Alpha Build 5.7 for Patrons and 5.6 Public Release

In just about 20 minutes here alpha build 5.7 will go up on Patreon in the Creations section, then I'll put up 5.6 for the public.

5.7 patch notes

Additions
- Brand new Save system: You can have up to six save files to quick save/load from
- These pages of six save files each can be saved to or loaded from your local computer, so you can ensure that you never lose your saves
- From now on saves will transfer between different versions much more easily
- Save files are now written in JSON and all values in the saves can be edited directly, meaning you can change your save however you'd like (if you can figure out the JSON)

Minor
- Map and Inventory screens are half-implemented and do not work correctly yet
- New Traits are partially implemented

Known Issues
- Sometimes when loading from local files the button says "Save", which is weird... (still loads correctly, though)
- A couple catgirl animations are still broken (they'll be replaced with better animations soon)

The 5.6 patch notes can be found here: http://breedingseasongame.blogspot.com/2015/01/alpha-build-56-for-patrons-and-551.html

Now that the Save system is in the last major system that needs to get finished up are the Items/Harvesting; and then implementation of the new content can commence. There'll definitely be two updates for February; one sooner rather than later that will return a lot of the missing locations/events from earlier versions to the game and have some of the new animations.

EDIT: To clarify some confusion: you click on the empty save file boxes in order to save. The "Load" and "Save" buttons on the page are for importing and exporting saves. I'll fix it to be more intuitive.

EDIT2: Re-uploaded fixed version of 5.7, if you downloaded it before attempt re-downloading it, the save system should work correctly now.

  3. The save menu does not work for me. I can export and import all 6 'nulls', but there's nothing to click on besides save and load in the menu, and as far as I can tell, no keyboard keys do anything either.

    1. I second this issue.
Either it works and it is very un-intuitive or is borked.

    2. Also I'd recommend changing the save and load buttons to 'export' and 'import' respectively.

      Delete
    3. You just click on the empty save file boxes to save. You have to back out of the menu and go to "Load" in order load instead of save.

Will attempt to make it more intuitive; changing the buttons to "Export" and "Import" is a good idea.

    2. Looking into the issue: it's working in my version.

You are clicking on the empty files to save, yes?

Also you need to back out of the menu and go to Load in order to load files instead of save them.

Sorry if the set-up is unintuitive; I'll change things to be easier to use based on feedback.

    3. Yes I have clicked nearly every inch of the save menu to no avail.

This issue would be easier to diagnose if I could use tab to highlight buttons and whatnot but alas said feature is unavailable. :/

At this point updating it with large buttons that say CLICK ME TO SAVE with programmer art would be a good temporary solution so we could at least use this feature.

    5. Okay thanks, also some friendly advice; try saying "in a bit" for anything less than an hour and "in a while" for these kind of hot-fixes. This will prevent the raging masses when the fix/release is not exactly 20 minutes after your post.

  6. Sooooo no new animations? I guess hiring yet another animator (full time this time) doesn't change the fact that we'll still be lucky to get one or two new animations per month. Vanilly is working her ass off and still nothing to show for it? What the hell is going on? There are hundreds upon hundreds of pairings that need to be animated. Unless you guys put out around 10 new ones a month, the list will never be completed...

Also, there's a bug with the flavor text not working when hovering over certain skills. I get a tiny text colored rectangle instead of the full box with text explaining what a trait does. This is true of fertile, geyser, and iron will. The other traits seem to work ok.

  15. He's still going at this from the wrong direction. Don't upload system updates until they're complete, focus on making your smaller updates animation updates and dialogue updates. When you're sure a system update is ready to go, upload it then. You should focus on getting your supporters the updates that are easier to implement and that they are more curious about first and that you have multiple people working on, so it will be easier to maintain a schedule with them.

h-bomb has enough supporters to tide him over with for now, and will gain even move when the game is wokring properly. He is doing this right by getting the gameplay down. Then comes the extras (which are being worked on by other people btw...)

    2. you can drop your sarcasm tag, because what you wrote is exactly right. This is a porn project at the end of the day, and that being the part that draws people in, hasn't been updated in a very long time. I'm not even going to bother with this release myself.

    2. O'rly? Controversial as it, monthly updates create an illusion of slow progress, because it is barely possible to make something worth playing in one month. And it is not some mild porn-arcade, it is a game based on resource managment, thus in-game balance in a programming sense requires far more mental efforts and logical solutions. Considering the overall experience of developers it is not surprising that progress is not astonishing. In fact, many promissing erotic games have more or less the same speed of development, though BS appears to has the strongest potential in a long run. I'm glad they've summoned mighty and hardworking Vanilly, as Mittsies went full brony. Just wondering why didn't they do it earlier.

