Update Delayed

I should basically just stop setting deadlines :(. I've had a few more unfortunate delays in that I lost some of the new content I've made due to poor back-ups and some "life stuff" has come up in the meantime. I won't set a deadline for the next update, because I realize that I miss more of these dates than I make. Instead hopefully it'll just be a pleasant surprise when it happens. Really sorry.

  3. As long as you keep posting what you are working on to keep the people who check often interested, i dont think there is a problem with that.

But you should probably keep some kind of deadline, although a less accurate one, for the psychological spur it provide you :)

Keep up the good work !

  4. Indeed. :) While many of us may feel impatient to see the new content you've been working on, I think what far outweighs that is the desire to see you sticking with it for a long time. Far too many promising games fall by the wayside due to the authors getting burned out (or, I suspect, feeling aggravated by rude and overly demanding fans), so if you need to take more time in order to keep it as an enjoyable project in your life, by all means you should take it.

Work at whatever pace you can manage and keep the lines of communication open, and I think your fans will understand. Love the game, and think it has great potential. :)

    1. The update won't be by next weekend for sure, due to aforementioned life stuff. There will definitely be an update by two weeks from now, but I won't make any promises as to what will be in it yet.

    2. Just two weeks was a little too optimistic, wasnt it? Oh well, take your time, and live your life, this is a hobby, they can live with it, but a quick update of the situation every week would put most of the negativity to rest, just my two cents

  10. I hope you "life stuff" works out well for you and ends in as positive an experience as possible under whatever circumstances it represents (I will try to say no more as it is, after all, none of my business).

While I eagerly await your next update, I fully recognize that my desire to see more material in this work is far less important than real life.

You have my well wishes (for what they're worth), and I will probably be obsessively checking in for more info.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

    1. Grats, don't let the lack of door hit you. Why do people always insist in announcing they are leaving a game? Its like saying I am not talking to you anymore, now if you were part of the dev team or a person friend yeah it would be heartbreaking but as one Anonymous poster to another, you won't be missed, its not even possible since your Anonymous.

You don't have to be a fanboy, or what ever whiner boys call it, but don't need to announce your exist. Besides you will be back here checking in a week, or month down the line. Its not like clicking a bookmark once a week during down time is hard I have 6 book marked games H and not that are in development none of them made any progress in the last two weeks, but I just click the link look at the news, and hop into the comments section when I need a pick me up to see people bicker, or join in.

    3. You know, this could be one of the more positive aspects of the announcement. People like this leave and by doing so, make life easier for those of us that are willing to stick around...

Although it would be nice if they kept their departure to themselves. There's no need to tell us about it.

For the deadline part I thought you were ok with a few missed deadlines, you gave very valid reasons or at least i thought they were valid reasons, but in the future i hope you keep some kind of deadline. As for the life-stuff, man it almost sounds like you had an untimley death in the family and for that I hope your doing ok :)

Like many other,s I've very eager to see more of this game and more updates for it, more content filled in and more little niceties added... but most of us here understand that Life has to come first.

Communication is always good though: even if it's a post up to say "Can't work on it just yet, but it's on my mind." That's completely fine... Just, talk to us when you can and let us know; far better than silence.

Hope your life stuff sorts itself out,

Maybe some info on progress that was done, even if not ready to test (Ex. finished X animations or version completion percentage).

Even professional teams of programmers rarely get anything ready for testing within a week; so don't beat yourself up about it.

  17. You should take a page out of Fenoxo's book. He doesn't set deadlines for himself he just keeps us updated on what he has done and if its gone in or not. Just saying a couple of posts a week saying what you have done and not done yet will go a long way, as apposed to this deadline crap. Besides setting deadlines for yourself will only stress you and make you make mistakes more. For example, that bug that broke the monster store. Also focus on finishing whats in the game already instead of adding new things that will probably just get put on hold like everything else already. With that said i do like the game but this silence and unfinished stuff already in it is really starting to get annoying to the point of not playing anymore. I don't care if you update the game once a week or once a month just let us know what you're doing and what we can look forward to.

