Alpha Build 5.5 for Patrons

Alright, I've been struggling with getting the requests menu to work all night but I realize it's already morning now so I'm going to go ahead and put up this build for all of you who have been waiting patiently. I'm going to keep working on the requests menu until it's done and then put up a hotfix as soon as I have it working. I ain't too tired so I'm just going to stay up and see if I can't get it done before this afternoon. I won't lie; the build is rougher than I would've liked, there's still a lot of placeholder stuff and some crucial missing pieces, but I should be able to hotfix the rest in ASAP. Right now Delilah doesn't take her taxes, so there's not much challenge, but I just plan on continually uploading builds over the course of the next two weeks as I add features as things should go much more quickly now that all the base systems are in place.

When I started this rewrite I had no idea that I would literally end up rewriting every last line of code in the game. On the plus side this means that there isn't a part of the game that has gone untouched in this restructuring so pretty much everything has been redesigned or improved in some way or another. The downside is that there will be a lot of bits missing or broken as I still have to recode much what was in the game before. In the past two months I've written about 5,000 lines of code, which is a personal record for me, at least :P. Honestly, putting this newest build together felt like a boss-rush of the entire rest of the project combined so far, but at the very least it is much better written than the previous builds.

But fair warning; there will be bugs. I haven't dealt with the animation bugs yet but I know what the problem is so they shouldn't be too hard to deal with. I replaced the Bug Report page with a fresh one so feel free to leave liberal reports. The new UI bits are still unfinished so they may look a bit wonky/act a bit laggy, but I plan on improving upon them to make them a bit more comfortable/convenient to use as I flesh them out more.

I'll be uploading the new build in about 20 minutes or so to the Patreon Creations section.

  1. I really hope we can see something stable (with male breeder as well) before the New Year. I really do, honestly.

But, well, good job so far, I guess?

  4. 2x30= 60 days. 60x8=480 work hour.. 5000÷480= let's say 10.. did u write 10 line per hour? Is this what u proud of? 80 line per day?

And there are nearly no animation work in last month's.. so I hope we see a beta at 2020..

    1. you know that even 4 lines of codes per days is a good days work, right?
      even -10 lines.

    2. man... i've worked for microsoft for 7 years and the biggest project i ever got was to make a 70 thousand line code work in 10 months, i guess from saying that you will atleast understand a little bit the proportions of this type of work.
it might look as not a lot but 3 simple lines of code could break the code you have written a month and a half ago and it can take days to find it and even more time to fix it... so try to be a bit more considerate, the way he did it might be a little slower but it is only to make the game worth the remake... after all, he had to rewrite the whole game to make it better and more stable for future work which means he will be able to make additions faster in the future.

    3. But the problem is, this is not a operator program, it's a game which repeats itself. I mean how many copy paste are in that 5000 lines? Half? More?

I know how to work with codes.. yeah it can be very hard and slow sometimes but it depend about what u try to create. And he is working on this game already for months.. he is not a starter.. he just doesn't want to share the money so he works alone.. there can be no other excuse for working alone..

And he even doesn't pay some for a little website and proper forum.. we stuck at this lame blog.

    4. If you want to make judgements on my coding why don't you just decompile the .swf and look at it?

It's not like the work I'm doing is invisible and you just have to take my word for it; anyone is entirely capable of examining the code that I've written and to assess whether or not I'm putting exactly as much effort into it as I claim I am, and I absolutely invite them to do so and offer feedback.

And as for additional coders; any other person working on this project would have to be trained to have a firm understanding of the entire codebase of the game, which up until recently was a labyrinthine mess that would've taken as long to explain as it would to rewrite. Fleet works closely with me on the project and knows first-hand how much difficulty I've been having coming up with ways to integrate his work into the existing codebase we had or getting him involved in the process of redesigning the code. Coordinating the work of multiple coders is a full-time job; you can't just hire another programmer and expect twice as much programming to get done instantly.

    5. Hbomb is about 1000% correct. Adding a new coder usually requires more work than not hiring a new coder for the first 1-3 months, and eventually will result in about an 80% increase in output, if they're about evenly productive. The other 20% is time lost to coordination overhead. Adding even more coders adds even more coordination overhead, until eventually the marginal value of additional coders becomes zero or even negative, unless you've also started adding experienced project managers, test engineers, build engineers, etc.