      Delete
    3. Illusion of slow progress? Are you being serious here?
It's been almost 5 months since H decided to rework the core of the game, and what do we have in result? Oh, me just managed to get saves back to working and created a pile of other nonworking stuff?
Resource management, you say? BS had this management prior to H's decision to rework the core. Yes, he did work on skills to change them to what they are now, but the managing mechanics is essentially the same (he didn't reinvent it from the scratch, did he?)
And what about pictures? Which of the pictures, that appeared in his previous post didn't go public before? S had post with same preview even those were one or two month old.
The only satisfying thing (for me, that is) that was shown on the blog lately was diagram from Vanilly. That's it.

      Delete
    4. If you were downloading a game written in c++, and open gl overlaying 2d images that got the exact same effect, would you complain then?
I believe they made a mistake by writing the game in flash instead of a almost any other language, but they are definitely putting in that professional level work.

      Delete
    5. @切開
      Actually he did.
I opened the game files by curiosity and compared to version 5.3 the new way mechanics, in special traits, work are completely different. I'm not fan of either, as i'm not fun of flash as a whole.

      Delete
    6. Spare us the bullshit about resource managment problems. This is simple flash game, not a hadron collider. Speaking about potential and progress rate, take a look at Sim Borthel 2 Revival. It's 10 times more stats to handle, updates are >>daily<<. You barely notice that game is still in development phase. Mechanics works perfectly and new content is being added few times a week. Now look back at BS and tell me that 5 months witout any playable version is typical progress for games of this branch.

      Delete
    7. Hmm.... You do realize that Sim Borthel 2 Revival is made in RPG Maker with very basic animations?

While BS is made with "no" game engine.... Since you clearly don't know nothing about coding. I will try to explain:

At this point on time is like Hbomb still building his "own RPG maker", read game engine.

Building the ACTUAL program, engine, is the HARDEST part of any development. After the program, read engine, is ready it is easy and fast to add all the events and nice looking things.

So a game made in RPG Maker get updates everyday? So what, you don't even need to know how to code to do a game on that.

I'm not bashing RPG Maker, it's a excellent tool for beginners... but you are just crazy or ignorant, likely the second, to compare both.

      Delete
    8. Lol as if Flash being slightly harder an engine is any excuse for snail paced development. What kind retard thinks this slow development isn't caused by anything other than Hartista's Laziness. I hope you soon realize how deluded you are WhiteKnight-kun

      Delete
    9. What kind of retarded who:
      Don't know crap about coding.
Say CREATING a game-engine is "slighly" harder then USING a game-engine.
Don't realize when you USE the game engine you are in the last 50% of the project. While when you CREATE a game-engine you are first 50% of the project.
Don't realize that in the last 50% is where progress can be seen for ignorant to coding people, while in the first 50% the progress can only be seen for people who know how to code AND take the time to "hack" the game.

You can argue how much you want. But you only show how oblivion you are in the topic. For the others you can take my word that the game was being redone and yes there's improvement from version 5.6 to version 5.7. Not the biggest ammount i've seen but it's a good portion.
If you doubt me. Hack the game. Even because coding, at least for guys like this anno, isn't that hard right?

      Delete
    10. Well maybe if you knew how to write a proper sentence in English i could of understood what you were saying. I'm not even sure if Google translate can fuck up as much as you did right there unless you're translating from Japanese.

      Delete
    11. Well, 4:58, you might be right about nothing to be seen during the engine cration but it's more than a year without progress. The tiny steps of progress do not suggest that this project is worked on fulltime.

      Delete
    12. I laughed at "with very basic animations" part. So is it problem with engine or with animation? Afaik BS have whole bunch of animators, therefore adding animations shouldn't be a challenge. Would it hurt to attach some new animations to latest version with (not/barely) working save system? Probably it would hurt because apparently there is almost no new animations. I'm aware of streams from Vanily, but why previews from S-purple used to containt art that is 2 months old already?

As for game engine issue there's simple answer. Don't do stuff that you have no idea how to handle. Whole idea about writing code again was nothing but madness. Several months and there's still no playable version. Map is missing. Events are missing. Guild is missing. Consumables are missing. And on top of that there's still totaly random, imbalanced, not working letter grades system. Wasn't it supposed to be ready on Halloween? Look at last update - it only restored save system. Even in small update that fixes only single feature there are several bugs and glitches. One must be realy bold to show up on convent with game that is still in ruins and doesn't seem to be geting any better.

