Alpha Build 7.0 for Patrons

Hey; incredibly sorry for not keeping up with updating the blog and patreon with information this month, I really dropped the ball on that and am going to look into possibly bringing on someone to help with it in the future. It's easy to forget sometimes that only a fraction of our fans and patrons watch the streams, and those were inconsistent this month due to intermittent vacation/traveling time from members of our team. I want to make sure we're keeping you all in the loop as much as possible. That said, our streaming schedules will be much more consistent next month, and I'll make sure we're making at least weekly blog updates.

This patch will be a smaller one; the largest focus was on lag optimization and bug fixes, and thankfully we managed to take a big chunk out of the lag. Note: your old save files will not transfer for this version. This should hopefully be the last time for a good few versions that this will be the case (no promises, though).

There's also a few balance changes that will take some playtesting/feedback. Let me know how you feel about the various changes.

On the subject of new breeding animations: You guys have been waiting patiently, and they'll be here soon! Right now the art team is finishing up filling out the Feral variations of the monsters, and then our focus will be heavily towards new breeding animations and filling in the holes.

7.0 Patch Notes

Old save files will not transfer (hopefully the last time for a while)

Additions
- Happiness events: there are now a handful of happiness events you can get if your monsters are happy enough (still being balanced, will need feedback on them)
- You can now harvest from the Breeding Menu
- Breeding Menu Sorting: started adding sorting options to the breeding menu, right now the menu will move last partners to the top of the list, and allows you to hide monsters that don't have any remaining hearts or can't be fed, but this will be expanded on considerably in the future (UI placeholder)
- Newborn monsters now have a few days of "summoning sickness" in which they cannot breed or generate hearts (this balance change is potentially temporary, pending feedback)
- A number of the genderbent and neoteny variants have been given unique pen silhouettes
- You can now have more than 6 requests at the same time, and if you do then you'll be able to scroll through them in the requests menu
- You can now scroll in the contacts menu, if you have enough contacts
- Breeding Menu hotkeys have been added/changed: Q will swap the folders, W will harvest, E will open the feeding menu, and R will breed the two selected monsters

Bug Fixes / Balance
- The lag should be massively diminshed; there's some things that will still need optimizing, but you should find it generally far more playable
- The Filly no longer does the creepy blinking thing
- The difficulty of bronze requests now scales slower, and new requests are more frequent
- Kittengirls have mouths!
- Futa genderbent monsters should appear properly in their pens

Known Issues
- There will be issues loading saves from older versions
- Skin and hair colors may be incorrect on some new monsters/variants
- Pen silhouettes for some neoteny monsters are currently incorrect and show up as base monsters instead
- Some animations have been disabled or are glitchy due to the new overhauls and colors
- Due to the overhaul of the color system, colors are incorrect in a number of pens and animations

    1. Well a good reason would be animations STILL missing. "Yeah they're almost here" has been said for a while now. It's a core aspect yet still missing month after month after month. Might as well be one of those old text-based adventure games. "Save games won't be compatible, but it's probably the last time!" has also been recycled since forever. That one doesn't personally bother me though, but I can see how people would get enough of it. Why it's so hard to put in the animations that have been done is mysterious; yeah sure bigger updates are better than smaller, but any is better than none, especially when stuff has been removed and then just left that way for ages.

      If I was making over 100k a year on some little project even though I haven't done too much with it yet, i sure as fuck would keep it going till it stopped being so lucrative, and if I WAS about to finish it? fuck you'd better believe i'd redesign several parts of it and take it in a newer direction, scrapping older work to redo it.

    5. See? This is what happened when they put animations as last thing in their to do list. Rages and people lose patient. I am not denying features and GUI necessity but there should be a balance between these elements. Now we have to wait a painful 2 years for animations to come. It likes making a shooting game where dev decided the shooting mechanics is the last thing to be implemented and keep bombarding with updates on gun designs and features first. Two years huh? I already make 4 finished games by now, alone by myself. They are not adult games but I believe all games was built on same concept. All that matter is, dev must have solid, permanent blueprint before making any games and know to balance between the elements to keep people interest.

