need." It becomes clear that if you're making that kind of money you don't simply 'finish the game' and cut your income. Game complete = end of income. These creators combined are making $387,552.00 a year, and you expect them to 'rush to completion'??

    As said before, patreon's formula of 'support artists monthly' is great but it can become dangerous when the creators get settled with their income. They aren't the first to abuse it and they aren't the last. Be aware and conscious of this, especially if you are fronting your own hard earned money into it.

    Want to do something about it? Simply threaten to pull your support if the end date isn't moved forward. I've heard 2-3 more years? Is that correct? If so that is total BS. But hey, what do I know?

    Everything mentioned above is the exact reason why I do not donate my money to a project like this unless they have a 'realistic' end date and STICK TO IT. Flash games are not rocket science and shouldn't take years to complete. With a professional team this project should have taken no more than 1 year full time, but hey people have to make a living right?

    Share your thoughts. Awareness and conversations are what get the ball rolling.

    1. I completely agree with you. Why would you want to complete the game when you're making that much every month? I believe a lot of content creators are abusing Patreon, I read some where (it's been a while since I seen it and don't quote me on it) that Patreon was used as a place to support content creators. Yes donating is supporting as well as other means. However I read that content creators could make free content and the donations were more of an optional support. Now from what I'm seeing a lot of content creators (mostly artists) Will not give you anything unless you donate to them. I find this to be rather unnerving for a few reasons, then again who wouldn't be paranoid about where their money is going? The reason why I don't donate to this team is because of how manny promises were broken and the progress it has made with in 4 to 5 months. I will use 7.2 (I think it was) as an example, they promised new animations and didn't deliver and to add more they didn't release it when they said they were going to. I know things happen but it would be wise to inform your fanbase/supporters on what's going on and the reason why you weren't able to deliver the build you promised on time. Other then that I wouldn't have any issue donating to them if I had the money to, all in all it's a great idea it's just the progress at which it's going I don't see it finishing any time soon unless they hire more help or whatever. Here's hoping they finish in 2-3 years or whatever they said they'd finish it by~!

    1. Probably not. The only new planned pen addition was the mermaids/mermans, and we haven't seen any of that. Considering the amount of work they need to do and the speed they're doing it, it's possible that, as I said before, not only they won't implement new content, but also possibly cancel planned additions. Not all hope is lost though, but if all you want to see is dragons, you'll have to wait a long time. And I'm talking, like, years. 3-4, maybe?

  22. Came back to this game after few months and... No breeding animations AGAIN... I know that art do is important but, when in a game the art is the only thing that you can see developing, it's really annoying and makes lots of giving up this game as well as a hope for something knew...

    1. They're currently in the hiring process for a composer to do the game music and a sound designer to do the sound effects, as their recent posts state. It might be implement a few versios from here. 4.5, maybe?

      While we're at it, when they get to implement the new UI, the soundtrack and the SFX, I think we can officially stop calling it alpha and call it beta, right? It's been beta for some time now, cause in theory, alpha is inside testing by someone related to the development, right?