Maybe HB shouldn't touch the engine past 5.3? Maybe he could use other tool, more adequate for his skills? If RPG Maker is so easy - why not? Finaly if we he had to write whole engine again, maybe he should hire someone skilled in coding? I guess here comes bullshit about working on code created by others is slower than on own code, so no point in hiring experienced coder. At this point I would like to remind you that HB ensures us about 90% of code being writen again from 0. In this case there's no difference if you personaly create code from 0 or someone skilled creates code from 0. Except that you have to share your money with someone who knows what's he doing.

      Delete
    13. I'm the annon of 4:58.
      From my point of view?
      Yes and no.
Yes he may be touching unexplored territory to him. But so what? THAT'S how you learn how to do stuff. In fact if you are doing something without touching unknown territory you are doing it wrong, or at least in a mediocre way.

I have to agree that i wasn't fan of the whole "rewritting the code" idea. But looking at the code before and the code now, YES it was at least a plausible idea to redo it. Why? Because last code was a nightmare to add ANYTHING while the new one have a "modular" approach. What i mean?

BS 5.3 version: Trait script have 583 lines. This single code handle ALL the stats.
BS 5.7 version: Trait script have 121 lines. This code hold the name of the trait and info like: it can stack, ammount of stacks, it can be carried to the children, etc. And the most important part: It keeps the path to the script for the trait effects.

Why it's important this change that made the code more complicated? Later it's easier to create new traits and modify old ones. Instead of having to likely change ALL the traits and scripts that used it, you only need to create/modify a single script.
That's why Iron will, Fertile and Geyser don't have text in the 5,7 version. They are in the trait script, but they don't have their own script with information of what the trait do and the math. You see how this change is imporant? He can create empty information and that don't break the game. Later if a bug happens it will mess a trait, but not the entire game.

That's why even not liking the change i see that it was a good change. And for what i noticed he is doing it with everything in the game. So even if a event he add later break somehow it will break the event, not the entire game. So you can keep playing.

And no RPG maker is limited. I dout that the sex animations we have in BS would be possible in it.

      Delete
    14. PS: Hbomb still a lot to learn.
Releasing a fixed version of 5.7 with the name of 5.7? REALLY? NOOOB! At least put 5.7.1 or 5.7-fixed so if ppl don't try to play the old version instead of the new one because they have the EXACT same name.

But so far he is doing a good job.

      Delete
    15. I'm 5:08
I have to admit you might have a point about need of rewriting the code. However part about hiring someone to write the code from the very begining stays. Like I said above, when you delete 90% of code it can't hurt to rewrite it all from 0. If you wirte from 0 it's not a problem to hire a guy who have more experience.

I think RPG maker should not have problem with animations like these used in BS. Actualy animations in BS are just pieces of bodies moving / rotating in certain way, then back, then loop. In Sim Brothel every time girl "works" full size images are appearing, therefore simple animation should be possible too. It would be fun to walk with your character from cage to cage and hit Z to provoke a monster xD

      Delete
    16. I'm the same annon of 4:58

While i do believe he could have hired someone to help, and in fact i remember have read somewhere he did, in programming when you increase the number of person involved in the project you also increase the overall workload.

EG: If a project would take 100 hours to do for a single coder, when you add another one, with "similar" ammount of knowledge the project will, in the best possibilities, take 60 hours to be made. So 60 hours for each guy for a total of 120.
And that is in a team that already know eachother weel and work together well.

Why is that? Because coding is 90% how you put the code/program you "imagine" in your head in the "paper". And since 2 person don't think EXACTLY the same way, the way the imagine of said program change.
So 2 person will have to try to find a common ground, what takes times.

In companies they normally have rules about that. And in the TOP teams of the TOP companies the rate i said, 100/2 = 60, happens. In 99% of the cases the rate is around 100/2 = 70.

Now imagine what would happen if Hbomb decided to make the team bigger. Unless you are suggesting he simply give up in the code part to the more experienced guy, the gain in time wouldn't be that big. In fact it could delay the progress even more, until both start to actually work together.

      And about the RPG Maker
I believe these animations are impossible, at least when i last used rpg maker it was.

      http://steamcommunity.com/app/220700/discussions/0/864973577940649409/

And rpgmaker was BUILD to be engine of games like old finalfantasy and/or zelda. While in theory you could build anything in that with works around it would take the same ammount of time then to make a engine from scratch.