      This guy is working on a 3d game by himself, and yet updates his patrons and gets more work done it seems than the full team behind this game. and breeding season is making over 20k a month while the other is at 1700. There literally is no excuse for this.

    7. If you visited the stream, you would know that they all work hard to make it a good game. They all work tirelessly. Also, remember how the old game had thick, uneven lines? Remember how parts of the monsters never looked fully connected and was just shoddy-looking all around? Yea. Because of the money they get, they want to make the game more appealing. They are finally adding in all the implements they have WANTED for the game since a hellaciously long time ago, and all everyone complains about is the animations. They have to redraw, recolor, re-animate ALL of the new monsters, plus their traits (futa, etc.) and you want this all to be mostly done and they aren't even done completing the look of the monsters? Dafuq? Do you know how much shit they would have to go through had they made all the animations, and THEN decided to make it pretty? The people would fucking QUIT because they already had to do this shit and now they have to do it AGAIN. Ya'll are impatient as hell and greedy.

  5. You really did drop the ball. Probably the vast majority doesn't watch the streams and have no idea what's going, A simple "Hello, still working on this game" is really all that's needed. You don't need to hire an extra person for that. It's very simple, very quick and keeps the community a lot calmer.

  6. Unfortunately the fact of the matter is, if they simply work on the animations, the community will have what it wants. Thus, people will not want anything else from the game so they will stop funding it. I mean really, if the game comes out, people will pirate it. This is the only way they make money. I'm out.

  7. New monsters not being available for breeding doesn't make much sense. The in game text says that the monsters are decades to centuries old by the time they are "born" so it's not like they wouldn't be fully functional. Also the monster from the Halloween event gets summoned forth and immediately breeds with the player. From a gameplay standpoint, it is really going to hurt the player since requests that require a few traits will take possibly weeks to breed and possibly not leaving the player enough time to level up the monster enough. This nerf really wasn't needed, I don't get it.

    1. Yea I'm hating this summoning sickness more and more. It's not so bad once you get going but it's brutal to start the game, it makes the first few days punishingly brutal unless you save/reload constantly to get some ideal breeding done the first day and even then it's day 4 before you can even do anything with the new monsters.

      If you absolutely must leave this new mechanic in the game, please decrease it to 1 day. It would still serve it's function and not completely make the game terrible to play for the first few days.

    2. This is exactly how I feel too. At most summoning sickness should be one day. It's frustrating feeling like there is nothing I can do with new monsters and it's not fun to be save scumming.

    3. Hope they remove it in next update. It just gives players good reason to rage quite the game, I gave up 1 minute after newborn popping out with this preferences. 3 days is too long and plus with less sex scene and other things to do, it kills the mood. I wonder whose idea for such horrible thing to be added in the game? Like we don't have enough with gross and gremlin traits.

  8. This is what i wrote on patreon: "Hi, i would like to express my concern about this project. Because it is clearly a fraud. You receive 42000$ per month since January or March and the game is still unfinished! You added new monster, new features and new structure thing but the game is still unfinished. Can you please make a fu*king TODO list of things to at least finish the basic group of monsters. Except the four or five post under this one that apparently have money to trash, other peoples have enough to see an update a month with 2-3 animation and "game balancing" and half-made new features, small update. I hope all the best for you but stop frauding people. Personally I'm tired to waste my money, on internet i can found this build in a few days freely. So. Goodbye"

    Does that mean that the few animations that exist just got cut in half? dont take me wrong here, i enjoy training and watching numbers and stats get to the quota, but considering what sort of game youre making then the first versions had alot more animations and sex scenes than we have today. It might just be me but in the previous version (6.6.6) i only got the Stallion and Holstaurus animations, not even the cat or dickwolf worked and they were the main characters in the first beta versions.

    Could we get a list of available animations in this version or just a number of available ones? Please?

