Progress Update

Finally finished up the rest of the animation display and customization system, then worked on porting more of the UI. The new set up for how animations are customized is by far the biggest improvement to come out of the rewrite so far when it comes to things that will make my own life easier in the future. It'll be extremely more manageable for me to deal with more complex animations and visual variations.

The things that I have left to tackle before I can finally put up the new build: I still have to finish porting the rest of the UI, implement the redesigned traits, implement the new dialog/events system and port the old events, implement the new consumable effects, port the existing monsters/ranch buildings, finish updating the breeding logic, and then add all the serialization methods. The upside to that list is that porting each of those things should go relatively quickly after I get over the hurdle of finishing the major systems.

I'll do another update soon with a much more solid prediction of when the build will be released; I don't want to keep you guys waiting much longer.

  3. We appreciate the update but I can't be the only person thinking that this wasn't as "sudden" of a shock as you acted like it was at the end of last month. You have over two weeks worth of work that wasn't done at that point in time. At some point before the day OF the 31st you had to know there needed to be more work done.

I support this game and I want to see it do well, but I'd also like you to be more frank with us rather than acting like you're surprised you're two weeks behind within hours of when you promised a new build.

    1. I'm willing to give H-B the benefit of the doubt. He did say he was releasing only a partially completed build before it all came tumbling down like a house of cards during integration. That's more of a "lessons learned" situation than an planned omission... I am liking the new more frequent updates.

    2. The fact that he admitted he made mistakes, acted to correct them, and showed positive momentum while doing so puts him head and shoulders above the entire triple a development scene, and even so-called professional indie types like Chucklefish. His transparency here fills me with an unfamiliar sensation that I'm going to assume is what people call "hope".

  4. This is going to be a new UI, right? Not the old one?

  5. Seriously makes you question what the f*** you did for an entire month when all we hear about is stuff you have left to do. Glad you enjoyed the vacation, hope you can keep up the new work ethic (it'd be a first).

    1. Such needless criticism. Are you a patron?

    2. I doubt they are a patron they're most likely stirring up trouble just for a quick laugh.

  6. I can't believe you're all falling for these "updates"
He's not giving you ANY proof of what he's doing. No screenshots, no previews, NOTHING. He just gets up in front of his PC, writes a paragraph or two of bullshit and you're all like "GREAT UPDATE THANKS", "OH COOL I CAN'T WAIT FOR REALEASE", "TAKE YOUR TIME MAN EZ PZ :))))"
What's more is, he's flooding his blog with these "updates" so effectively the negative comments can't pile up anymore.
    You're all fucking dumb.

  7. I've been a donator/patron since very early alpha, and that wont last much longer at this rate. Periodically he has gone cold in the water for ages and come back with a "So sorry, I didn't realize I needed to communicate. It was because of x/y/z... It wont happen again I promise. Here are a bunch of promises for next update, expect 'A-Z' implemented in next build". 28 days later we see smatterings of A-C, and more excuses.
I know that (some) responses below will be "So long, good riddance", and "Don't come back". They happen every time and I've responded with them before. Fuck it, If you're going to put them, then put them. They hold as much weight as H-Bomb's apologies.
I've not revoked my Patronage (yet). I do not want to see this project die.
I don't care if each update so much as changes the fucking font! What pisses me off is H-bomb fucking off for a month at a time and vaguely apologizing for non-communication while trying to remember his fucking update notes.

    H-Bomb;
I have bore with you since inception because I love your idea, and love to see it's slow fulfillment. I realize you are building this from scratch and those of us without your talents couldn't imagine the work that has to go into this.I will gladly help encourage and finance your idea. I have even contributed ideas on your board.

However, at this point you DO NOT get to act surprised that going for long periods of time incommunicado is going to piss people off. You have done this again and again.

I'm not asking you to put an update up every 5 minutes. But before this update burst it was 28 days between. I'm not your father, and you are a talented adult. People are paying you money to see your talent at work. You can figure out a sweet spot. The latest daily updates are much appreciated, but I have seen you do this before. I do not want to patronize you, but I would like to continue Patronizing you.

I am eagerly awaiting the next update. I don't care what it is. I don't care when it is. It could be a fucking hat expansion, with headwear for all the breeds for all I care. But you need to keep up the communication.
However if the next major update is a apologetic blog entry after 3 weeks of silence, then I will sadly be an ex-Patron.

PS; Please lift the silence from S-Purple. We know you halted his tumblr updates to make this blog's reveals seem more weighty. But when you go silent at least S-Purple updated his feed pretty regularly, and we know the project was alive.

    1. I was going to be snarky, but now I want a hat expansion. Dick Wolves in Bowler hats. Butt Stallions in Sombreros. Futa Cat Girls in party hats. I need this. Make it happen, H-Bomb.