You remember what i said about the BS code change? It was "possible" to keep going with the last code but the one used now is flat better. The same would be for using RPG maker X making a engine for that.

And yeah i said it's easier/faster to make a game in RPG Maker then making a engine, but you need to take in account what the engine was made for.

Same example could be said to using Unreal engine to make a Medieval Turn based strategy game. It's "possible" but it's SO HARD and i speak that because i tried.

Another point is: RPG maker use Ruby as language.

And that's is a point so important the i will point to one famous game: Minecraft.

Minecraft is made in Java. Java is one somewhat terrible language for games. In fact this fact is strange that you can google "Minecraft written in java" and you will see alot of stuff about the topic.

When Notch was asked why, The answer, although not exactly to that question, was "I find i'm the most productive with that"

  25. I think people by and large fundamentally misunderstand the definition of the word "patron". A patron is (and here i directly quote...)
"a person who supports with money, gifts, efforts, or endorsement an artist, writer, museum, cause, charity, institution, special event, or the like"
This is not the same as buying a product. This is not a membership platform for upcoming updates. This is merely showing appreciation for someone who is artistically inclined. That's all. Expecting more is a failure on your part. You most definitely haven't hired on a porn producing art slave.
Patreon is the technological brainchild of this, allowing everyone to become a patron of the arts. If no one supports the artist, the artist either starves or gets a soul crushing day job.
Stop bitching about delays or bugs or incomplete works while the patreon keeps pulling in money. It's supporting the artist to produce their art at their pace.

As one of those people that have donated for such a tier I've communicate with H-Bomb and S-Purple when needed and I'm pretty happy where the game is heading. Progress seems slow, but it's most definitely there.

    3. Right, we have a misunderstanding here. We should support the artist. But not the animations are an art here. Not the game is an art. The real art here is an ability to easily suck loads of money for nothing. Creating a project that's stuck for almost half a year and having profits from it? A masterpiece! Go support the artist.

If were going to digress over the definition of words like some fucking little cunts then ill add that Patrons are socially and economically superior to their clients no matter what historical context you're using. Not that i think thats whats actually the case for Patreon patrons but i'm just proving that you're retarded for bring word definitions to try and White Knight for Hartista.

Patronage has always been a two way agreement which benefits both parties The Client owes something in return for the economic support he has been provided, this is not a unilateral agreement. And if the Patron isnt happy with the pace his client is working at he sure fucking does have a say in the matter, especially when no valid reason has been provided.

I have nothing against those who don't contribute - not everyone has a means to contribute, nor should it be considered a norm to contribute to something in such early alpha, but to spend time and effort shitting on the idea of contributing has to be the world's most valueless activity.

      Delete
    7. Well I contributed for the first few months, probably about 30-40 dollars. Which is way more than this piece of garbage is worth. As a former patron of this scam artist, I think you are all morons for your continued contributions. That is just my opinion. I also think it's a fact. To prove my point, if you wish to rebuttal this, post exactly how much you contributed before explaining how you aren't being scammed. The Patreon started in March 2014, an entire year ago. The game isn't even at the point that it was back then in terms of actual content. The game has been public since January 2013 on the Legend of Krystal forums. So over 2 years of development and you have a game that will be considered vaporware once the few thousand patrons finally give up. I bet in one year from now, development will either be halted or one or more of the other team members will find a better more promising project.

In return I sometimes get a Tshirt or even pizza. If I was paying all that money and volunteering my time specifically for an $8 Tshirt and a few pieces of pizza, I would definitely be a moron, but that's not how these things work. Maybe you just see yourself as a porn consumer, but I support the Breeding Season team because I think it's awesome to have interesting, funny erotic games that try to have something for more people. I would love if BS' success and others like it led the way to a whole new branch of porn. It's just like supporting the career of an artist I like, except it's kind of a team of artists.

Wow, no offense guy but thats really really sad. I can also understand now why you're in such denial. Its no wonder you would refuse to see reason after having put THAT much faith in this project.Honestly its pretty damn retarded of you to waste your money like that on someone who had dubious claims of competance and a poor track record when it came to meeting deadlines. If you saw Hartista as anything but the perfect definition of an "amateur" then you're beyond deluded. It was obvious from the beginning of this games development.