      List of problems ive noticed:
      Harpies doesnt show up in their pens, Futanari´s cant be sold, Holtasaurus Skin still turns weird in their animations and that giant circle in the water when you fish that i reported a while back still doesnt end up in your inventory after you managed to fish it up.
      Due to experimentations ive managed to create some chaos in my save so im gonna restart again, the Summoning Sickness makes sense in the final product but atm its just in the way and forces you to wait untill the creature is available before you can breed and test it.
      ill update the list with other aditional bugs as i find them.

      Any changes id like to add is to change the color of Aitako´s pearl item or have an option in your inventory of making sure you cant sell it, its a real pain when you fished all day long and accidentally sell it since its the same green color as the rest of your haul. :P

    5. It's probably idle animations of the monsters when you inspect them. Like elves shivering animation or catgirls catlike purring animation and such.

      *In the breeding menue, if you scroll with your mousewheel the profile pictures disapears untill you colose and re-enter or switch the tabs (between 1 & 2) unless you have enough monsters to actually scroll.

      *Female Player x Holtasaurus was missing her eyes in the animation at the start, fixed itself halfway. (Could be lagg)

      *Aitako´s Pink Pearl dropped from 2,5 stars to 1 in my inventory overnight, not sure if i missed an update about it and its supposed to happen.

  14. Keep up the good work. I've been following the streams so I see how much work H-bomb has put in over the last month, but even so it's good to see there will be more updates on the blog. The perception that you're not working hard can sometimes be as bad as not working at all!

  15. Hartista, and the rest of the team: if you want to finish this project, make a TODO list, _publish_it_, and show how it decreases with every release, or you will be losing supporters fast. Such a list will also allow you to concentrate on getting things done and not to boggle yourself with details, and it will also be a brake on adding new features to the game. You can always fix details after the official 1.0 release. And if you add another race, a single one, assuming you already have N, you need to add 16 variants of it (two sexes * futa/no futa * neoteny/normal * feral/normal) and 16*16*(N+2) sex animations (the 2 in N+2 comes from intra-race sex and race/breeder). The numbers go up quickly; adding a tenth race requires 16 shape variants and 3072 sex animations. That's not even counting color variations. Stop doing that, finish what you have now. New races can wait, that'll be something for version 2.0.

    This game is in alpha for how many years now? Is it two? I think most of the people would expect at least a fully playable, feature complete beta at this point. As it is, they can't even see it on the horizon.

    And no, I'm not a patron. I seriously considered it in the past, but your bad project management skills turned me off. But, I am an experienced developer, and even if I don't have a significant project management background, I was still part of many projects and can spot a dying one easily. Ever heard the term "feature creep"? This is exactly what's killing "Breeding season".

    1. I kinda said this (of course you seem to be much more experienced than i in this matter) on stream and sadly it got backfired. I said it would be a lot better to just finish up what you have rather than constantly keep adding new things and just making a game looking rich where quality is not as good. Coders response was it's not easy as it looks (i certainly believe that, i can not determine it's difficulty without seeing everything they do explicitly) and if they wait until they finish what they have people will lose interest and things like that. I really like them trying to be enthusiastic about the game and i understand game is in alpha but i fear that it'll be one of those games where it never leaves alpha(early access) state and people just lose interest and move onto other things and the whole project gets abondoned(or barely surviving).

      Please take some notes. (Still thank you for the patch. And another thank you for actually listening people when releasing patches. I know adding shortcuts, sorting menu and harvesting from breeding menu were suggested during the stream.)

    2. Yes! Exactly what I was thinking! I don't care if the creators are trying to scam people or not. Nobody is forced to donate their money and time into this project. HOWEVER! When people put their money into something (and lets be honest, there is a lot of money involved), there is an expected progress for the project.

      I can clearly see that there are lots of ideas in the creators' minds and they just cannot wait to put them in the game. But those kind of things are supposed to be worked on AFTER the main/base game is finished (For example look at The Sims franchise, and I mean the first one, before they started robbing people).

      I agree with P Sulecki. Please make a To-Do list, even if not a published one. Everyone working on the BS is doing a great job, but it is important to have smaller goals, otherwise it becomes chaos.