That's why there's a vast gulf between programmers (what Hbomb was when he started) and developers (what Hbomb is becoming, the hard way.)

    4. Totaly agree with Ano6:22. He sounds like troll but still he has a point.

After so long brake ALL should get something playable. Apparently rules are ok when it comes to limiting releases to patrons, but aren't ok anymore when it comes to keep own deadlines. Still the 10$ patrons will go on rampage if public recive something WITH SMALLER DELAY than they did. In that case they would have to admit they wasted 10$ and that hurts them...
This release is past several deadlines so it should be available to all! If you can make your delay smaller (only to public but still) you're supposed to do it. Right now we see big delay - developer's fault - but he won't bother to make it shorter. And the excuse here is sticking to the rules - but only to these prefered by developer.

      Dear passangers!
Today our trains are delayed 2 hours. Actualy we might make 80% of them to arrive with only 1 hour delay, but we won't do so, because we wish everyone to be furious equaly. This way we are sticking to promises* we made so you're supposed to be happy while waiting without reason.
      Have a nice waiting!

*Of course ignoring all passangers equaly was a promise. Going with the schedule wasn't.

    5. You don't have to pay 10$, with 1$ you already get the new releases as they are built and as a patron I paid knowing that it goes to future development of the game, to make it playable and free to everyone.
I really don't understand how someone who gets a product for literally nothing can complain like that. That is the kind of people who believe the own and have a right over everything. I feel but pity for you because you don't know the value of things... In this case, of somebody effort to create something great, even if you don't see its potential.

    2. Yeah, it's a sweet deal; working your ass off only to be constantly accused of being a greedy and duplicitous conman despite taking sincere efforts be transparent and open, and then having your supporters, who have been nothing but benevolent, kind, and understanding people, incessantly mocked and harassed by belligerent trolls. And then whenever you screw up you get to disappoint literally thousands of people with a vested interest in the project's success, and read every one of their upset/hurt/disparaging comments. Don't get me wrong; I'm incredibly lucky to be in this position and I'm deeply thankful I get a chance to do this, but if I'm running a scam I'm doing a really shitty job of it between all the work I'm putting into it and how much stress I'm constantly under. I don't care whether you believe it or not, but I'm working harder on this project than anything I've done before in my life and I didn't get this far by faking and half-assing it. The people who are pledging $25k every month to this project aren't idiots, they weren't just blindly duped into contributing to the game; they saw promise in what I had created and they put faith in me to follow through with it; and I happen to take their faith incredibly seriously. If I wasn't completely invested in this project how in the hell do you think I managed to gather this much support? The notion that any random scam artist could've just held out a hat and ended up with this amount of backing is intensely insulting both to me and to the people who are generously allowing me to attempt this project. If "finding suckers that will give you money for almost nothing" is so easy I would sincerely love to see you do it, because you may be surprised to learn that I didn't just expectantly hold out my hands and end up with this level of support without serious efforts to show my dedication to the project.

I also want to be clear; it's not like there's just $25,000 going into my pocket every month. First of all, after declined/faked pledges (we actually receive thousands less than the Patreon number shows each month due to people scamming US), transaction/credit card fees, and Patreon's cut we only see maybe around $16-$17k of it, and that is not including taxes, which are substantial. That money first goes to paying the each of the contracted members of our team, any development/software/equipment costs, and then is split between myself and S, and even then about half of that money is money I'm sitting on specifically to preempt future costs of running the project, hiring more help, and as a cushion to support the project's continuation if we were to lose funding for any reason. I admit I still get to take home a very respectable salary for someone with my level of work experience, but it's ultimately an average-to-low-average paycheck for a designer/programmer in the video game industry, and I'm most certainly not doing Scrooge McDuck style dives into pools full of cash in my free time like some of you seem to think.

      $25К _monthly_? (Ок, ок - without tax :) ) - but... - FlashGame? 0_o
      you are kidding.
Unfinished, "in progress" for ever, no new animations for some month, only promices, excuses and... And! -AT LAST! - New UI menu and 5000 rewrited lines of Code :)

-Hartista, - believe me - nobody interest how much lines you rewrite (and how brilliant is this code wright!) nobody! :)
Оnly other programmer will be able to estimate it.
All others wait for result and anything else.