Sorry bud, but being irresponsible with your money is not an admirable trait. You just wasted your money on a guy who doesnt deserve it and will likely never deliver on the project you thought you were funding. Either that or hes going to take as much damn time as he can while the Patron money rolls in and give you piece meal updates for as long as possible.

After having put that much of a stake in a project like this, id be pretty damn mad over the lack of content Hartista has delivered over the past year. I guess some people just don't learn.

    11. Had that one ready eh 9:32?

      Delete
    12. Of course he's an amateur! He never represented himself otherwise, and the first time we ever talked (shortly after he started the Patreon) I suggested he was way overbooking himself. I've seen this whole "young ambitious programmer massively underestimates development challenge" thing play out plenty of times, though in a couple other cases I've seen programmers with lots of potential get discouraged and bail out, which has been my primary worry since before he started his Patreon. With the pretty stellar creative team he's got now, though, and the somewhat more modest project goals than he started with in the summer, I think everything's going to be alright in the end, and sooner than I thought. I'm also going to be really interested to see what his next project is and how he approaches it.

You can call that denial, but I'm not sure what I'd be denying.

      Delete
    13. You're denying that this project isnt worth your money or devotion for the amount of work thats actually being put in it. Its clear to everyone with half a brain that Hartista is barely putting any effort in this game relative to the amount of money thats being given to him. Id give a good guess that Hartista works maybe 1-2 days on week on this project given the pace this game has been developing.

Seriously though, an update after a whole month with nothing but a save system added? What do you think hes been doing this whole time? He sure was working at less that minimum effort thats for damn sure.

People complain about Hartista and his work ethic, not so much about the game itself. For every complaint about intransparency and poor development choices you will get positive acknowledgement for the artistic part of the game. SPurp and the various animators have a good amount of content just waiting to be implemented and people are mostly tired of waiting for something new. This huge-ass delay, due to the complete redesign, was unnecessary and could have been resolved more elegantly, especially with that mega huge-ass monthly stipend he gets.

Sure, go tell people to go away or how you think of them as lesser beings but don't act as if you just solved the riddle of the universe, dude.

    19. People are complaining about the lack of updates, EG: "Took a mount to release a save update". Yep anyone that have tried to make a save system know how "simple" it's.

I find amusing how ppl want new animations without the core of the game being ready. I mean seriously. these ppl realize that when the core of the game is not ready for every animation he puts in it when he makes a big update he will need to reimplement said animations?

I mean seriously go grab a project management 101 all of them will tell you that you need to work your way inside to outside of the project. And sorry to say that to you the animations are the finishing touch. The more you add early in the project, early because he still not finished the core of the game, more work you have to do later to retouch the "finishing" touch.

That amount of time is more then most of the games i have. In fact it's more than same games i've spend full retail price(60)

I will keep supporting this project because is a game i enjoyed in the 5.3 version. Is it free to play? yes but i find they deserve some money, i have that money and i can encourage them to make this game even better.

I'm glambing with my money? I don't think so. Because the version 5.3 was already worth it. If the later versions they improve the gameplay i will keep supporting the team in their next project. If it ends being bad, Well that was shame they missed a GREAT opportunity.

If may disagree with me and i think that's fine. But don't think you can say, if you did, only negatives stuff about the project and everyone, or at least me, will keep in silence.

And since i have no shame.

  29. Been poking at the build and peeking at the behind the scenes numbers. So here's a little guide to the best stats-growth:

Growth stats for offsprings are determined from the two parents' growth stats, the species' affinity to that stat, and some luck.

Currently, elves have the best stat growth potentials because they can be born as both males or females. Meaning, you can breed with the best pairing until you end up with the highest stat growth you can on the elf, make an offspring of a different gender, and breed him/her with the alternate gender's best pairing until you end up with a super-elf. The best elf you could make would have a B in everything except Fer and Cha.

Assumably, consumables, other special species, events and traits will be what lets you reach things like A and S (that or balance patches.)