    2. Really? Taking a page from Fenoxo's book is a bad thing? Huh. Then i wonder why I've only heard good things about Fenoxo and his game? Ohh yea, I remember now! Fenoxo Actually keeps his fans updated on the progress of the game. The good the bad and the ugly. He doesn't force out newer versions every week OR set deadline that he can't make just to disappoint his fans every time. Since clearly none of you people understood what I said I'll rephrase it for you(or in other words make it so you can understand) I don't care about the new versions as much i a care about progress reports. If something goes wrong i would like to know so I'm not sitting here wondering if he abandoned the game or not, or even if something is just taking a little longer to do than he thought. I'm not saying he should rush I'm just saying keep us informed.

    3. Fen has more free time and gets paid quite a bit more than our friend here. I can garuntee if Har had the security Fen has, he'd update more easily.

      Delete
    4. Fen is a shining example of how not to run a community-driven game. His antics have driven many quality writers away from his community, he's cast out everyone who doesn't suck his dick, and he's incredibly unprofessional for someone who gets paid to create a game. You should see some of the bitching he does about things he has been paid to do, as well as some of the shit he's pulled when it comes to the specifications of said paid work.
Not to mention his god awful work ethic.

Along with that, you can see a marked decline in the quality of CoC after a certain point, roughly around the time he lost a few of his best editors, again due to his asshattery (Also around the time he spent around 3-4 times the amount he was meant to on a specific piece of content, purely because it revolved around his fursona).

In short, if you're being paid to deliver shit (And he, and Har are, it's not donations, you are being commissioned to deliver specific content), you should damn well act in a professional manner. If you give yourself deadlines, stick to them, fuck your excuses. If you don't expect to be able to deliver things on time, don't promise that you will, it's that fucking simple.

      Delete
    5. The anon above speaks the truth. Har should probably look anywhere BUT Fen for inspiration and a role model. Yes, Fen keeps his fans updated on the status of his game, but he has also held releases hostage while he rants and tantrums over the (actual but deserved) criticism that he draws from a great deal of his former fanbase. Fen has also, during donation days, explictly allowed certain donations (AKA His fetishes) to be 'submitted' ahead of those whom he does not like and/or whose writer he is currently feuding with.

However, if there is one reason above all else that har should keep his distance from Fen's model, it is that Fen has committed the cardinal sin of community-driven games. he has allowed his own wants and desires and personal fetishes to be given greater weight than those of his donators. In short, fen has taken the donated money (which, while freely given as a donation also came with the expectation that the wished for content would be included) and spat back at those giving it to him, effectively restricting further donations to content Fen is known to like, thus increasing Fen's ego and perpetuating a circle of personalized fetishes that ultimately have driven CoC into a yet another circle-jerk of fetish content.

For those who don't fully know, this is basically how New content goes in CoC.

      >IS IT FURRY/SCALIE/ANTHRO? Y/N
      >IF Y: ITS IN.
      >IF N, IS IT FUTA?
      >IF Y, ITS IN
      >IF N, IS IT FEMDOM?
      >IF Y, ITS IN
      >IF N, FUCK IT IT'LL GO IN "LATER" (Read: never)

Addendum, IS IT HORSECOCK FUTA? IF SO ITS GOING IN FOR FREE AND IS TAKING FIRST PRIORITY.

Last thought. If har wants to emulate someone in the porn game dev 'industry', he should look to the dev(s) of slavemaker.

  24. Woah, another delayed deadline for almost no new content needing more than a day (and I'm giving way too much time) of work. What a surprise. What is this, the 20th time you delayed the M/M content? I mean, holy shit, there are only two males in the game and you haven't even finished that. I won't donate again for someone who doesn't do anything and always comes up with a new/overused excuse for not giving it even an hour of work or just giving pointless updates that fix nothing and just break the game.

I'm done here. You'll think I'm trolling, that I'm just bitching but you know? I'm being honest. This is laziness and nothing else. He had MONTHS to give a thing that it's less than a day's work. Even giving it 10 minutes a day would've finished this a long time ago.

    3. Since you clearly know so much about the time and effort required to code and animate, and are dissatisfied with the offerings here, why not design, code and animate your own game that more to your liking and share it free of charge with the rest of us? Obviously it should be easy for you, since, as you're well aware, it's all so very simple and doesn't really take that much work.

Main point: if your unhappy with the progress of this free-for-all game, and don't want to support it any more, then don't. Leave, and occupy yourself elsewise; that alone is statement enough. Making a rant like this -IS- trolling and bitching, no matter how you try to justify it, because it is utterly non-constructive, and also pointless: if you're going, then the act of withdrawing your support is all the statement you need make.