Not one FlashGame develop - not cost that Money! :) Sorry!
Most flash games bring less money even after the sale.

You the lucky man -received this money (crazy money!) still developing game, before its sale
Well, do something well. something that you've been waiting for so long

      ------

    1. More efficient code takes less space. Not everything has been put in place yet, so future updates will be larger.

      Delete
    2. Code is rarely ever big enough to affect file size; the reduction in file size is due to me cleaning out old art assets that were still floating around in the library even though they weren't being used anymore.

That said, the new code does happen to be significantly more efficient than the old code: the 5.3 build has something like 10,000 lines of code in it, compared to the 5,000 in 5.5. Granted, there are still features that I have yet to code into the new build yet that were in the previous one, but even accounting for those I'm pretty positive the new code base is going to be a lot smaller and more compact based on the way I tried to redesigned it.

    3. Just a quick reminder here guys, the game is still an Alpha. And in case you don't know Latin, or game release methods, it usually goes: Alpha, Beta, Finished Product. Or, if you're working in release numbers the format is this: Build Number, Major Update, Minor Update. He never said it was finished, he never said it was the full game. And just because you can't see what's different, doesn't mean there's any change. Why don't you try de-compiling 5.5 and compare it to 5.0? There's bound to be a large difference.

      Delete
    4. Or rather: Major, Minor, Build, Revision. Apologies.

      Delete
    5. Keep in mind I have literally had to rewrite nearly every single line of code in the game between 5.3 and 5.5; I admit that 5.5 is very far from complete, but considering that I had to essentially start entirely from scratch in order to restructure the code base into something far more robust and extensible in order to support the ways in which we intend to expand the game and speed up the rate at which we can add new features and root out bugs, you can perhaps see why I've had struggles with it.

I appreciate your guys' patience and I want to get the game into an actual enjoyable and polished state as quickly as I possibly can. The 5.3 build was still just essentially a prototype of the game that Breeding Season is eventually going to be and moving onto the next step is just something I wasn't capable of doing seamlessly.

      Delete
    6. so this is another "playable" build that's actually isn't playable? we need to wait for 6.0 to finally get something that can be compared to 5.3?

ok H-Bomb you had your trolololol fun. Can you go back to old system and old UI that WORKED and just go back to good old updates with new animations and events? another month without stable, proper and fully playable version because you are trying to accomplish something that you can't do alone is just pathetic.

Also, I've been in software development for a couple decades now and knew long before Hbomb did that he was making promises (well, setting targets) that he couldn't keep because no one could have gotten as much done as he thought he was going to. But I support him anyway because he keeps busting his ass and trying. Also, he has a real talent for design, which isn't as easy to learn as dev skills.

  11. Hi H-B Thanks for fixing the bug page... I'll wait on using it until after you post a working version... This one isn't quite there yet.

Boy the trolls surface quick ... The only recommendation I have is to focus on implementing the basic UI as the first step in releasing the improved code. Once you clean up the event's and dialogs, please make sure the basic menus are functional. (Like being able to enter all the shops and buy harpy grease, starting with the correct pens ... Etc. Unfortunately in this state you can't describe it as playable (or even functional) ... Guess we're all going to have to wait on the hot fix.

Keep up the good work and don't let the trolls get to you, they won't ever stop, even in beta.

  15. when will the next public release be?

  16. Things I'm infinitely happy about:
    1. The tabs on the monster shop separating the monsters.
    2. The portraits reflecting what the monsters actually look like.
    3. No more clock! Although there's some sort of energy measurement that replaces it.
    4. The new requester/client format! No more faceless clients?! Awesome! I like that a lot. I hope you get a little added affection value along with those characters to go along with completing a client request.

    Things I don't like:
    1. Having to click on that folder thing on the breeding UI before I select a 2nd monster to breed with the first. That feels like one too many clicks and annoys me for some reason.... probably because I got used to doing it the old way by clicking on whatever monster and it would just cycle. I can probably get used to this.