      I wished the creators actually read the comments, I would be really sad to see such a project go to waste because of donators pulling back and the team not having any more time to work on it (since they would have to go back to having other full-time jobs).

    3. @Artakons, making the TODO list public helps convince people the project is making progress, and therefore their money will not be wasted. For many projects, a non-public TODO (or any other form of backlog) is enough. Not here, though: people are leaving the project because they see no noticeable progress towards version 1.0. Publishing the backlog is _crucial_ for BS.

    4. @PSulecki, You're right, making the list public would definitely help. What I meant is that even if they don't make the list itself public, they should have a list to work on. Because at the moment it does not seem like the developers have any specific targets, and they are just working on what they have started at the moment. Anyone who has ever made anything knows that is the most problematic way to go, and here we are talking about drawing, animating (so basically spending time on it) and then coding it, which can f**k everything up.

      And it's not like that is the first time this problem occured. After all many animations needed to be taken out because the style changed, or the programming needed an update etc.

      I know most of the donators are demanding new animations, and it's understandable, but what I would actually like to see is how systematically are the devs working on finishing the project in general.

  18. Don't be another cat house project. Finish those animations fast, its a core feature and nobody cares about color varients or that in an alpha. Your first priority should be animations and save file fixes and while lag fixes is a good thing or adding more races, that could be done in a beta version or once you get all the animations working and the save files fixed. That being said, how many people do you have working on this project cause for 40K+ a month you can have a good amount of people working on this at a time regardless of a few of them traveling. It just seems like a ploy and if that is your case, I'm out after December and adding this to a list that I check once every 3 not months if that. Now I'm not saying what you are doing is a bad thing, we have been wanting the animations for a good long while and since you are technically getting paid by us, we want them as a first priority and not a second to COLOR SCHEMES so get those out ASAP.

    1. To be precise, the implementation order should be similar to:

      -- at the project start:
      1coders) get the core mechanics in place, not all of it but enough for the animation team to start their job,
      1anims) create proof of concept portraits/animations for all the races involved,

      -- once both are finished, lock the list of races, and go to the next step;
      2coders) work on the mechanics, make it more or less complete, including the save file format,
      2anims) work on single/sex animations for all the races' basic variants, and proof of concept portrait/animations of race variants,

      -- once both are finished, lock the list of variants, and go to the next step;
      3coders) clean up and balance the mechanics, add the storyline elements, without breaking (but enhancing) the save file format - depends on the format you created, but should be easy with an XML or JSON based format; color variations should be implemented at this phase as they don't change the animation motions so they don't interfere with the animators work;
      3anims) work on as many single and sex animations of variants as you can, and also create graphics/animations for the storyline events.

      -- once both are finished, you call it a beta (as it is feature complete, even if a bit buggy and missing some art),
      4coders) concentrate on fixing bugs detected by the community, possibly creating some more storyline events and rebalancing the game;
      4anims) fill the missing sex and event animations.

      -- once both are finished, you call it a version 1.0 and release it as official. At the same time you unlock the list of races and variants;

      -- once new races and/or variants are ready, you re-release the game as version 1.1 or 2.0 or whatever.

      At the moment, the team is trying to do points 1, 2 and 3 at the same time. This creates chaos and grows the TODO list instead of making it shorter. As I see it, unless the team can put a stop to adding more races and more mechanics changes, the game is stuck in alpha, slowly losing community interest, money, and finally even developers' interest.

      It's your project, Hartista. Somebody has to put it back on track, even if it hurts your feelings about it. That someone can be you, but you have to be strong-willed and unbiased about it. It won't be easy. Or, if you are unable to do it yourself (and you may as well be), then hire someone to do it for you: add a project manager to the team, part-time should be enough.

      Otherwise, face the fact about BS dying. Okay, maybe "dying" is a harsh word, and it suggests a singular event of death - make it "fading out of people's interest", or "being forgotten".

  20. Look at all the people who don't check out the work streams. Even if they checked in once in a while, they would see how hard the team has been working on this. Throw in a bunch of misconceptions regarding how the animations work (that seems to be a constant), and I'm afraid that there's going to be no pleasing these people. Hang in there, team, those that are truly invested in the project know how hard you've been working!