    -----STR-----
    Dickwolf + F.Elf
    E and E = Chance of D (both offspring)
    D and D = Chance of C (Dickwolf offspring. F.Elf D.)
    C and D = Chance of B (Dickwolf offspring. F.Elf chance of C.)
    B and C = Chance of B (F.Elf offspring. Dickwolf stuck at B.)
    B and B = Max

    Dickwolf + Anything else
    E and E = Dickwolf offspring chance of D
D and E = Dickwolf offspring chance of C, Other chance of D
    C and D = Dickwolf offspring chance of B
    B and D = Other chance of C
    B and C = Max

    E and E = Chance of D
    D and D = Chance of C
    C and C = Chance of B
    B and B = Max

    Stallion + F.Elf or Harpy + Demon/M.Elf/Dickwolf

    2. Well, Strength, Stamina and Dexterity would have a use on the Breeder, but not the other stats.
Also, I hope that the system as it works right now is broken, because it is way worse than the old system.
The only stats of the partner that matter are Strength for more xp and Dex for less Energyuse. Other Stats have no impact on the partner after all.
Also, you need dex + charisma mainly on a Monster and MAYBE strength and stamina if you want to take less days for leveling.
Kind of sad, so I hope that get's fixed / changed back to the breedingpartner influencing what stats can upgrade upon a levelup. Though, that also means that the breeders usefullness would be highly dependent on it's statmodifiers.
E in everything will be good at the beginning and suck balls after the first month, so yeah...maybe give the ability to feed the Breeder some Harvestables.

Every once in a while i do an actual day of work and can deliver a small piece of half assed crap to my superior. Thats ok because he does not understand or care about the stuff i do and i always make sure that my stuff is not the bottleneck for the whole project, but i guess thats not really the case here.

      1. First week. Received a hefty amount of cash for last months "progress update". Formulate a vague yet slightly optimistic thread about future update plans. Promises/deadlines have to sound achievable but also realistically unbelievable for various "reasons".
      2. Second week. Let the world turn around.
      3. Third week. Optional responses to various concerned blurbs on this board. Can be replaced with an emergency thread if the new thread generated too much heat.
      4. Fourth week. Put in a days work for the update and maybe release something. Formulate a new thread for said update and apologize for various "reasons" why there was only so little progress or none at all. Promises of wildly fantastical visions for the future may or may not be addressed.
      5. To be continued next month aka 25k later.

create a class with all the player attributes create subclasses for all subclasses creatures create arrays and variables that plug into the game enigne. Pull amlibrary online for serialisation json is fine but there are more resources for xml and binary serialisation and serialise and deserialise. Cmon this is not more than 1 days work for any dev thatis worth their salt.

too much effort is going into making it backward compatible i think everyone will agree they wont b upset because a file they saved in version 5 does not work for version 7 its an issue you will have in beta because the class will change

      people can easily:
put your money towards a faster-updating project!
put it towards commissions from folks to cater to their fetishes if they're tired of waiting/complaining about the lack of them here!
put it towards learning the skill and making it themselves (even as a hobby)!

Nothing!

And for people with a lot more money that I have as a student with a shitty side job that barely manages to pay the house rent and meals. spending 10 bucks a month wont matter either.

    4. @ChadBad
I've made this argument before, but I'm assuming that most of the Anonymous's here that continue to complain are either former patrons, or have never been patrons, and continue to only see $25,000 a month, rather then the collective $1 from quite a few people.

PBS in America, as well as Wikipedia do the same thing as well. It's called, "drops in a bucket", or, mass "Crowd funding". A thousand people each donating $1 equals $1000. However, for some reason, people expect that to mean something, which is quite absurd. For me, it means, "I put $1 in a pot. The end."

Average video games, among such as Call of Duty, take upwards of $20 Million and at minimum 4 to 6 years to make. If we start from January of this year to December 2015, H-Bomb will make $300,000 +/- and be in his second full year of devolopment, the money total being (again, give or take) $600,000. So, in two years from now, at the end of the "Major videogame" devolopment cycle, he'll have made 1.2 Million. Which, I would then consider obtuse. For now, I've been donating a total of $1 for a whole 9 months, equaling $9. Now, I'm not a major investor- however, if I were to pay him $600,000 for the past two years, then I would demand something a HELLUVA lot better. But, $9 is a damn good price for me to have paid for this game, and I wouldn't change it otherwise.

Now, for godsakes, H-Bomb, if you don't update this blog, then I'll pull my patronage.

      Delete
    5. Well, to answer the original question. Payment per major update is something that would prevent me from funding any game via patron. Because who decides what a major update is ? Certainly not the patrons. So in the worst case someone could pull several updates and get the Money. And let's say the added content in each of these updates is a lot, then the gamedev could still collect quite a lot of money quickly.

Anyways, I personally withdrew my patron after this update, as it really was not a major update at all in my opinion.
I don't think that Hartista and Team deserve my financial backing right now, nor the backing of anyone else.
At least not unless he can actually keep all the promises that were made for patrongoals and patronpayments.
Meaning what you get for your patronage and the overall milestonegoals.