    2. got nothing to say negative to you, everything is really understandable so i support your views, even if there not with or go along 100% with my own. I hope H bomb doesnt let you down and keeps up the communication, if he needs somebody to write updates hell I'd work that for free for him i've been checking the updates everyday. My best reguards and I hope you stay a patron, and again i hope he doesnt let you down.

    3. Cheers firedem0n5. Wasn't speaking for everyone (obviously) and just wanted to reiterate what a lot of people have said before. If I can just see some communication and ideas with a bit of S-Purples art, they can have my patronage. But silence in the water and a ball-gag on S-Purple is not cool. H-bomb has kept the updates consistent, but as above I've seen this before,
And for the anon above, I meant the hat thing that as an angry aside. But you've kinda convinced me. Hat update FTW! I'll keep my Patronage if I can see Minotaur Stetsons.

      Just saying...
Good luck H-bomb, it may not mean much from one little patron, but I believe in you! <3

  10. I have spent the last week Scrolling back through the updates for this game. I also just pulled my monthly pledge. You have been working on this for a couple years now and from what I can tell it isn't even half done. This is unacceptable considering how much money you are pulling in each month. You make as much in one quarter per fiscal year than I do in four. All we are rewarded with are excuses, tidbits, and unfinished game updates. Its quite ridiculous. I love the game. I truly do. I want to see it finished. Ive already paid more into this game than I would for a finished product at a store or online. Tell me how that is fair? Every update you post with a list of unfinished work, I begin to believe more and more that all of this is just one big scam. All you are doing is raping our pocket books and leading us along with little or no intent of actually finishing this game. That in itself is a very sad thought. This is not how you treat the people who have funded and supported you for as long as some have. We have encouraged you and backed you and in many cases defended you, and what have you given us? I hope you finish this game and do it soon. But this is me not holding my breath. Very dissapointed.

    1. From my understanding he isn't keeping it all for himself. He's hired two dedicated artists and found a good programmer to assist (AND is bringing in a project manager soon WITHOUT a new stretch goal, meaning it's coming out of the money he'd have for himself.) I'd be shocked if you could do the same WITHOUT the amount of money he's currently got.
(but if you do, link me the project. ;D)

Plus until I'm paying more than I'd pay for ONE visit to mcDonalds a month, I'm getting my money's worth. PLUS this is probably better for my health than mcD's either way.
      LOL!

    2. I never said he is keeping all the money. The GAME is bringing in 23K a month. That money is SUPPOSED to go towards the development of the game. Yes I would expect him to keep a percentage. That's the beautiful thing about capitalism and supply and demand. But lets be honest here. This isn't Destiny, Or Halo 5, or Forzza, or anything like that. Yet this game has been in the works for longer than most professional games. And yes yes I know that all those games are put together by teams of people sometimes numbering in the hundreds, but again this is NOT that caliber of game. This is supposed to be a simple fun game for a very limited demographic. But its clear that he is not making a dedicated effort to finish this game. I'm not convinced he has any intention of completing it. Until I see evidence to the contrary I will not offer my patronage. You may do as you wish. This is just my point of view. I'm not telling you to do or not to do anything.

    3. The game has only been taking in money for development for a few months. The large majority of the time the game has been in development there was no money involved and it was something hartista worked on in his free time. Throwing money at him doesn't change the fact that he is still the same person he was as when he was not receiving money for it - a young developer/artist that doesn't have much experience but has some passion for what he is doing.

For whatever it's worth, I was a patron but pulled my pledge a month or two because, while still interested in the game, I decided I didn't like how it was progressing. But seriously? "Raping our pocket books"? Someone's expectations were far beyond reality. You gave him that money completely out of your own will. Tossing your money at a clearly inexperienced developer and then regretting it just means you made a poor choice.

I still see no reason to start pledging again, but this is ridiculous. Tossing money at a game won't magically expand the developer's skills and ability to develop, and you can only hire so many people to develop a project like this. The problem isn't really the developer but that the project attracted way more support than it can actually use. Frankly it wouldn't be a bad thing if half the patrons got together, dropped their support, and started another project with similar ideas. Not that I think that will actually happen...

  14. There's a lot of hate here and it sounds to me like bullshit. I believe that the new updates are a great step and that while the last month was rough the fact that H-Bomb came out of it with a more professional outlook and is quite actively trying to prove that he is willing to make all of the patronage worth it is pretty significant. How many of you guys out there have had to start your own business? Or for that matter take something you used to do for fun on the side and turn THAT into a running business. The expectations here shouldn't have even been from the beginning that H-Bomb was going to crank this out in the same time period as a professional company and hand it to you in a neat package for a flat fee. You paid for something out of the ordinary with a lot of promise that no other company would touch from a guy that had yet to prove himself. So let him fucking prove himself! Yes there's a learning curve, and yes part of that learning curve is in communication and time management. If the project isn't meeting you expectations you have 2 options, drop your support, or change you expectations. Just stop bitching about.