It's shaping up, guys. Can't wait until there's a fully playable version. All my precious babbies are disappearing into nowhere land or I'm getting the white screen of nadda.

  17. Honestly, it's been requested before and I feel that the onslaught of trolls (why the hell are you still here if you don't want to support the project...?) should make it clear that a serious, moderated forum *(hell, just something you have to register for would cut down half the bullshit commonly found in the comment sections of updates) would be a much better way to receive feedback/bug reports/questions/suggestions/etc than the current mess going on now.

When you get the game operable (as in, about as many or fewer bugs as before the rewrite) please consider making and/or dedicating a team member to running a forum as a next step. I understand this'll take time, but I feel as if the pay off will be considerable.

Let's launch the forum and call it USSR (Union of Satisfied Supporters Republics).

Can't you just shut your ass? Try moving to russia, belarus, north korea or other communistic hole. You will love it there - you will be forced to "support" their projects, but hey, that's the way you are, right?

    5. Ya got me- that's exactly what I mean. A nothing-goes hugbox where we can all white knight HB's poor time management and the lack of content of updates.

Although, seriously, what is with half the commenters here? Something positive and you're drowned in overdramatic bullshit like ^, something negative and you're drowned in ridiculously optimistic/defensive white knights.

I'd like a moderated forum to drown out the five million "PUBLIC RELEASE WHEN????" "DONT LISTEN TO THE H8RS!" "fuk u hb im withdrawing my $1 patreon" comments. There is literally no purpose having them clog up the comment section when actual discussion - preferably a discussion that the team themselves would join and actually answer questions instead of 1 or 2 every other update - could be had about the game's current status and future.

Sure, people should be able to give whatever feedback they like, but the adults would like somewhere reasonable to chat while the kiddies go and play ;)

    2. Patrons have been paying H-bomb's bills for months and getting nothing as well. Public releases happen 30 days after backer release. Either pony up 1 dollar for the entertainment you've been getting or wait the 30 days. Your choice.

    5. Development is 2 months behind own schedule. New versions should be given asap to both, patreons and public. Patreons are 2 months behind and there's nothing you can do. Public can get new version right away so at least the delay will not grow to 3 months in that case. Theres is totaly no reason to keep the 1 month space between patrons and public when developer fucks up every single deadline. Public shouldn't wait another month - they already waited two. Patreons too, but that shouldn't be a problem, they like this game so much they even pay for it 25k$/month. To be fair developer should give new version to public too, but it's better to be unfair but earn money.

  27. Looks good so far.

I love the new menus; having icons displayed the way they are makes scrolling SO much easier! Plus it gives me more visual feedback.

The new breeding menu is good, the 1 and 2 hotkeys make it usable. In terms of hotkeys, I feel like a universal 'close this' hotkey is needed. In some screens, spacebar will not close a menu, and in some, escape will not close it. If I want to get back to the main screen I need to hit both alternately, in a lot of situations. I feel like just pressing either should close whatever the top window is.

Also, loving the animations, but is there a timeline on when the spinning nipples are gonna be removed? The wolf/elfgirl animation would looks so great without them, as would all the rest.

...The flying nipples aren't gonna be in the final game, are they? :(

    ReplyDelete

    1. Want to chime in to support the "universal 'close this' hotkey" idea (as long as you don't go all the way out to the menu accidentally). Just comes in handy when you're trying to move quickly through a number of items.

  28. Are you going to put anymore anime cameos in the game?

Besides trying to pay off all the debt, I made it a commitment to myself to get all female sprites to look similar to the anime character she resembles most, and it is very satisfying to do. Hahaha

(Could you also possibly, maybe, hopefully put more twin-drills for a hair style???)

  29. Honestly, I think H-Bomb should just disable commenting. The number of negative responses (whether self-justified or downright stupid) is just too high. Maybe allow commenting whenever you are searching for feedback such as bugs or what not. But really, just keep doing what you're doing. People can harp all they want but I personally believe that you're progress and effort is miles better than when you started. While, your current output may not be satisfactory for some people, it is steadily increasing. Steady improvement is all that matters in my book, and I believe that you are showing it.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think the lack of new animations is honestly the number one source of butthurt here. After all let's face it, the majority of people are here for one thing, and that one thing hasn't been updated for months, and in more recent builds it hasn't been present at all. people only have so much patience for getting their porn, especially when they're paying for it. When people check in on this project they just aren't in the mindset to appreciate a new UI.