If the game ever gets to the same level that 5.3 is at and all those 'already up the sleeve' animations get implemented, then the Team might deserve financial backing again.
Of course this is my opinion and I'm not forcing anyone to share it.

    6. Jason and ChadBad you both make a good point I'm planing to just putting out $1 as it's just easier for me also i'm hoping that H-bomb updates the blog really soon looking at most of these comments are disgusting to read.

Actualy you asnwered your question yourself. It's the people who would decide if the update was worth it or maybe a bunch of little unimportant updates was nothing but a scam so they withdraw their support.

The idea IS fresh and reasonable. I don't think devs would agree but that would be a solution.

      @Jason, ChadBad, Mr. X
I'm suprised that this time there were no sentence about frying 1 dollar in oil. We could find it in almost every single update thread so I expected to read it here too. Maybe you would like to take a look from the other side? Stop looking at it as 1$ not worth a lolipop. Try to imagine that you get 25k $ each month (yes, i know, less due to taxes, salaries and other shit, whatever). What would you do? Would you WORK HARD only to MAKE IT STOP? Seriously? Any sane man would do anything he could to extend the time where he can harvest money for almost nothing. Of course I would do the same thing! Probably YOU would do the same thing!!
Tha's the problem! You only give 1$, it's worth nothing to you. But all these people giving 1$ every month, no matter if update was crucial or meaningless, make the devs LAZY! You support laziness, therefore you delay whole project. Slow development is fault of people like you! You don't care for little money, but in groups your little money turns into big money and are paid for taking no efforts.

Money should be a reward for making progress. Right now they are paid even for making no progress, being considered as "Like" on facebook. That's why I think the patreon system is a failure, while the idea of Ano 3:12 if reasonable and promising.

    8. Anon at 1:42 so far I've been impressed with the work that H-bomb is doing in fact a lot of progress has been made since I started putting my money into this game.

      Delete
    9. @anon,1:42: I think i would end up finding a balance, most likely working for about 6-8 hours a day, except weekends and holidays.
No one has said that you need to stop once you hit V1.0, there are plenty of monsters and possible events that could still be made, so you could go on creating content until you cant take it anymore.

    10. To the Anon at 1:42pm I guess I wasn't very specific when I made that comment I'm not a patron yet but soon I will be and the game has made so much progress sine the beginning and i'm really glad the game is coming along nicely.

    11. @Anon 1:42

You may have a point that it make some Devs lazy. But there's 2 point you are ignoring.

1 He started the game for free before all the patreon stuff. So he MAY get lazy after some point but by start he wasn't.

2 It is probably the best, if not the only, chance he has to break in the gaming industry.

You may be right about him getting lazy. But if he start to fool around, ppl will stop supporting him. So far he has the benefit of the doubt. It will not work next year.

If he is stupid enough to throw it out of the window, while staining his name, for one year of doing nothing. Well i guess 12 dollars, the one year till then, will be well spend for the laughable story.

      Delete
    12. actually before patreon hartista had a donation system where there were a bunch of options like catgirls or male/male animations or neoteny and whichever had the most donations would get his time, after finishing that he'd work on the next highest donated option

"You may be right about him getting lazy. But if he start to fool around, ppl will stop supporting him. So far he has the benefit of the doubt. It will not work next year."

That exactly is the problem here. Right now people are NOT withdrawing their support, for half a year of very few progress. And one whole year of payment before reacting in any way ? Ouch. I'm sure you can only say this because you do your math with these 12 dollars. This was not meant as an insult, I simply mean that you perfectly show what
Anon 1:52 said : "Tha's the problem! You only give 1$, it's worth nothing to you. But all these people giving 1$ every month, no matter if update was crucial or meaningless, make the devs LAZY!"

I also think that a different donationsystem is way better than a monthly donation. It may be harder on the dev, as he has no calculated, 'save' income, but from the perspective of a donator / customer / supporter, it's a lot fairer than Patreon.
Scroll down a few more posts to look at the list of patreonpromises that cannot be upheld right now. I think that is a major problem. It destroys the trust in the dev and it actually already is reason enough for me to be VERY cautious of any games that Hartista is working on. Be it his own games, or he simply beeing another coder for someone elses game. For me, his name already is linked with broken promises, missed deadlines, little progress.

In my opinion what would have helped Hartista setting a foot in this industry the msot would be a functional, fun game, developed in a reasonable time and him keeping older versions of the game to show HIS progress as a dev.

