Wednesday Art Update

Sorry guys; there was some fumbling with who was going to be responsible for this week's art update. It's like the Monday art update, but we're doing it on Wednesday :P.

  1. Lol, new titwolves make me cry. Not one of my fav monsters anymore, indeed.

Anyway, are at least cat animations completed? Will we see anything new in the next version?

Well excuse me? F x f are suddenly "straight"? Lol.

    3. He just means the MxM animations ;) Which many people are also waiting for, but as it was mentioned a lot of times, the animations will be made according to the Tracker, which means that first all of the FBreeder animations have to be done, then the MBreeder, and then again from the top all the Cat Monsters etc. ;)

    4. Well I know what he means, but being a female homosexual, can't bear him calling fxf straight, lol.

    5. MxM animations will come once F.breeder animations are done with every monster pairing.

The neo variations are just the right size and cuteness.

  7. I remember Vanilly explaining that while she is making animations for FBreeder x Cats, then Spurple is working on the positions for FBreeder x Wolves. Is Subtank animating at the moment? Are You going to make more positions this month, or leaving it for March?

Basically, Vanilly makes up to 7 animations per month, is that how much we will be getting, or are You guys going to somehow try and make more animations per update?

    1. http://wiki.breedingseason.com/Q%26A:Animation

"The current pipline for animation development is this:

6 hours: Subtank draws a pose concept
6-8 hours Spurple does a full color version of the sketch in PaintTool Sai
6-10 hours Vanilly cuts up the poses for animation. This process may take longer if one monster obscures part of the other and new pieces have to be drawn
6-12 hours Spurple draws the alternative heads, hairs, faces , etc for each monster. If both monsters need variations, it takes twice as long.
12-24 hours FleetArt assembles the cut up poses in Adobe Flash. He also makes sure each variation has its variations working
2-3 days Vanilly creates the animation, including various intensity cycles and a cum shot
2-3 days Fleet confirms each animation can cycle though all of the color variations correctly
2 hours HBomb puts the animation in the game"

      Delete
    2. Does anyone else see the problem in this? 6 hours drawing a pose?! It's just a tiny sketch! 8 hours coloring the tiny sketch? WHAT?! 10 hours cutting up? I saw them do it in 2 hours for one of the pictures, so what the hell are they talking about?! Again, 12 hours of drawing tiny face variants for a picture?!

I can understand 3 days working on animating (since I don't know anything about that I'll assume it's a correct time), but everything else just seems waaaaaay overstretched...

Also, what the f*** is the purpose of Subtank in the team? I thought he was supposed to be animating, and apparently he is getting, let's be honest, crapload of money for drawing a "pose concept" up to 5 a week? Wow...

      Delete
    3. clearly you havnt animated before. every frame has to be drawn, as motion tweens sometimes dont work. This takes time. less time as it's a drawing rather than a physical object, but still. plus theres very little for them to take reference to how it's supposed to look.

      Delete
    4. No, I haven't animated, but nevertheless tell me, how does it take 6 hours to draw up a sketch, or a "pose concept"?

Also, I know for a fact that it doesn't take Spurple 6-8 hours for colouring the sketch, because during his stream he mostly does NOTHING, and then finishes in like 1-2 hours... Same for the face variants...

So as I mentioned in my previous comment, I don't know anything about animating, and hence I'll assume that the 3 days is an appropriate amount for it, but that's all Vanilly's doing. Where is the "new animator/team member" Subtank in there? He made a grey sketch, and that's it? Because if yes, then considering how much time it REALISTICALLY takes to make such sketches, he should already have had done all the FBreeder pose concepts, and be now finishing the MBreeder ones.

Somehow I don't see those pose concepts anywhere...

      Delete
    5. 'Pose concept' may not be precisely the right phrasing here. You're thinking that means one picture, but he actually has to draw several of them, basically going through the entire cycle of how such-and-such is fucking so-and-so. I've done a 'simple' claymation for a computer class once, and that was enough to put paid the idea of animator for me. It took the better part of three months to create what amounted to a 30 second video because I had to take a frame, stop, make subtle adjustments to the clay figure and it's surroundings, take a frame, rinse-repeat. And I had the advantage that the figure was soft and easily reset, Subtank has to do a whole new drawing for every frame with those variations.

      Delete
    6. I don't have any animating experience, so I'll say You're right. However, perhaps Your experience was different, because it just doesn't really seem like Subtank would have to make more than one picture per animation, since as we can see most of the animations are just movements within the same position. And as we can see on Spurple's stream, he never colours more than one picture per pair, and he doesn't work outside of stream.

    8. I agree with some artakons points over here. These guys aren't newbie so some people will question the time poured into the work. Nevertheless, from the schelude. It means it will take 6 days to complete 1 animations (3 days to create and 3 days to cycle it). In total, for 7 animations it took like....42 days?! Flashback of previous art post, vanilly said she hasn't start animating yet due to unfinished variants implementation. Now lets assume she has start making the animation this week....That means all the 7 finished after March. Wow. Hope I was wrong though.