On top of that you've got s-purple and his rather cavalier attitude on his tumblr. People had a lot more patience when they could check there after seeing delays here and at least see new content being made. But lately he's been on vacation, or 'dick deep in the juji', or down with the sniffles, or holding back content for some big reveal that never happened, or abusing people in his asks.
So from one side of the project people see endless apologies and no real progress, and from the other they see casual handwaving of their concerns and no real progress, when all they wanted was to jerk off. I'm not condoning it, but I can see why people are making irate comments, and it seems like such a simple fix to me; throw some new porn up from time to time guys, that's why people are here.

      Delete
    2. 11:51 - true, people want to see content, not some UI fireworks. No progress = rage.
10:58 - another freaking communist. Only place where people can write and you want it to be closed / censored. Pathetic.

      Delete
    3. disabling the comments would be one of the worst things to do. What would you do if you want to state your opinion but you can't write it in the comments? My first guess would be "write an email" and I doubt you would want to have all of this as your daily email list.

The main problem is the combination of long waiting time, a month without any word, the high amount of money he gets each month, the unclear definition of his to-do-list and the still not finished rewrite.
When you look in the blogs history, you will find the post on the 28th of September where H-Bomb wrote that he finished 40% of the re-write after a month of starting. So theoretically, the re-write should have been finished somewhere between end of October to mid November. Yes, we know his prediction skills are not the best but he knows that, too. So the intelligent thing to do would be to give yourself some breathing room in his own deadlines.
Also the one month silence was not the best thing to do. My guess is, H-Bomb wanted to create some sort of excitement and hype so when the finished re-write comes out, everyone loves it. But he miscalculated the time he needs and the whole thing backfired.
The high amount of money also is an easy target for criticism. Since we have no insight on how he spends his income, what working hours he has, who and how much he pays and most of all the jealousy of not getting that much money per month for a porn game that is not even finished. It is easy to say that after a long time of no direct new content (you don't really notice when the system runs 0.1 sec faster), H-Bomb gets overpaid or doesn't spend his money well enough for the cause. But since WE pay HIM to determine EVERYTHING we are to blame, too. True, programming is one of the skills that are hard to determine the real value. When you build a stone wall you see how far the wall is build, in programming it's a little harder so you can't compare this to your standard payment system. Complex theme, easy to criticize.
I, and I'm sure a lot of others, welcome the progress updates H-Bomb does. But it is hard to understand, based on previous experience, how long one point on his to-do-list will take and with repeatedly happening setbacks or occurring coding problems he gets, the discomfort of supporting this project grows. The longer the re-write takes, the more he comes into the situation to deliver, to make deadlines, to make promises and well, let's be honest: that did not work as good as we all have hoped.

In the end it is like this: every thing that does not work the way it should work sets H-Bomb further under pressure to deliver, gives everyone more ground to attack his and every supporters decisions, hurts his reputation as a professional programmer and project manager and the game/patreon will suffer in the long run. It is his responsibility to live up to his own set standards and not to our wishes. It is our responsibility to comment our opinion (be it good or bad) in a constructive manner.

      Delete
    4. Oh right, comments should just be cut off because you don't like them, is it? Would you also entertain the notion of putting those of a different opinion into "reeducation camps"? Maybe there should be a "secret police" that makes sure we all adhere to your opinion alone?

You should learn to respect different opinions even if you don't share them because many, many people suffered to make sure that we enjoy a relative freedom of expression.

  44. [PervMASTER] these are just suggestions as a fan.
But I'm not a patron so I don't know what the updates are like compared to the playable 5.3 version.

I can imagine how possibly hard it can be but I really love the animation you did when the 'player' gets raped by a Dickwolf and I think it'd be awesome if you make the player's animation just like that and not the art when she does harvesting. Also for any monster who gets harvested, I think it'd be awesome if you could keep their original 'menu' art/animation in every sex scene and not the art in their 'icon' when they get harvested. --Another thing would be, could you add a harvested scene for Futa Catgirls and Neoty kittygirls? Thanks.