  41. Constructive criticism:: To avoid the above flaming, I would suggest while doing major reworks/overhauling, to swap back and forth between pumping out animations or other in game changes/progress that are more tangible and the main project. Doing this would appease the fan base in a steady way and help people who are not as patient or unable to understand the actual coding to feel like there is progress as opposed to the current apprehension. Just throwing it out there, I love this project, but I will say myself that it does at times feel like there is not much progress. I believe thats mostly because from a consumer perspective we can't really make much use of many of the recent changes or reworks and the few animation or events that have been incorporated for the fans, are short and not very substantial. So again, I would say putting out short playable and steady tidbits in between would lessen the severity of the flaming that is seen thus after. In summation, love the project and please in the future pace things better, for everyone's sake. Stopping tangible progress completely and working on something that for most of us is behind the scenes and or not obvious = army of human torches. FLAME ON...........or not? Just say no.....

  45. So, for something different right now.

Can we get a permanent link to what the stats mean, and what the ratings mean and what each stat does? Since the overhaul, I've been quite confused. What does E mean, what does each stat do, level? I am more confused than Gandalf.

The wiki seems to be down, and everyone seems to know what they're doing, so, please help me too. Where can I read about the game mechanics overhaul?

    ReplyDelete
  46. You should check here on the blog, a post from somewhere around August - Oktober.
E pretty much means the lowest possible chance of a statgrowth, when the Mosnter levels up.
E after Strength means that it has a low chacne of it's strength increasing when it levels.
D, C, B, A naturally ahve a higehr chance, or increase by a higher ammount per level up.
Strength increases the ammount of XP the PARTNER of this Monster gains during sex.
Stamina increases how often per day a monster can breed.
Dexterity decreases the ammount of Eenrgy consumed for breeding
    Charisma in creases the sellingprice.
I don't quite remember Willpower and Ferocity though.

Anyways, it's a really long post around August - Oktober where everything is described.

  48. I like this game a lot. I have for a while and I sincerely hope that it will be eventually completed. That being said, development of this game is atrocious... Let run through the patreon milestones first:

$1,000 goal: Increase the rate of updates - Not met for a long time. We're lucky to get one decent update a month... Really lucky.

$3,000 goal: Full time job - I guess this is met... Now that y'all are clearing >$24,000/month, I sure as shit hope so.

$4,000 goal: Voting system - Not met in any way. Never been met. Is this a joke goal?

$5,000 goal: Hire a third team member - Kind of met. Y'all hired so many animating subs, i don't even know whats going on at this point. Isn't there supposed to be music? Has Mittsies done anything in 6 months? Who knows!

$15,000 goal: Hire a fourth team member - Met in the way that the $5,000 goal should have been met. Vanilly is amazing and y'all should have hired her months ago. She seems motivated and ambitious, two traits missing from the development of this game in a long while.

And now for the woefully unfulfilled pledge benefits:

$1.00 pledge - No issue here. the newest game releases are available to these folks as they come out. Good job.

$10.00 pledge - "In addition to getting early access to the game, you'll also get access to exclusive pin-ups drawn by S-Purple, stand-alone animations made by H-Bomb, comics, small games, and other neat side-projects by the Breeding Season team." In what universe do you feel like this is being met on a monthly basis? There have been 3 pin-ups and one mini-game in 11 months of development... Not a single page of comics. No "neat side-projects." Nothing but preview animations of in-game animations. Shameful.

$30,00 pledges - These poor fuckers... "In addition to the $10 tier, you'll get a spot in the credits as a Contributor." Not once in 11 months have I seen an advertizement or acknowledgment for a $30 contributor in the game. Why are you pledging at this level? I don't understand...

$100.00 pledges - I hope you are keeping track of the months you contribute at this level. It reads to me like you can design a random encounter once a month for donating $100. since there have been 11 months with 5 $100 slots open during each, there are 55 random encounters that need to be included in the game which these pledgers have creative rights. Since the Wintermass random scene is the only random scene in a long-ass time, that is one hell of a back log...

So in summary, get your shit together BS team. You've promised many things nearly a year ago and haven't come even close to fulfilling most of them... Even when this blog got taken down, you still didn't make a dedicated website for the game. Just get it done! Hire someone to make you a fucking webpage. You're too busy making the game to do it, so just have an external party do it for you. Its not like you don't have a hell of a monthly income. What's the holdup?

FFFFFFFF...... This progress pisses me off so much sometimes!