I'll add that you don't know the maker of the game, or what's going on in their real life. so, this time the delay was because of undisclosed life-stuff. the reason the internet mantra about that is that Life comes first, is because -We don't know- what that is, or what exactly is going on. It might be a death in the family; if that were so what right have you to call it laziness? True, it might also be that the life stuff was that some of his friends wanted to go to a party on the weekend, but even so, we don't know what it is, and for that, railing at the maker for being lazy is unjustified and unfair.

Besides which: which do you honestly feel is more likely to see the project eventually completed; people raving at, insulting and belittling the one doing the work, and complaining a them to work harder, or people encouraging him to work as he can, simply because they'd like to see it done? One burns out creators, and browns them off projects, the other does not.

Perhaps I agree with your sentiment, that repeated put-offs are just it being back-burned indefinitely in favour of other things that he finds more interesting... and I'd really rather he did more with this project... even if that were the case, I wouldn't say that: I'd support and encourage, simply because that is far more likely to see the project worked on, than any amount of whining, bitching or demanding.

Try thinking before you post next time, and do us all a favour.

    9. Indeed. Just believing everything he says and saying "oh, he just has some life stuff (again), just give him time" will not solve anything. He had a lot of people that wanted to help him and he didn't even give an answer. The first deadline was set at 6/23 and that was for M/M content only (that's almost 3 months for 2 animations). Do you really believe he is trying to complete the schedule and satisfy the donors when the only thing he does is extend deadlines (and now not have any)? Please, open your eyes and put yourself in that situation. Bitching about it will not help, but blindly believing and protecting will not help either.

      Cheers.

    10. I never said there was anything wrong with expressing dissatisfaction, not at all.

What I'm saying, however, is that there's a very important difference between calmly saying that one finds the rate of progress degradation worrisome, and bitching, whinging, or demanding in the voice of rampant self-entitlement.

Incidentally, the M/M animations, not two, it's actually four, which is about as much as a full species animation set in itself... and a reason was supplied for why that, in particular was pushed back the first time. If you accept that, then you cannot add that time onto the 'how long we've been waiting' clock.

I'm saying that yes, he should ignore and pay no heed to the people who bitch, whine and demand, who insult and are rude and self-entitled. They should most definitely be utterly ignored. That category does not contain those who voice genuine and calm concern, however, nor those who understand the difference between constructive critique and being an insulting and derogatory arse. The latter, equally, those who do know the difference, should be listened to; not necessarily heeded or agreed with, but at the least heard.

As I said before, though, I'm relatively new come to this game, and what I can see is that this particular blog has seen more communication posts from the author in the past month or two, than ever before, so it amuses me to see people spending this time complaining about a lack thereof.

I do think that time and energy should first be devoted to finishing up and filling in and neatening the content that IS present, before adding more, personally; all the missing animations filled in and evened up, 'finishing' animation added for each creature harvest, not just the males; finishing animations for to-breeder breeding, including both and 'in' and 'out' relative to successful pregnancy, as with normal breeding, a fix on the refresh for portraits and trait panels to more accurately reflect changes that occur between one breeding and the next without having to close the window or deselect your target, fixing of the display issues with trait acquisition via intellect, and the transference of levelled up traits...

I personally feel that this sort of polishing should be dealt with before new content is added, and yes, it irks me to see the proposed plans being for one new thing after another, while bits and pieces of existing content remain unfinished... however, it's not -my- game, and it's free to play (a donation is exactly that; money given freely and voluntarily with no expectation of implied return or owing... if there is expectation of implied owing, then it's not a donation any more), so more than anything else, I'm going to continue to encourage, and support, rather than complain, because, wile I don't know about the rest of you, and can't speak for anyone but myself.. I, at least, -WANT- to see this game get worked on and continued... and complaining and bitching and acting in a self-entitled demanding manner, is most definitely NOT going to help that happen.

    11. 3 Month for 4 Animations is FAR too much let me tell you that i'm a professional programmer and an amateur Pixel Artist and 3 month for 4 animations is way too much. Remember that some people payed money and are still waiting for their M/M Animations... I'm telling you maybe its not the first time you've seen a situation like that but its quite common in the gaming industry everyone is going to quit one by one if he doesn't start to get serious... I'll echo some other sentiments here and just say, please try to keep us up to date on what you are able to work on from time to time. Best of luck sorting things out.