    1. Better yet, just get rid of the summoning sickness. Like someone else said it might make sense when there is more to do in the game but at the moment breeding is all there is to do and this system prevents the player from doing it.

  29. Good stuff! Shame about the folks ragging on about the animations, but as I guess you've recognized that might be a communication issue more than anything.

    Could I suggest, though, that you add "has summoning sickness" to the filter? Or, perhaps changing it to a two-tiered checkbox, the primary option being "Only show breedable or harvestable monsters" and a secondary option being "Also show feedable monsters" -- thus, the use-cases players who do and don't want to feed consumables to monsters for the purposes of moar breeding/harvesting might be covered, with these options focusing on the information relevant to the user (ie, "is breedable") rather than game-mechanic attributes (ie, "has hearts or can be fed", which due to summoning obviously doesn't necessarily imply "is breedable").

    Throwing some UI hints on hotkeys onto the breeding menu would probably also be a good idea, I honestly didn't know there were any hotkeys at all for that before this blog post. They're not exactly, well, discoverable.

  31. I'm expecting two more months before we see animations slowly return. Since the next patch will be the introduction of Ferals and one patch after that before we will see animations return. This small game has shown a slow growth this past year.

    A stream is probably a bad way to keep your fans and supporters updated. They would have to tune in on your schedule and hopefully catch that part of the conversation during the stream where you mention what exactly has changed. During the past patches, commenters have asked for another person to be brought on to help the animations and it was said that would not help so I do not see how adding one more person as a community manager will be of any benefit.

    I understand that having updates at least one month apart is best for milking your supporters but try to give us more each update so that we see a reason to keep our pledges permanent. I like the game, I like the people who make the game but the development has been poorly managed.

Why are all this dumbasses complaining about no new animations? its fucking simple logic, whats the point in wasting time making animations for monsters that are being redisigned? so they last one patch and then get replaced with some better models with no animations? you finsh the model then get it to fuck, how is that simple logic so difficult to grasp?

  34. I still don't get it why they keep adding more color variant or pattern when it clearly caused glitches and turned down most sex animations that USED to be there. It is a sex game, right? Of course people would loves seeing new stallion sex scene rather than admiring stallion new color variant whatsoever in recent update. We not picasso who enjoy the artistic value because this is a game not an art project. Sadly enough the game is not enjoyable as it used to.

  35. March of 2014, since March of 2014 me and a lot of people have trusted you, giving you our support, hopes, illusion, trusting in your idea, in what you promised... What we get? Well, indeed you took the money, and spit in our faces.

    Of course the game has improved, with a lot of content (in your words bugged right now), options, quality, etc. But that's even worse, your team showed how amazing this game could have been, but the weak link on this chain, because most chains have a weak link, have ruined it.

    You have become greed. Since the beginning we have misinformation, lies, tricks, broken promises, empty words... A better web? Nope. Forum? Nope. Poll? Nope. Rewards for those who supported the project since the beginning? Nope. Full time job? Nope, even more, if this were a real job you would be more than fired time ago.

    All of that mixed with lapses of progress, content and joy, even yourself confirm that, and asked forgiveness, and again, we trusted on you. More lapses of content and then fall again, so much inconsistency... The worse is that you and your team can do amazing things, you've proved it, but for some reason, the greed and avarice have take the control and surpass all the good stuff (for the fanboys, yes, the good stuff, the game have plenty of that, ruined by the greed and delayed more years).

    Your plan is take another year? Or maybe two? Go ahead, do whatever you want, you have failed us, I don't care a legion of fanboys or people who knew the game a few months ago saying that you work a lot and we're wrong, you proved it, and you know it, we're here since the beginning, before patreon, the fame and the greed.

    I don't care the money, time ago you deserved it, a lot of it, but now that your plan is hoard enough to no need to write a single line of code on your life this is starting to become a scam.

    As a developer I feel ashamed of you. You have used every trick, every excuse, every loophole available and well known by everybody in this job.