      Delete
    9. I understand that people here want to defend this project, but I'll just say "Look at the streams/records", then you guys will see how much work is being done.

example: it took Spurple 30 minutes to draw one of the face variant for the Futa Titwolf. 5*30 = 2,5 hour, not 8.

Hbomb was working on NPC storylines recently. 8 hours of streaming = half a page of text...

      Delete
    10. Protip: Go animate a pose. Make it look good. Make it on par with the quality here.

THEN come back and talk about the time it takes.

      No joke.

      Shit takes time.

      Delete
    11. I said it before, and I'll say it again "I don't know anything about animating, so I am assuming that the 3 days time it takes to animate is fine".

What I was talking about is the general way the team works, which is LAZY. And I have given examples in my previous comments. Vanilly can take all the time she needs, but I don't see why Subtank has to take all this time making poses, when he could just make 5-6 in one day, and then help her with the animations.

Same with Spurple. If he wasn't mainly focusing on taking breaks and watching cartoons, all of the poses would be coloured by now and have their face variants (because it takes him 8 hours to stream, but he actually works only like 2 hours).

HBomb is also showing similar signs of lack of motivation. Last stream during 8 hours he wrote half a page of NPC storyline, and I didn't see anything else made there...

    12. Animation takes a ton of time depending on the medium, stop motion being the most time consuming that I know of. And you can't really just put more time into it and get more things done when you're doing shit. I've tried to do simple tasks around my house and sometimes I can take two hours to clean the kitchen or even six. It all fluctuates and none of it follows a strict 'you put in X hours of work so you get Y amount of work'

      http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1323920

      Delete
    13. 1. They're not doing stop-motion animation
      2. They're using a professional program to animate.
      3. They've done this for years, they know (or at least should know!) how to animate.
      4. Sure, sometimes things are going slow, everybody has bad days. But not all the time. These are not fluctuations, this is a steady trend.

      Delete
    14. Btw, in the link you posted, people talk about "full animation", i.e. basically having to REDRAW everything or most of the things that change in the next frame. This is on a whole other level than cutting up sprites and manipulating the pieces.

  8. I am really sorry to say but i am patreon or lets better say i was patreon cause i really liked the game... but as i see the more money we blow up your asses the slower you getting, hell you earn more money in a month then others in a year... this update is so meaningless... as from all those showen pictures are just 3 new to us... it is lame... very lame and lazy... i am sure others thinking like i do and i hope you will lose a lot of money due to unpleased patreons... cause just to play this slow evolving game one month earlier i don't have to pay you lazy bastards...

    Replies
    1. That's true, especially if the animations are currently made at the speed of 7/month, and basically nothing else is added to the game. Unfortunately as much as Vanilly works, she cannot handle all the animations herself, and there are no signs of Subtank aniating. Apparently he just makes the poses (meaning a few sketches a week, which could've been made in 2 hours).

Spurple doesn't seem to bother himself with work either, since I bet half of the wolf pictures don't have their face variants ready, and seeing his stream, he now draws like 2 pictures in 8 hours, which probably won't even be put into the next update...

At this rate, the project is bound to be dropped sooner or later, simple as that.

      Delete
    2. Too bad, I have to agree. I visit streams often, but what do I usually see? People watching and discussing cartoons. Like seriously.
An interesting project is made, money for the project is made, so not like any of the developers has to spend their day on a shitty work they hate. But they don't even want to do that right, like why? I'm sorry to say this, but this ship is going down. I don't feel like they're into their own project anymore. I guess I'll just keep watching the whole game slowly developing, but without putting my money into that. :/

      Delete
    3. Hold on, You came here to complain and you visit streams often but to don't say anything on their streams wtf is this are you afraid they'll rip your eyes out or something?

      Delete
    4. Like they can't "rip my eyes out" here or something. Picarto doesn't seem like a long post place. I can also complain wherever I want.
Is that all you can say to me? Say "haha u afraid lol"? Then go. This is just stupid.

      Delete
    5. You can't keep it short and simple and on top of that you don't really need to make it a damn paragraph and you can just whisper it to the developers.

You really need to be able to tell the difference between someone attacking you and just asking a fucking question.

      Delete
    6. I also can "complain" in any form I like, what's with all the hate, lol?

I do see the difference. I understand you want to defend the developers or something, but "just asking a fucking question" about someone using blogspot instead of picarto to confess their thoughts on the situation? What's your problem?

      Delete
    7. This comment has been removed by the author.

      Delete
    8. I don't understand your argument. What's wrong with complaining about the game on the game's official blog?

Writing here lets you post a detailed question/statement/complaint/etc. without being drowned out in a quick-moving stream chat within a minute, tops, which gives you and everybody else time to carefully read (hopefully) mindfully formulated statements and to react to it accordingly. We get the advantage of getting to think of probably hart-hitting questions, so it'd be just fair to give the devs the same benefit to react to it instead of overwhelming them on a live stream.