Also, if you do decide to try and make deadlines for publishing updates, perhaps just start doubling or tripling the time you give yourself in each deadline. If you suspect you can push something out in 2 weeks, tell everyone to expect it in 4 weeks. Better to occasionally release earlier than your own deadlines than to miss them and be late. Erring on the side of caution as it were.

How about you just give the poor suckers who donated to you their money back and move on? It's obvious you lack the drive or talent to actually finish this, so why drag it out for another couple months before the inevitable, "Hey everyone, I (insert excuse here) and don't have time to work on this anymore. 4. Some people just can not understand there is a difference between telling the truth and being an ass.

The truth is if people don't like waiting through personal problems, skip the game. No one gives a care if you play or not. It is a free game, it even being put out for us to play is solely up to the creator. They can let us play, they can change it how they want, it is their game. Even the donators can not really complain, they donated to the game not invested in the game. When you donate you have no usually have no say in what happens after the money has left your hand, at least this creator gave options on letting donation dictate future release features. Much more then they had to do.

  28. I remember when my computer was infested by viruses. Because no one ever gets them do they? And I had AVG paid for and everything.
One day every thing fine. The next I think the registry was wiped out. Because to open the internet I had to open word, which then asked me what program to use, because Word didn't have a valid something. So used explorer to open word, which then gave me about five seconds to open a new tab, otherwise the whole thing would close.
I used that computer for 6 months.
Lost all the data because I couldn't open folders or the start menu, just click the almost useless desktop icons.

Basically computers are complicated and stuff happens. My first computer was ravaged by rats who ate through the stuff inside.

  32. To the dipshits insulting him.

Life happens. Many of us have a hard life. Donations are DONATIONS. This means you're giving your money away to help someone in need, which from what I've seen, he needs it. You are not BUYING the game, you are donating so he can keep it running and keep working on it.

If you have such a hard time understanding how hard it is to program FROM SCRATCH your own flash game, then you try it. You make a game like this and ask for donations. And if you can keep deadlines, good on you. But this fellow has brought something unique to the table and I am patient enough to see what comes from it.

I just hope all of you learn some patience. 'Delay' does not mean never. He's already added Neoteny and some more Holstaurus animations, which were promised long ago, but he ADDED THEM. Sheesh... Some people need to respect that solo development is fucking hard. :\

  40. Alright before I say anything, I have never complained about missed updates or unresolved deadlines.
But, I don't like that you aren't giving at least rough estimates on dates. Like, "You can expect an update within the next week."
I personally was fine with you missing deadlines. Shit happens, I get it. But it at least gave me a time to expect something. If nothing happened, whatever, I had something to look forward to. Minor update? Great! Fine tuning is good for games that are in development.
But random updates? I don't really like suprises.
Long story short; I am fine with doing away with set deadline dates, but at least give us a rough estimate. It makes it easier on you and on us.

Some people don't understand that things are easier said than done, since they've never actually done anything. Hope the donations are getting close to being worth the time you've spent, and get better all the time.

Cheers on abandoning the deadline nonsense. Keep your own deadlines (but, to yourself), and give a heads-up when a nice update is ready. Sure faster will be great, but getting them done without wasting time on drama is WAY better. I'd vote for a bi-weekly chit-chat post, as well. Thanks again for your efforts, and I hope life is treating you well. Cheers!

Sorry, not bi-weekly. I meant twice a week... or more if you can find the time. I do think it'd help keep interest for the more loyal of your works followers.
Also, had meant to say to give a heads up "a few days prior to release. After basic testing."

    1. You had bi-weekly right, it can mean twice a week or once every two weeks, thank you screwed up English language.

I agree with your idea, give us a update on what is being worked on, and right before the next version is ready let us know it is being released in a week, that gives time to tweak bugs, but a releasable version is on hand. Though I do not see a need for more then once a week updates posts.

      Delete
    2. I agree with this. Deadlines make no sense if you can't predict when/how much you're able to work on the project, but it would be nice to have some sort of heads up about what's already done, rather than what you're planning on doing. "m/m is about 60% complete" "hit a snag with ___, going to take longer than I thought" etc.

Probably the most frustrating thing about all the missed deadlines was the complete silence beforehand. I think people would be more understanding if you'd said you were having trouble before the deadline instead of complete radio silence between the post promising a deadline and the post apologizing for having missed it. Shit comes up, it happens, but letting people know you won't be able to keep a promise is a basic courtesy.