    So, thanks, really, thanks, you showed us how amazing this could have been, and how the greed and avarice ruined it, you played with our support and hopes, and you raped it so hard... I hope you enjoyed it, and maybe once day you will understand what you have done.

    1. If you're looking for something to add here're a few things: Roll back the gaminess of the fishing and let us choose where to cast our line by clicking again. OR give us a net or a bucket or some means to catch more than one fish at a time. A notebook on what the alchemy options are so we don't have to go to the wiki/ trial and error it. Or, barring all that let us just buy the ingredients from a store too.

  39. Absolutely love the happiness events and the new evolving preferences. Especially when I discovered that even the breeder can aquire these preferences. Including gaining a specific fondness of a particular monster.

    Due to this you can build up a point where the breeder and a particular monster literally worship each other with lust and love. Please tell me you plan on having events linked to this?

    Furthermore - I noticed that when the event with matchmaking happens. You cannot pick the breeder as the monsters partner, even if their desire for each other is up to love. Would be a very interesting way to give the breeder a trait like all night long. After all, they do get a lot of practice at that point~

    1. I agree that the breeder needs some way to increase his/her traits/stats. Being stuck at an E rating in everything and not getting any useful traits make the breeder pretty useless later on in the game. I tried using debug codes on the breeder but sadly it doesn't work :/

I would like to point out despite the "high" amount of money they make it doesn't show you how many people backed out, or the deposits didn't go through, so they might be making less than a quarter of what is shown. and with taxes, paying food and rent and paying the workers they are left with not much to play with. I would rather have a game where the animations come last and the game is optimized to hell, a shit ton of content and so much more I cannot explain it all in one comment just because I am bad with words.

    1. That's still MUCH more than other professional coders get, and such coders get paid for actual work done.
      The real amount they get was stated as 24k, that's a lot, and other projects, with much less, are pumping real games on an average pace.
      Don't justify them, they're lazy, and instead of growing, they're shrinking their project in time.

I have version 6.6.1 and version 7.0 and I cannot find a debug code anywhere on this or any other web site; nor has anything come to me via email. :( Can someone please tell me how to obtain them?     1. OK, so I finally found the debug codes that were posted under the October 2015 pinup poster on the Pledge site. It appears as though ONLY those of us who are subscribers to the site AND have pledged to donate more than $1 per month CAN SEE/ACCESS this. So, that is a good thing :) Not sure why no one else could say what I am saying? Or am I saying a SECRET thing here? I don't think so. If it is for those of us who donate, then the instructions at least on how to get to it should not be a secret, or am I missing some point? Ok, so... love the game, glad I finally found the codes. Whew!

  44. I just messed around a Little and this is what I found:
    1. going to the pier for fishing. After a few seconds the game randomly casts the line.
    2. at the pier. The house symbol in the bottom left corner is has a yellow marking (edge).
    3. after going to the pier. The game bugged out and every time I hit [space] I was taken to the beach. (even at the beach. so pressing [space] at the beach could trigger events)
    4. by triggering events at the beach I managed to accumulate more than 1000 mermaid jetsam.(it only showed 1000). After selling some, to get below 1000, every time I opened the inventory the amount of mermaid jetsam in the inventory increased by 4.
    5. the wild catgirl event triggers even when the energy is 0.

    I am not concerned about animations, what I am EXTREMELY concerned about is your dedication to communicating with us. It is understandable that you all have your own lives, and that you all will want to take a break for a while. I am certain that the majority of the people that support you wouldn't mind any time you decide to put the game on the back burner as long as you let us know. If you really understand the importance of this, you'll know that it only takes a few minutes to write a message as long as mine to explain basic information on the progress of your game. That is all that we are asking for.

    You are right that there is some, but compared to the handler that only has interaction with Stalion, Demon, Cat and Harpie. Until version 6.1 we could see the Dickwolf burying his penis in her strength, if they spent many days without giving birth.
    We're talking fantasy here, then do the animation of the keeper taking rolls and interacting with the elves (s).