Sometimes "short and simple" just doesn't cut it, sometimes it really needs to be a damn paragraph to properly convey your message.

Also, it's not like the devs don't read the comments, as proven by Vanilly's answers on a recent post. If the other devs don't bother reading the comments here (just assumed for the sake of this argument), well, that wouldn't really be a point in their favor, would it?

Finally, no, the devs probably wouldn't rip you apart, dozens of diehard fans in the chat will though. Going to a live event of something of a large following (see BS's patreon) and openly start to critisize it will get you nothing but "booed off stage", so to speak. People don't go there to argue, they just want to have some fun. Like you don't go to a concert to loudly announce how the artist's recent music has become sub-par.

    9. AMEN!

Especially that commenting on picarto/blog was not the issue of the original comment in the first place ;)

      Delete
    10. Oh! Also, Mr. X, to answer Your question on why I don't go to the stream and complain there, it's because I am not able to catch the stream most of the time. I can only view the recorded stream on the next day. It's because of me living in a different time zone :)

      Delete
    11. You are free to do has you wish the team doesn't really even bother to comment on here that much anymore and like a said before there is a option to whisper your thoughts to them (how did you guys not know about that?) so you can avoid "the scary chat people" without them running you off.

  9. If they come up with plan releasing minimum 7 animation per month and we kinda have like 1425 animation. It will realistically takes 18 years to finish the whole thing! How does it makes sense when they said they just going to take another 2 or 3 years ONLY to finish this game. Beside, this update just like the previous, only 3 were new. So that is what they able to do in a week? Impressive. Still hope the animating is going well.

    1. They haven't said one way or the other.
And I kind of agree that the UI is kind of bulky. I would suggest that instead of a scrolling marquee along the top announcing every single sale/other notice change things around a notch. I do have some suggestions: move all options into the cogwheel menu to create a unified options screen and put it somewhere unobtrusive or make it moveable. Perhaps put the energy meter slightly above/beside the money counter.
For the monster sales/purchases use a transparent frameless window to display in descending order from top left vertically. Other notices to drop down from the top right.
But what about the Inventory, Requests and Map? Bottom Left.It may take some getting used to and more than a few errant clicks (at first) but it's a small thing, really. If you're using hotspots, I can understand it's a little more work than is comfortable, but button coordinates... less so.
I don't know much about Flash but it all seems feasible.

      This is not ok.
They get paid now, so we will complain now.

      Delete
    2. Exactly. Besides, there's no other real way to make them actually start working. Unless they see that many people "point out their shit", and do something about it.

But then again, I doubt the devs give two shits about what anyone thinks, as far as the sheep keep donating.

      Delete
    3. for those who think that dev cares about what people say in comment

S-Purple already said on his stream few days ago he don't bother to come here (blog) and read comments and he gives a flying fuck about people feedback/complains. Same probably goes for rest of the team and it's mostly Vanilly job to respond here from time to time.

Other thing that people say and it's true: they are earning doctor-level income every month and they should work every day like in normal job.... BUT... guess what S-Purple said:

"this is our hobby mot daily job so we won't spend all our time on this project"

awesome hobby guys. Derp few days a week, chat with people during streams about cartoons, deliver pathetic updates every 1-2 months and then count all the dosh you receive every month for literally nothing.

and Mr. X please don't even use the argument "you can come to stream and complain in chat". Sorry but stream chats are filled with whiteknights that gonna witch hunt every person who gonna come and say bad thing about devs work. Or you mods/admin gonna ban you and that's all.

      Delete
    4. And that's the reason why this project is doomed to fail. Because "it's a hobby, not a job", despite one of the first claims on patreon being "3000 = full-time job".

They cannot even keep that promise. Their work is lazy and inconsistent, they keep getting rid of "inconvenient" content, so that there's less work to do, and even that much they don't really bother doing...

But hey, whoever wants to donate their money, so that a group of lazy bums can have a more than decent living off of nothing much, then keep it up! Maybe after 5 or so years of draining your wallets, the team will just drop the project and move on with their lives, but at least you will know that YOU contributed to their apartments being furnished ;)

    8. Hi Vanilly!

OK - I've become a fan over the past few weeks that I've been playing the Free version, and I'm thinking of contributing via Patreon because I think this is a really fun game!

As someone who has yet to give you guys a single penny, I understand that you have zero obligation to listen to me. But if I may be so bold....

I'd rather see more "game-related" things than animations. The "Happiness" stat doesn't yet matter, but it probably should. Happier monsters could need less "energy" for breeding; "sadder" monsters need more. Those with zero happiness have a chance of running away.... How about some random weather events? Rain, snow, and heat waves (as seasonally appropriate) mean it takes more energy to do things. On beautiful days, it takes less.... Maybe a 1% chance every day for a Weather Event....

Anyway, thanks for a fun game, and keep up the good work!

By the way, letting us "export" the saved games is a neat way to let players try different management strategies concurrently.... nice touch!