Serrioulsy he said personal stuff is in the way. I know you guys to post that shit on your facebook wall but we are strangers brought here by I need to masterbate to a game... I wouldn't really want to share my personal stuff either.

All you really have to do is take 1 min evry 3 days to click on the bookmark, then click you want to see an adult blog, see no update, and go to your stand by fap bookmarks. That is all it takes, something like oh no update, I am gonna fap to something else, that is all you got tell yourself. You don't have to entrinch youreslef in, and make demmands like he/she owes you anything. You owe the creator, not the other way around, you didn't buy the game, or album, and if you donated you already got more out of it then the last time you donated to salvation army, which is a real scam 20 cents of every dollar helps people.

I know your use to celeberties and twitter, but come the hell on, its free game that is made in SPARE time, so when they say real life is hitting them hard, don't press them it makes it worse. I mean when is the last time you were pist or depressed and a stranger went up to you and demmand shit and it didn't piss you off? Just accept you have no control, thisn't EA or some other company that has to worry about its image, if you cry dead game or I want more of your personal info they don't have to care, he/she is a private citizen and your forntanate enough to get to see his work for free, if you donated it was towards the cause, it doesn't entitle you shit, there was no contract saying if you pay 5 bucks you own the game, it was a donation go learn what that means people.

  62. if your starting to get discouraged just look at how many people are here waiting for your update. this game has a lot of potential. also find a few people who are down to earth to help you and you'll find its not nearly as demanding and stressful. you have people interested in this because your work is good but looking at the potential size of the project rather than simply the next thing can freak you out, speaking from experience. as to the deadlines i think your killing yourself and your motivation by promising so much. the last update you promised 6 or so things, try just saying one thing a week and let them get all excited if there ends up being more than that! best of luck mate!

Honestly I think saying nothing is feeding the trolls less then saying: "I spent 20 minutes today and got nothing accomplished, stay tuned for next weeks update where I will do 30 minutes because my real life sucks and you bitches demand one sentence updates." I will take real life is happening no time tables for updates, and 2 weeks of silence why they put real life first, you know thing you do between internet faps. The thing that is where you get money, pay bills, see loved ones, make new love ones etc, that comes first in my book.

But no matter how frustrating it may be, repeated posts of the same thing, no matter what it is, aren't going to help, and beyond the first, the only impact they -CAN- have at all, is negative. I can understand wanting to see an update, definitely, but repeat posts of negative comments are far more likely to make your statement a reality, than they are to bring about renewed motivation or updates. If you really do want to see the game updated, then stop doing that... it's only doing harm.

  66. Like I've seen in a comment before, Harista, we'd like small comments about your progress. I realize real life stuff is a problem, but people have put money into this game, just to see very small progress. On the upside, this is the best of this type of game I've ever seen (and it isn't even finished yet!), which is why so many people are anxious to see it updated. Hell, a lot of us would be happy if you just told us that you didn't want to pursue this project anymore, it's just the disappointment of checking back for the last 18 days after getting an "Update Delayed" message getting to people.

Don't be discouraged by people saying negative comments, they will only come true if you allow them to. And if you are stuck on something game-wise, I'm sure there are many people (on lok forums, over the internet, even people that are commenting) that can and will help you. I'm not saying you have to finish a game you don't want to, just saying that you should complete your beautiful work of art, and deliver it to the longing masses. If you don't want to, tell us.

Honestly, right now, to some it probably seems to some as if you've either abandoned the game, are almost completely not working on it, or you simply don't care that much about it but you feel as if you are being pressured into finishing it. I don't think (or don't want to think) that any of that is true, but if it is then just say so. People have a tendency to give up on these kinds of games, and it would just be awesome if you didn't.

Hes asking 'donations' to add stuff in the game, so, for me, is not a donation at all, and people who payed to see stuff in the game, have all the right to get angry, because they payed to see that stuff implemented. Other thing is if he ask for donations to help him with his life and to more or less compensate his work time, but hes asking money to add features in the game, a game that people not are seeing advance for a long time, maybe he focused the donations in a wrong way, at least if he wanted them to be 'real donations'.
Anyways, yes, patience, not all the times the things come out good in your life, and real life is more important than a porn game.
